I finally got my frost palm and here are some of the first candles i've poured. This one is peaks ocean...

Actually I used just plain old white poster board. Here this might give you a better idea, it'd kind of a rinky dink setup but hey, whatever works :smiley2: . The lamps I just got from around the house and the container is one of those rubbermaid clear storage tubs minus the lid. I want to try using some brighter lights or natural type lighting instead of the fluorescent bulbs i've been using. I think alot of it is camera position, lighting position, not using a flash, camera type, camera settings, etc... I always try to go for ultimate clarity in the picture and the best lighting that I can get and if it needs tweaking I used photoshop elements.

I have been really impressed with the hot throw in the palm wax so far. I have been testing startburst palm pillars, glass glow container palm, regular 1343 paraffin pillars and comfort blend paraffin. The palm wax has been just as strong if not stronger in some situations than the paraffin. For my palm containers I have been using the 9oz hex jars and have been able to successfully smell up all of the downstairs in our 2100sqft house with the scent wafting up the stairs as I come down. I'm going to try testing some 16oz apoth containers next and those should be stronger smelling with a wider melt pool. I guess I'll find out!

I used RRD 47's on all three as a starting point because that is what was working on most of the round palm pillars I had been making. The two purple pillars are doing ok but they are extremely close to the edge in some spots and I see that for safety's sake I'm probably going to have to wick down a size on these. The white pillar is definitely going to have to be wicked down 1 or 2 sizes. It was the only one to have a blowout. Most likely because I didn't use any coloring in it and it burned more easily. I remelted it down and added some blue coloring to it and used the same size wick and have been testing the new pillar. It seems to be ok so far as well so it must have just been the color issue.

Thank you for all the replies! I got the molds from Candlewic, they are seamless aluminum molds. I didn't even have to use any mold release and the pillars just slid right out. Now to get the wicking right!

Here are three 3" octagon palm pillars that I made with starburst palm. The purple ones are scented lavendar and the white one is scented cotton blossom. They are wicked with RRD 47's which is what has been working for me most of the time with the 3" round palm pillars. I figured it was a good place to start :rolleyes2 .

I bought some! I love the glass glow wax and have been trying to be patient waiting for more to come in at CS. I guess i'll try the frost palm in the meantime. Now to wait patiently for my order...

Hello! I've have been lurking around the CT message board since I started making candles in February and figured it's probably about time I came out of hiding and said hello to everyone. I've found so much information and this board has been so helpful to me as a beginning chandler that I just wanted to thank everybody and say... I will no longer be a lurker!

I'm a major newbie so this is just a guess... Some Stearic is derived from Palm Wax isn't it? On some websites I've seen them sell 100% Palm Wax that they market as Vegetable Stearic (Specifically GenWax). Maybe she's mixing the paraffin with large amounts of Vegetable Stearic which would cause some amount of crystallization. I tried mixing a ratio of about 30% Palm to 70% soy once just for the fun of it and it had tiny little crystals running through the whole candle.
