  1. 10 pillars is not a huge amount, and they are probably not expecting a discount, but I think adding a little pillar for the bride would be a nice touch.
  2. If the products, price, shipping, customer service are very good, AND they give you a coupon for the $6 off your next purchase, I can't see what there is to complain about. In a perfect world maybe, but after reading some of the horror stories about suppliers here and on some of the other boards, I'd think that this company would definitely be a keeper. I know I've read about people being overcharged $30+ and not getting it back.
  3. Yuck, you definitely don't want anything with stairs anyway. Many people will refuse to go up or down a flight.
  4. I have horrible hands, both really dry and beginning to be arthritic, and the thought of rubbing in a warm moisturizing lotion sounds really good. HOWEVER: I don't think they should be sold as "candles", and I think that is where most of the problem lies. A "candle" is something that is lit for ambience, scent, light, whatever: a lotion "candle" should actually be a B&B product, with skin safe scents, oils etc. Marketing it as a "candle" with a wick is, I think, asking for trouble. They are probably soy wax mixed with oils, and are probably more flammable than normal candles. Just in case I ever have any spare time, I would like to play around with the idea for my own use. Pure soy, mixed with some moisturizing oils, maybe a warming EO, made as a tart that I could melt and dip my fingers into. Sounds good to me. But a container candle with a wick that would likely be left burning for hours on end? Never.
  5. I'm actually one of the weird people who loves candles for the flickering candlelight. I don't buy scented, and while I LOVE colour in my fabric, yarn, etc., I couldn't care less about coloured candles (although I did break down once and buy some).
  6. Leases are not only good for the landlord, they are also good for the tenant. A month to month lease means he can kick you out if he finds a better tenant.
  7. I agree, the chenille is not a good idea, and probably wouldn't hold up well. Since you only crochet, get some of the dishcloth cotton, crochet a tube wide enough to hold your soap +a bit, add an extra 1.5" in length to allow for the drawstring, and you're all set. Don't forget to sew up the bottom. You could likely make one in no time. If it doesn't work out, open it up and try again.
  8. [The USPS tracking service it's amazing, it even tells me when the box is at italian customs and when it leaves. Wow!!! Canada post could learn from them. Their tracking system told me my package was still in Edmonton (not the usual way to go from ON to NS) when it was actually in my town.
  9. I just make them for myself, EO and water, and I give the bottle a shake each time I use it.
  10. I sell beads in my shop, and I sell a lot of 2 and 3 mm "silver" beads: just silver coloured. I also prefer using sterling, but it does turn, and the plated can turn as well. So try out the cheapies, they might be what you're looking for.
  11. They have bad reviews. There's been a thread both here and on the dish about them.
  12. Cowgirl, Cheer up. Some of the rest of us occasionally make changes too.
  13. www.mannlakeltd.com has both the silicone(?) and the metal molds.
  14. I use epsom salt (3 lbs), sea salt (2 lbs), cocoa butter (1/2 cup) and eo (I think 3 tbsp). Simple & fast.
  15. I assume you've got Norma Coney's book.My first few batches worked "well": they melted etc, but then shrank to almost nothing once they dried. Later batches for some reason didn't work: they turned into lumpy messes. In theory, it sounds like a wonderful idea: make a large batch of soap, remelt and scent a portion of it. However, all my soaps were ugly.
  16. They look like a little shot-type glass that I've seen at our local dollar store.
  17. If you run another show on commission, do a round of the tables 3/4 of the way through the day, collect what you're owed thus far, and then do a final round at the end. This way if they run, you at least have something. Hope you've kept track of who ran last year, and not allow them back in.
  18. I just googled it, and I agree with the others. You would get very limited use out of it. A pour pot and another pot to make a double boiler would be much more useful, and much cheaper.
  19. This is a bad time of year for smaller stores, with people still reeling from the excesses of Christmas. I call it "the scary season": sales are down, and we have higher expenses due to oil, etc. We have a fairly diversified shop, though, so not all aour eggs are in one basket.
  20. No camera, but here goes: Looks like a grate, usually 7 or so holes to an inch. I'd say you'd either cut a square of this stuff to put over your container, mark the central hole with a marker, centre it over your container and pull the wick through the marked hole. Then hold the wick taut with a clothespin. OR... just cut a strip of the awful stuff, maybe an inch wide, and continue as above. People make Barbie furniture out of it, not my thing at all, but I think it's a great idea, just in case I am not driven absolutely mad by my votives and eventually get to conainers.
  21. It's stiff, and unless the mold is 10" wide, it should hold up. What a good idea! I loathe plastic canvas, but I can finally see a use for it.
  22. As long as that's the only ingredient.
  23. Never made one, but plan to try some day. You have an inner container, with no bottom, this would hold the objects in place. Once the wax is poured and the shell has hardened a bit, the inner container is pulled out and the excess wax poured out, leaving you with a shell of wax. I could be wrong, but I think this is one of the ways it's done. Google them, there are several sets of instructions on the net.
  24. There should be no problem mixing batches to get the colour you want. Beeswax is not a manufactured product, so variations will happen. If you are wicking candles, you might want to check from batch to batch. You might also want to get some white beeswax and use it to mix with the gold to get the colout you want.
