  1. I use chips too and when I need to get red, I use 1/4 of the chip per lb. of wax. So, cut the chip in half, then cut it again and try that. HTH
  2. What type of color are you using...dye chips, liquid dye?
  3. I've used both...I currently use labels and prefer them. Part of it is the convenience of just sticking on a label as opposed to having to fold, punch a hole, then tie on a hang tag. Especially if you have a lot to do. I also print my own and it works well. It took a little time to get them tweeked, but once I got it they were perfect.
  4. Think about it this way... Making some money or getting drunk!! LOL You could make SO much money over those 3 days. Think about all the people who will be there spending the money that got as Christmas gifts and end of year bonuses!!
  5. I think craftlister is an awesome site to use. I've been using it again since the crash and things are getting back to normal at a pretty good rate. I've found TONS of shows to attend and sell at in my area. And I get most of the inquiries about shows I promote from there. Make sure you post info or ratings so you can get some free subsription time. Try looking in the Pennysaver if your area has one, or even local county or town/city papers. Most of the time I see postings in those to get customers to come, but a lot of times there are listings in them because the people are looking for more vendors. You may also check places like Craigslist.org or even check out some of the calendar sections on websites like the local radios stations, there are listings there as well. Of course check with the schools, especially big high schools. The schools usually have events in the fall/winter and spring. HTH
  6. Have you tried doing a search to see if other jar suppliers carry the top you need?
  7. Loretta, I saw in your profile that you haven't made candles in a long time...I would first start there, making sure your products are ready to be sold. Make sure you've registered your business w/ your state, etc. Then venture into fundraisers and home parties.
  8. Also check AC Moore, they have a sale going on for their baskets, they are 2/&7 through 12/24.
  9. I hadn't thought of the cellophane bag. I might try a couple of things and see which looks best. Thanks for the help. If anyone else has suggestion, please keep em coming!
  10. I'm thinking of selling them in singles and/or packages of 3. I've used them myself before I started making candles. I've had a huge request for them and tart warmers. I have a potter is going to make some warmers for me. I'm thinking I may end up shrink wrapping, but I just wanted to get some other ideas.
  11. In a few months I'm going to start offering these floaters, http://pourette.com/product.asp?Product_Id=27566&d_Id=6941&l1=6936&l2=6941, does anyone have any suggestions on how to package them? Shrink wrapping is the only thing I can think of.
  12. Just wanted to give you all an update on my 2 day show...I did about $650 for both days. Had great customers, a few who came yesterday came back today and got more from me. I'll definitely be doing the show again next year. The folks across from me who had soap, I asked why they didn't have the ingredients listed, etc. And I was told that they had too much soap and didn't have that kind of time to label anything. They said they used to, put it got too time consuming!! LOL Interesting!!!
  13. I just finished my first 2 days show and I'm happy. We were able to start setting up last night and things were cool when I got there this morning. Everything was still in it's place and accounted for. Sales were ok, did about $300 today, the fee was only $22.50 (I'm sharing a 10x10 w/ my friend who works at the place the show is being held so we got a discount). Tomorrow is when more people come, so sales should be very good. My friend and I are up on a stage w/ 3 other vendors, one of which sells soap, bath salts and body butter. None of the products had labels, so no labels, no ingredients listed. They were letting everyone just dig into the body butter, so all those germs were flying around. It made me cringe every time I saw somebody walk away w/ a bag. I want to ask them so bad why they don't have ingredients listed, but I'm not sure I'm ready to hear the off the wall reason why!! I ask tomorrow and let ya'll know!
  14. You have to join to be able to view everything. Also, since the crash some of the show info may still be missing. It just happened about 2 weeks ago. Vendors and promoters are starting to add their info back. It's definitely worth joining. I promote shows as well as participate as a vendor, Craftlister has worked very well for me.
  15. There was a sign posted at the hotel which can be seen by GOBS of people, they have to pass by it to get to the mall which is across the street. I think part of the issue was that the Redskins happened to be playing that day, although it wasn't a home game, we have diehard Skins fans in this area (men and women) who won't step away from the tv when they're on. But oh well, I did what I could. This was the 2nd year for the show, and attendance was definitely better than the 1st year, but I also made more the first year. Next year should be better, much nicer place, a nicer/better area, radio & tv advertising AND I can put signs out. So, I'm sure we'll get tons of people. Thanks for all your feedback!!
  16. I hosted a show on last Sunday, 65 vendors, nice hotel location right off of a main highway. I provided breakfast to the vendors (coffee, juice, water, pastries), I also gave each one a little gift on their table. I advertised in our big paper (print and online), 10 smaller local papers (print and online) and about 15 online sites that have calender sections. I also sent invites to past show participants, past attendees, and everyone I know. Signs were posted in local businesses near the show and all participants got flyers/postcards to give to their customers, etc. I also had several radio announcements. I was not able to post signs on the road, after doing it for my last show and having them removed in a day, I found out it was illegal in that county to post signs on public property. But, I did post signs at the entrance to the hotel. I also asked all vendors to be sure to invite theur friends/family/customers. And to post the info at their churches, kids schools, etc. Traffic was much slower than I'd expected, we probably had about 100 people all day. I had 3 vendors who were absolutely nasty. They all wanted to know why it was so slow, why didn't I post signs on main roads, why this, why that and one even cursed me out. They were all loud and obnoxious...One even started going around asking others if they wanted to leave with her, since I hadn't done my job. I ended up asking all of them to leave. Do you all blame the promoter if attendance is low?
  17. Thanks everyone... There will be security and I do plan to take the cash home.
  18. For those of you who do 2 days shows...Have you ever had any "issues" with leaving your stuff overnight?
  19. It's a good idea to have samples in case you run out of a certain scent...It happened to me on Sunday, thank goodness I had the samples because the person placed a $140 order for the fragrance I'd sold out of.
  20. Sorry, I only have the directions for the 4 step...if anyone needs those directions, let me know!!
  21. Thanks!! I have lots made already that I can put in there. I'm just waiting for my shelves which should be here today!!! I'll be mailing out the invites next week for the "Grand Opening Weekend Sale".
