  1. I really tried to get all of my "ducks in a row" before I started on this project. I got all my supplies and directions together, crossed my fingers, and began. By the end of the project the ducks were wildly flying around the kitchen like raving lunatics. Somehow, it managed to turn out okay. Whew As you can see, it doesn't have a wick yet. One nerve-wracking thing at a time. It's been 2 days since I completed it. I think I've calmed down enough to try it again. This time the ducks will be chain-ganged and tranquilized!
  2. Does anyone know where I can purchase these other than Candles and Supplies? They have that $10 minimum shipping and this is all I'm really needing. Has anyone come up with their own design...maybe something that can be made at home? TIA
  3. I love the look of the 2 mixed together. Just beautiful.
  4. I use gb444. I purchased a 10lb bag back in Nov just to try it out. It behaved beautifully. I even posted pictures to show how creamy and smooth the tops were. No additives, poured @ 130*. Couldn't ask for anything better. That was then.... I finished my 10lbs and ordered a larger amount (from a different supplier). I knew it was different as soon as I openned the box. Ugh! Lumpy, shiney tops. Not creamy looking but very shiney. All of my wicking is off by 1 to 2 sizes. I've poured at 6 different temps and still no improvement. It's like a whole different wax. Disheartening to say the least. Don't know where to go from here.
  5. They really do look like stained glass. They're all gorgeous. Great job!
  6. I sent in my order late last night (1/14). By 11:44pm I received email confirmation. At 8:31a this morning I received notice that it had shipped. All is well.
  7. The Ultra Core have become my favorite wick. I'm glad to see others are trying them. I think you will be pleased. I'm going to try their X-Trim on pillars. Just waiting for CS to get in their Tortoise Shell Palm.
  8. JennB...if you don't mind me asking, where do you get your larger plastic tealights. I received the one on the left as part of a gift set. It's a tick under 1" tall. The second one is the standard size and only size I've been able to find. TIA
  9. Kat...I'm so glad you brought this post up. I just ordered my first pillar mold last night. Since I wasn't sure about wicking, I ordered both the wick pin and Pillar wick centering tool. I understood the wick pin 'cause I've used those in votives but wasn't sure about the one with the bent handle and cross bars. It was the indent on the bottom of the mold that I wasn't sure of. I loved geekrunner's idea of using the hanger. I could have saved myself some money. lol I remember reading that someone was using a knitting needle in their drill press. If I don't have luck with the pins, I guess I'll be dusting off the drill press. Lots of good ideas in this old thread. Donita...if you're reading this, I had to take off my glasses and clean them when I read your post. I just wasn't seeing the picture you referred to. LOL I thought only I did things like that. Loved your idea of the lamp fitting.
  10. Sorry the ECO 8 didn't work out for you. No luck on the CD 10 either? I had always been determined to single wick my 3" and 3 1/4" tumblers but like you said, I didn't like the huge flames. I finally gave in to double wicking and now I'm glad I did. I don't worry about it as much, especially if I'm testing for HT and the candle is in another room. I guess it's either that or stick with smaller diameter tins and jars.
  11. My2Scents...How did the ECO 8 work out? Did it have less sooting than the ECO 10? Gdawg...Good news and strange news. lol The straight sided container was overwicked and it mushroomed. Since it wasn't tabbed I thought I would just let it harden and then switch out sizes. A couple of hours later the mushroom that seemed so large was now insignificant. Okay...probably dropped into the wax and I'll see it on the bottom later. After a few 3 hr. burns and 1 marathon 5-6 hr. I realized the wick was going to fall over so I needed to take the picture before it did. Needless to say, I got to watching the election coverage and forgot about it. Hmmm. Not be able to leave anything alone I put it on the candle warmer to melt and lo and behold, the mushroom wasn't in the bottom of the jar. Where did it go? Now even I can't believe what I did next. I fished out that little 1 inch wick and tabbed it. Yup..I did. Bless it's little heart, it stood up to the handling just fine. I just sat it in the bottom of the jar and let it harden again. lol I finished up the burn tonight. Maybe the mushroom fairy came and took it away. :tiptoe: The jar with the taper has me puzzled. I knew it was slightly discolored to begin with. It's an old jar that started it's life with gel candles in it. I knew you were concerned with sooting so after I took the pictures I noticed the discoloration even more. Was it soot? I didn't think so. I took one of those micro-fiber cloths and ran it around the edges quite a few times. No soot came off but it does look like a funky color. Is it a full moon? So all an' all I think it was a pretty good test. Little mushrooming and what there was mysteriously disappeared and no soot. Whew...sorry this was so long and drawn out. It's been one of those days.
  12. Is that soycandle.com ? I was going to place an order with them tonight...hmmm. Maybe I should wait.
  13. Oooo....they're both beautiful. But I see what you mean with the green one being covered. Nice job!
  14. Dawn...I hope I wasn't too confusing in my last post. The first picture, which is my favorite jar, is straight sided 2.75" dia. I'm testing gb444 and EL Millinium. Wicking seems pretty close to the same for both soys.
  15. Gdawg...I'm so glad you told me the difference in those two jars. I got my jar(s) as part of a gift pkg of candles many years ago. I've been looking for the same jar but wasn't sure which of the ones on the genwax site was closer. I wish they had the Monticiano in a 7oz size. Well...they do, but not the same dimensions. Mine is 2.75" across. The perfect size IMHO. I have one that tapers (one p or 2?) from 2 and 7/8 down to 2 and 1/4. You can see the difference in the picture. I'll lite that one tonight and check for sooting. I really don't think it will. I have it under wicked because of the taper. We'll see how it goes and I'll let you know. http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh318/ArleneB_01/candles/frostedjars.jpg My2Scents...I know that you're wanting to single wick but if all else fails...this jar (below) is 3.25" wide. I'm using 2 Ultra Core 2.000's and it's doing a wonderful job. Just a thought. http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh318/ArleneB_01/candles/325diaUltraCore20.jpg http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh318/ArleneB_01/candles/325diaUltraCore2000.jpg
  16. I use the Ultra Core. They are as easy to use as a zinc wick but they do burn hotter so you would have to adjust your sizes. Give them a try. I think you will be pleased.
  17. I've been testing the Premiers and Fil-Tec Ulta Core for the past couple of months. If I can get these pictures posted, you'll see the Ulta Core doesn't mushroom. This is the 2nd 3 hr burn after it hardened. I know the last thing you need is to pay more shipping costs for yet another type of wick but...I think these are worth a try. I got the sample pack directly from Fil-Tec.com I'll be purchasing the sizes I need from Early American Candle Supplies. HTH http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh318/ArleneB_01/candles/UltraTec2402275india.jpg http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh318/ArleneB_01/candles/UltraTec2402275india2.jpg
  18. I really like the look of it. With the buy one get one free sale it's only $11 per candle with flat rate shipping of $6. I'm tempted to order just to see what it's like and how it burns. Couldn't we refill it after it's done burning? 7pawz...let us know how it burns please.
  19. I use the Ulta Core and love them. They don't bend and won't shift even if you want them too. I wicked a candle just a little off center. I tried coaxing the wick over a bit. It wasn't having any of that...lol So just make sure the wick is where you want it from the get go.
  20. I love the Forget Me Not. Just poured one yestereday to get away from all the Bakery and Christmas scents I've been smelling. It's a strong thrower.
  21. Kim...the CBA and CB135 are different waxes. Did the post say they double wicked the 135? I tried the CBA many, many years ago. It was great for casting light but I never could get any scent out of it. Now having said that, years ago I didn't know what I know now about using quality FO's. Keep us posted as to how they burn and smell. I love the color!
  22. Looking good. Were you happy with the way it burned? I'm going to be ordering more of the 444 (love that stuff) from CS and it's so tempting to give the gg a try.
