  1. I paint my pinecones with watered down elmers glue, sometimes I even dip the pincecones in the glue then sprinkle them with real cinnamon and then put a few squirts of cinnamon fragrance oil in them, right at the edge of the "leaf" near the core of the pinecone. Then bake them at 250 for about 8 minutes or until the cinnamon looks sort of baked on. I've done this with pumpkin and autumn spice as well.
  2. Befoe I get slammed, I want to begin my question by stating that I KNOW I NEED TO TEST...when using different wax, wicks, fo, etc. Now for my question. After reading post after post and getting confused I hope someone can lead me in a definate direction. For about 5 yrs. I've only ever used soy wax from Bluegrass. I am down to my last 10 lbs and was figuring that I'd start phasing out of the candle end of my business but as luck would have it, I have someone who would like me to supply them with lots of candles. Now, which wax would be most comparible to the bluegrass soy (no cottonseed). I don't have much time to be testing a bunch of different ones. From what I've been reading it looks like I need to try GB 415. I was going to place an order at KY and saw that they have 3 different soy waxes. UGH, the confusing madness.
  3. couldn't get the link to post for you but if you go to bittercreek north website and go into the feb. 2008 newsletter you'll see it on the right hand side of the page under hints/tips.
  4. I am in the midst of possibly supplying a coffee shop with some of my things and in trying to make this a go I've been requested to carry some if not all the following fragrances and after searching my favorite FO places I'm going nuts trying to see where I can get the most requested to save on ordering from numerous places and also trying to compare reviews. UGH, here's the list that I don't have on hand: I saw these on NG and would like opinions if you've used these in soy: Snickerdoodle Latte Cafe Caramel Fresh Brewed Coffee (old or new) French Vanilla Coffee (used to carry vanilla coffee from CC closeout) these I'm not sure where is best Hot cocoa caramel cinnamon latte (ICS) reviews? Irish Mocha, Bailey's Irish Cream, etc. Amaretto Candied Chestnuts I also thought I saw someone carried a pumpkin spice latte but can't remember if this is an actual oil or if I saw that someone mixed this on their own. Any other suggestions would be very welcome as well.
  5. I started out using the plain soy from bluegrass years ago and really had good results and am down to my last 6 lbs. I lost my link for who took over the wax supply for them. I really don't want to have to start testing again with a different brand.
  6. Can't answer your question on the homegrown blend from at wix end but I do order my votive/pillar soy from at wix end and it has the feathery look like palm wax so I'm not sure if that's what it is or not. I've never really thought about what kind/brand of wax it really is. I just pour it and like the results I get so I go with it. I never purchased a pillar soy from anyplace else so I guess I wouldn't be aware if there was a difference.
  7. all great advice. I'm off tomorrow so I'm gonna sit and try to come up with a plan to present her with. I first have to see how many of the coffee cup warmers I have on hand so I can see if I even have enough to get her started with.
  8. Those look great! When I made layerd votives I used to mark a wooden stirrer type stick with a marker at whatever level and then hold it in the votive cup as I was pouring once I reached the marked spot on the stick I pulled it out. I didn't poke the stick down into the wax of the previous layer just held it on top.
  9. After struggling through craft shows and orders here and there and spending money on etsy and artfire...I finally am getting somewhere. I had a lady in Canada order 60 air fresheners for fundraisers and I just got an email from a lady who wants to buy my coffee mug warmers with coffee bean shaped melts gift sets to resale on her website. This will be the first big (hopefully big) deal for me and I'm not sure where to begin with it. So far this is what I thought I needed to ask her. *How many does she want to start with *Does she want my label on the cello package holding the bean melts *Does she want to sell the bean melts separate for re-fill orders *I sell the gift packs for $8.00 but with a wholesale order Is it expected to give a cheaper price, if so should I set a minimum before offering the discount. I sort of figure if I'm pouring a bunch of the same fragrance it's not as much work. **anything else? I am also working on scented mug mats and bought fabric with a coffee cup theme so I'm hoping when I get some done that she may want to offer these as well. This could actually be the break I've been looking for If I handle it right.
  10. I really am not SuperWoman and I can't do all the things I'd like to do and I definately don't need 1/4 of the craft crap that I have stocked up that I thought someday I'd need for all the projects that I'd do.
  11. Is this what you are talking about? www.edgerydoo.com
  12. Looks like I'm gonna miss the gathering again this year. We will be on vacation. From the looks of the website everyone is going to have a BLAST! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for next year. With any luck, we'll be in the new house and maybe I'll host a good ol' fashioned bonfire and corn roast! I'll be anxiously waiting the details.
  13. Chiptooth, I think the L7580 is discontinued. What is that 71.99 print head thingy that goes with it? But I did look at the L7590. Very nice! Didn't know how to quote..anyway. I'm not sure what the $71.99 print head thingy is. I haven't had to purchase anything extra for mine.
  14. Great...thanks. Another pattern that I must add to my to do list! Thinkn' this will be great for my daughter to take her junk to the swimming pool this summer
  15. I've never had problems with different paper thicknesses. Also I don't really go through ink quickly. I don't have to go through a scan program. Just hit scan and okay.
  16. That is really cute. I have enough fabric to open my own store. I really need to get my sewing machine going again. This looks like something my nieces would like. Is a pattern available?
  17. I have the HP Officejet Pro L7580 and love it. It supposedly prints as fast as Laser and quality is great. I do a lot of printing and it seems like the individual cartridges last forever. I always turn my old cartridges in at Staples so I get rebate checks and use them for more cartridges. I haven't used the card reader function yet but have printed photos.
  18. The picture shows up pinker than what it really is. To me it looks a bit washed out so I'm going to put a splash more color in my beads and hope they dry FAST. by
  19. Hi all...thought I'd for sure I'd attend this year since I'm only about 45 minutes away but that's the beginning of our vacation and believe me...I'm gonna need one. After 4 surgeries from 5/8 - 11/21 last year and slowly getting back to my good ol's self. I'm in the middle of making palm forever candles for a wedding reception memorial weekend and in the meantime am involved in doing some last minute fund raising stuff for my son's relay for life team and trying to get ready for out town's big 4th of july festival. Since nobody knows me personally....I work best with both ends of the candle burning plus through the middle. Have a great time everyone and if we end up not heading out of town until Sunday or Monday maybe I can you guys Sat. evening.
  20. Great info for me as well. I'm only very small scale right now and have been for the past 10 yrs. (work in progress hee hee:rolleyes2 ) but will keep in mind for future reference. Anyway, where are you in PA?
  21. I got the Cricut expressions on Ebay for $218.00 shipped. I had been watching auctions and just so happened to get a 10% from Ebay for not shopping with them for so long and happened to find this one with only 15 mins. left in the auction when I was home on lunch break one day. I let my sister who is a scrap booker use it first and she loves it. I want to use it to cut shapes out of material for appliques. We're going to go together on getting a couple of different cartridges. I see Michaels has cartridges on sale this week for $39.99 which is cheap in these parts.
  22. Nevermind...see how brain dead, never thought to do a search.
  23. I know I could figure this out on my own if I could just get my brain to slow down and think for once. To make a long story short, I've been "wrangled" willingly into helping my aunt make centerpieces, boquets (my first business venture before candles) and the likes for my second cousins wedding memorial weekend. I volunteered to make heart shaped pillars for the centerpieces. The molds I have are the short hearts (can't remember what size now, had them listed in classifieds but now have the need to use them) anyway, my original intent is to make the hearts white and make them like a forever candle and put an unscented peach color votive in a votive holder in the center to burn but for the life of me don't recall what to use to reserve the space for the votive. HELP!!
  24. Mine is due to arrive tomorrow. I kept watching Ebay. I had a 10% off coupon that I got in an email 'cause I hadn't bid on anything in a long time and ended up getting the Cricut Expression for $218.00 free shipping. Now I have to keep my eyes open for a deal on the cartridges. Michaels and JoAnn fabrics will let you use the discount coupons on cartridges but not on the machine itself. There is a scrapbooking store nearby that has a huge sale 2 times a year. You buy a bag and fill it with whatever you want as much as you can fit. My friend got several cartridges last year as well as a bunch of other stuff.I want to use it to cut out cloth appliques to applique onto the fronts of my scented hot pads.
