  1. Sounds like fun gardening. Where would be the best place to find herb plants/seeds?
  2. I'd like to know where you found such a cute burner as well. Is it a bit smaller than the usual ones or is it just the way the picture is?
  3. Thank You...now I feel dumb, if I would've thought things through enough, I could've figured that equation out!
  4. Okay, going to store today to get some stuff to try. I am a math idiot so when you give percentages....what would that consist of in "measurement terms" for a soap recipe...like 1/2 oz. I've read and re-read the HP instructions and hope I do okay. Is there someplace with recipes like for adding jojoba beads or dried stuff etc. Thanks for your help on the ingredients.
  5. I'm getting anxious about trying some hot process soap and have browsed the recipe section through a search but am not coming up with any specific recipes. Can someone chime in with some easy basic recipes for a beginner. TIA
  6. Only thing in my pots this weekend will be all the stuff I need to carry back down into the basement to get it off my kitchen counters, stove top, and table so I can do some easter crafts with the kids and actually eat dinner someplace other than the tv trays in the living room. maybe when I get the candle mess cleaned up, I'll bring up the m&p soap stuff up to make some soaps for my neices for easter. .....oooh, then dose of reality...I'll get nothing done with a 13 month old running around, gotta color eggs at Grandmas tonight or early tomorrow morning so we can take them with our easter dinner baskets to get blessed at church noon tomorrow, then 2:00 tomorrow huge egg hunt at friends house (40 kids, the crazy nut has 1000 eggs filled with jelly beans to hide). Anyway...everyone have a blessed holiday.
  7. Those look great. I've been wanting to dabble back into bath and body, but just haven't had time. I used to only do m & P but want to try some other stuff. This e's kitchen soap...is the recipe posted? Sounds like this must be a good one. TIA Never mind...I found it, looks like I better start with something easier.
  8. hmm, interesting with the yaley and pat catans. I've never paid attention to the boxes the wax was packed in, but when I bought this wax about 6 yrs. ago, the slab was wrapped in plastic and had a yellow Yaley tag on the outside and didn't have any info on it other than 150 melting point. Never the less, not much good for candle making.
  9. I also like Bluegrass for my container candles but use soy pillar/ votive wax from at wix end. It has a feathering / crystalizing appearance. I also like bluegrass for their fragrances
  10. I used to use the Yaley slab wax for my dipped critters, in fact, I purchasd their kit fo the bears abot 5 years ago. The wax works okay for the bears, but I haven't tried it for anything else. Pat Catans used to have it on sale every once in awhile for I think $9.99 for the 10 lb. slab. Once I got one that was broken into about 5 chunks and only paid $5.00, I was going to break it apart anyway. I purchased a bunch of the color blocks for 25 cents a piece when our JoAnne fabrics went out of business, but I don't really care for them. It's hard to get them cut into the same amount consistently...I only do 1-2 lbs. of wax at a time, so can't really get that little bit of a dye block measured out on my scale, so I think I'm going to get rid of all of them and just buy the diamonds from Peaks or candle cocoon. The colors seemed okay, except for the new package of "black" that I opened to make a Steeler candle and ended up making a "Pitt Panther" blue and gold candle instead due to the block not actually being black! Enough said.
  11. I soak mine in very hot water and the tiny bit left, I just rub off with an SOS, also use the SOS to wipe off the date when it is stamped on the jar.
  12. Great website. Was a lot of fun looking through it all, but I didn't see anywhere about where you are located.
  13. Funny, I was thinking about these a little bit ago when I was thinking about going to the store to get plumbers putty for my mold. I was contemplating getting some copper tubing, pouring wax onto cookie sheet and then using the tubing like a cookie cutter, but then i was thinking they may all get just stuck up in the tube and probably wouldn't be able to push it all out.
  14. thanks for the info on the putty..guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow to try this mold out. I have 2 sick kids at home and won't be going out to the store. Darn.
  15. I posted this question before but still didn't get the answer...think I was asking it wrong. I have a heart pillar mold with the hole in the bottom. I have a wick pin for this mold. The guy I placed the order with suggested I put the wick plug with pointed end through the hole so it is inside the mold...obviously I can't put the wick pin in and have it laying flat. If I just put the wick pin, is there enough space underneath the base of it and the wick hole that some wax will seep out so I still need to seal the hole? I don't have any mold sealer or the silver tape. Is there anything else in the common household I could use. I have the GE Silicone that I use to glue my wicks in jars, will this work?
  16. I'm beginning to feel left out. Could I have the chart also. Might help me with the stubborn spring rain I've been struggling with. tthscrpr90@aol.com
  17. Thanks for the supplier info. I just did a fake order and with shipping, I'd be saving $7.65 on 2 cases. If I can get these wicked right, this may be my new jar.
  18. nope, just a standard size votive and actually it is a tad bit smaller cause I have to sort of jam the votive down in to get it all the way to the bottom. The lousy picture just makes it look bigger.
  19. This is a great post. My husband will just love that I have more things to save! *styrofoam meat trays to line counter when pouring votives or for drying dipped critters. *used tissue paper from gift bags/ boxes..sometimes too wrinkled or torn..at craft shows to wrap candle jars when purchased *dental tweezers or tools (knew I had to spend $$ on all those instruments while in dental hygiene school for something) to hold the critters by the ear when dipping or to fluff in tiny spots. *metal bamboo skewere for arranging silk flowers / embeds in my hurricane molds * formula cans for excess wax *baby food jars for sample candle sniffers *pampered cheff pot scraper for wax on counter tops and floors (that never happens!) *corrigated cardboard for jar separation in boxes *little sticks (my lab tech SIL gets at work) use 2 taped at the ends tightly to hold wicks in place. *cardboard cut in circles according to jar circumfrance, use a protractor to find middle, poke hole through with large yarn needle, push wick through...centered and stable *not candle related, but still thrifty...my mom uses the plastic formula lids, cuts center out and teaches her first graders a simple macrame knot to make wreaths for their parents at Christmas. *currently saving red caps from milk jugs for kids to make lady bug magnets. *scoops from powdered laundry detergent...buttons for wheels..., poke a couple small holes in bottom, add soil.. wheelbarrow planter. I could go on and on, but don't want to hog the board. I'm planning on starting craft classes for kids, so my ideas keep on rolling! **just thought of this last night as I was sticking labels on tarts, the left over circular backing would be good to do a color test drop on.
  20. The wick is a 44-32-18c. I think the medium cotton would be too big, so I guess my real question is what shoild i try? RRD, HTP ? I think I have some GW 28 that I use for the glass easter eggs, maybe i'll trty one of those
  21. thanks for the info. I thought maybe sks would be cheaper with the shipping since I am in PA, but I put a fake order in both places and spb is still $4.91 cheaper. They also have good service.
  22. I use bluegrass soy and with the 8 oz. quilted jelly jar I use a HTP 104 or HTP 105 for heavier fragrance and have been satisfied with most of the results.
  23. what is sks? Can I ask what kind of wax you use and what you found to be a good wick to start testing with?
  24. Although this is a bad picture...I hope someone can help. I have been using a small cotton wick for all of my votives (soy wax) and haven't had any burning issues. The company switched their wax supplier and still suggested this same wick. Lo and behold...testing spring fragrances and I get a hang up in the votive container and a wick almost drowning but good throw, not excellent but sniffable in the same room. I'm not sure what to try next. The fragrance is Spring Rain and seems like it is a light fragrance. This is the 3rd burn by the way.
