  1. Oh Bunny...remember I'm still a newborn...you can't ask a newbie so many overwhelming questions at one time! OK, plain ol' sugar & an oil mixture of meadowfoam, shea, olive, rice bran & T-50 I sterilized the tube & cap in boiling water, let it dry, did it again & let it dry, spritzed w/ some rubbing alcohol, ley them dry & put in the scrub. So, is DH in danger??
  2. what the..?? Please tell me I've mis-read something. I made DH an unpreserved ordinary sugar scrub last week & put it in a cool malibu-type bottle so he wouldn't dip his wet fingers in it. Please don't tell me I have to throw it out...I'm jobless & broke...can't afford to waste stuff! Yeah, I tried this once with a hand-made "all natural" lotion...had to keep it refridgerated...absolutely no fun using cold A** lotion after a nice warm bath! I'm not a big fan of preservatives, but for my comfort & safety, I have to deal w/ it!
  3. I get mine from WSP or The Sage...it depends on what I'm ordering & who has most of what I need! http://www.thesage.com http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com Sharon
  4. Wow, interesting...anyone care to explain this to me like I'm a 2 yr old? It never occured to me that too much preservative could be a problem. And even with a preservative, how would you know how long the item is really safe? I mean, I have some things with experation dates, but none of them are lotion. OK, am I making sense here? Sharon
  5. I've read that items like lotion can start to go "bad" even before you actually see anything. Anybody know anything about this?
  6. I'm in Indiana so I'm not that far away, but the extra 9 bucks or more spent on shipping has always bugged me! I'm glad to see this new "program":yay::yay:...just hope it isn't a temporary thing! Now, my fantasy: more (if not all) suppliers will begin offering USPS Priority Flat Rate for eligible items...
  7. I'm a baker by nature & nurture, used to Macramé, but now I sew & crochet a few small things, write poetry & short stories, am a "self-made & taught" computer graphics artist , and now a B&B crafter Wow, with all the talented people here, I think we should get together and open our own "Mall of America"! I think that together we could rule the world:D You guys are so amazing! Sharon
  8. CB I'm the FORMER queen of the" I HAAAAAAAAAATE ANYTHING VANILLA" club. Get yourself a bottle of Madagascar Vanilla (I rec OT) and, honey, you'll be singin' & dancin' to the "happy vanilla" song! *getdown* ok, hijack over!
  9. Thanks Christine & Carol! I ordered the Dimethicone...if I'm gonna try I may as well try the right way. Thanks for your input on the fusion magic, too:D Sharon
  10. Were you trying to get a chocolate colored soap or chocolate scented soap? I've used cocoa powder & unrefined cocoa butter to make "chocolate soap"...it smelled like chocolate to me with a nice brown color. I've never used the oxides 'cause I'm kinda lazy... + I like to try to use what I already have for "challenge testing" purposes. You could also try a chocolate FO and brown liquid colorant. As far as the crystalizing, the only thing I can think of is what shutterbugg asked: are you wrapping as soon as you unmold? HTH Sharon
  11.  Hmm...maybe I should have ridden the short yellow bus to school, but aren't those points something that you just...well... expect!? I'm actually slightly embarrassed...I worked for the company that supplies the "surety bond"...total crap IMO
  12. Yep, you'll do just fine! Now I can make larger batches without spending anymore money :whoohoo: DH'll be happy! Thanks! Sharon
  13. Hey Robin Dumb newbie question: So, M&P is safe in aluminum? I have a ton of aluminum pans that I no longer use for cooking...could use them for my soap instead of the make-shift double boiler thingy I use. And is the "no aluminum" thing because of the lye? Thanks, Sharon
  14. Dang, just 1? Hmm, that would have to be Madagascar Vanilla (OT)...right now My old stand-bys are Tiare Blossom, Lilac, & Jasmine (all OT) Sorry, I had to give a shout-out to my faves!
  15. How do you know when an FO is no longer "good"? Does it smell funky like butters & oils?
  16. Hi everyone After ordering samples, I still haven't found quite what I'd like in a lotion, so I've decided to roll up my sleeves and try to make my own Maybe by this time next year I'll have it right! I found a nice little recipe but it calls for Dimethicone, and of course, I don't have any. Would cyclo be a decent sub? I want the lotion to ultimately end up not greasy, but with that soft dry, not tight, feeling (?) ETA: Has anyone ever used the Fusion Magic from Kangaroo Blue? Is it as easy as it sounds? TIA Sharon
  17. Donna, Thanks so much for the links! Very informative...I printed it out & added it my notebook. I have to give all of you your much deserved props:bow::bow: That is a lot of info to take in, but so necessary. Sharon
  18. I stumbled across a site & there was a legal disclaimer that stated " Products have not been tested or evaluated by the FDA". Is that safe & legal? OK, I don't know all the ins & outs, but don't cosmetics have to be registered with the FDA? And if they are registered, doesn't some kind of "challenge testing" have to be done? Is that done independently (on your own) or some kind of FDA testing lab? Am I making sense here? I'm just wondering where the "no test/eval by FDA" fits in & why it was even stated Thanks Sharon
  19. typo typo typo!! This is a perfect example as to why you should not "talk" to people when you're tired & have other stuff on your mind!
  20. Thanks Candle Man! I've got tons of HDPE bottles...now I can hit DH up for other stiff I "need" Sharon
  21. Is ROE the same thing as the Rosemary EO? I keep reading about it & just wondering? Thanks
  22. santa big Merry Christmas!!santa chee Merry Christmas!!santa big Merry Christmas!!santa chee Do any of you know if it would be ok to use HDPE bottles for bath oil with fo's, maybe eo's? I saw some really nice black HDPE bottles on sale that I'd like to use to make VD gifts for all the sweet men in my life. Also, does anyone know of a kind of list with guidelines as to what type of plastic is good/not good for certain things? I searched the archives, but found nothing about the different kinds of plastic. I know PETE is great for nearly everything, but hubby's pockets are a little thin & I'm trying to be considerate so he won't start squawking about funding my new addiction! Thanks all! Sharon santa bigMerry Christmas!! santa cheeMerry Christmas!! santa bigMerry Christmas!!
  23. Hi tamtam try www.ebaystores.com/thegourmetrose That's where I buy my bases. Plus, she can ship up to 18#'s for 8.10 priority, just be sure to let her know you want flat rate. HTH Sharon
