  1. I do layers I start with white as the main color and then transfer some to a glass measuring cup and dye it bright red. Pour the white layer and let it cool, then pour a tiny layer of the red to create a seal, let it cool and then pour your red layer to the thickness you want, let that cool and seal with white, then pour white......the thin sealing layer protects it from bleeding. also letting each layer cool is important. I just did some last night and they look so pretty and smell wonderful! I too thought about the swirl thing but was afraid that it would bleed.
  2. I have always used 4627 but, I have read that 4630 has better adherance to the jar. My 4627 is constantly pulling away in spots no matter what I do....and you just know it looks ugly! So, I'm thinking of trying the 4630 to see if it is really better. The fragrance load is the same but, what about the throw? Input would be greatly appreciated! :undecided
  3. I love my converted presto pots! The only problem I have is I NEED A MUCH BIGGER MELTER!!!!! Saving my pennies to buy a 150 lb. melter next summer! My dad did my pots and they only took about 15 minutes to do 2 of them!
  4. I use a double burner solid surface unit one side for my pouring pot the other for my stock/mixing pot.
  5. I use 2 62z wicks with this one.
  6. I also use a zinc 62 for the stubborn FO's........spices etc. I always pour one with a 51 and one with a 62 for new FO's. Just pour it about 3/4 full, if you use a mason jar...you want to test it at the widest spot to see that it has a full melt pool. If the 51 isn't drowning out and the melt pool is good then that candle will be fine, but, burn it for several hours just to make sure it's burning properly. If it is tunneling, Then the bigger wick will be better. Some candles.....are problem children and if they aren't burning properly after these 2 choices, then try double small (51) and double big (62) and see how that burns. That is a rare one! In the candle that the burns are not good, don't throw them out or waste the wax, take the failed candles and place them in a double boiler and melt them down and re use the wax with the proper wick.
  7. I want to do a red swirl on the top of a candy cane candle in a small christmas crock..........does waiting until the top off is cool and then placing a swirl of red wax on the top sound ok? Or any other suggestions?
  8. I called Carolina because the website had said temporarily out of stock for weeks and..........they told me that they may not order any more. I ordered from C&S yesterday. Wax has gotten pricey! I have found a local oil company to buy from so next batch, I'm picking it up!
  9. www.fillmorecontianer.com They have everything there at wholesale prices. You can order the lids by piece or case just type in the amount you want in the individual quantity box.
  10. This is the best wax! Yes it is messy but, it gives a wonderful hot and cold throw. We only use zinc wicks with it and the wick size depends alot on the FO used. For a pint mason size I use a 51 for most oils, for heavier oils and spices......usually a 62. There are only a couple of oils that require double wicking, either 51 or 62 in this size jar. Zinc wicks are great and I don't have a problem with sooting or mushrooming unless I don't trim the wick. But, the wick size is not just determined by a glass width but by the FO also for a good clean, even burn. Sometimes the hot throw issue is a FO issue and if a scent does not throw.........I'll order from another supplier. Also, NO Additives are needed unless you want to add UV inhibitor.
  11. Some of those scents sound interesting............
  12. 3/8 NPT Tapered pipe thread! That's what my husband just said!
  13. I have tried 2 samples from C&S and IFT for Amber Romance and they both are just not it! I personally wear the fragrance and so does my daughter and there is some strange undertone to the fragrance that does not smell right. Has anyone who know exactly what it smells like found a perfect dup?
  14. I checked out their website and ordered some samples but the pricing seemed really high and I was not impressed with the samples they sent.
  15. I don't know. I work at a place that makes candles but, I'm thinking of doing my own thing. I already have started with aroma beads and enjoy that. But, I just see things that I want to do differently and definately much smaller. I want different fragrances and have enough experience to make candles, tarts and votives. But the difference is downsizing everything I do from mega production quantities to manageable! The smallest run of candles I do is 6 from 1 pouring pot. (16 0z) I don't need a house full of candles! LOL! I don't really think wholesaling would make me happy, it cuts into the profit too much! Fundraisers aren't bad if you use a less expensive glass. So far, in working my way toward this idea I have spent $200 and need more stuff! I would estimate that just to start it will cost around $500. So, is it worth it? I'm not sure.........but, I think I'll give it a try! Any advice out there?
  16. Aroma Beads for sachets! Lots & lots of them! Next weekend candles! First candle / spa party Dec. 2nd. Hope this stuff sells!
  17. The 4627 comfort blend does not soot for us and we produce alot of candles a week. If you keep the wick trimmed it burns clean and evenly with the proper wick size, with some oils we have to wick up or even double small wick to get them to burn properly. A couple of FO's require a double big wick! All of our candles are done in 16 oz mason jars. I do find that sometimes mushrooming is a pain but I just trim the wick every time I light one.
  18. IGI 4627 is all we use where I work. And I must say it is the best of the container waxes. We always use it with a zinc wick. The throw is excellent!
  19. Ok Early American does not have them listed under libbey glass. So, I just got back from Wal-Mart and looked at the way others have covered the open candle glass, 1) A clear plastic disc that has a hole for the wick to come thru that sits right on top of the wax 2) A clear label seal across the top of the jar 3) A plastic cap just like the plastic used in the first description that goes on tip of the jar with a slight lip. 4) Then later I found that glade is using something like a top on a fountain drink.......like McDonalds that sits on top! Where oh where can you find such things????
  20. Actually they were Anchor Hocking Hourglass..........but they are the same! You can't seem to order direct from Libby to get the glass and the lids.........any ideas where to get this glass at a good price? I have searched and searched. Good glass is hard to get! The Anchor Hocking was listed at $1.14 each without a lid.
  21. I'm trying to decide on a type of glass for my container candles. I really don't want to use mason or jelly jars. I like the look and price of the hourglass jars but they do not have a cap or lid. I just want something more elegant for my contaners! How would you cover these open jars so that they look nice?
  22. I love making the beads....I use 1 cup beads and 1 tbs. FO and it's working pretty good. Sometimes with a few oils I have to add more beads. Warm Vanilla Sugar is horrible to soak in! I have made the ornies and have been testing them for 2 weeks........not much fragrance in the car even with the heater blowers on. I have found that the beads in a sachet placed over the vent or defroster works much better. I had really hoped that the ornies put out alot of fragrance........but so far not so good! Any other suggestions?
  23. www.Simplysaltsonline.com That's where mine are from and tonight I am experimenting! So far, smells great and looks pretty also! Now, I'm thinking about pricing and packaging! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..............
