For my votives I found that 740 and 745 worked ell for the majority of them. However, I do add stearic to harden mine. For the jj jars I found 765 worked for the majority and 767 for the little harder ones to burn. I have had some that I had to use 755 for!

I poured 449 last night, FO So. Apple Pie, poured at 155. This morning there was the most beautifully smooth top! but.....the sides of the jar had a lot of frosting. The house was cool, 66. Could that have done it, or just the "soy thing". The cold throw was wonderful! But so was my other 444 cold throw. Of course it was dreamsicle, which has been a strong FO.
ps got my samples, Jason, thank you!

I have and I like them a lot!

Sigh, one more question. Does the crystal wax or palm wax pillar hug like paraffin pillars or not, like a soy pillar?
-
They said LX and RRD wicks were recommended. When I was trying out soy pillars a few years ago they did work good. I am just going to have to try this! I'm ready for something new now anyway. Doesn't pay to stay in a rut... Good logic! Well it's after midnight here and I'm getting sleepy. I'll go dream about feathery pillars!

Which beautiful wax are you referring to, S&P or the one from Candlesandsupplies? I was trying to follow your conversations! The one from CandS was easier to wick? ahem, not that I'm interested...
-
Oh please you guys! Don't get me started thinking about making pillars! Esp. those pretty looking pillars you are talking about! And please don't tell me if they have any kind of a hot throw. And that I'm not too far for shipping. To quote others: mmmmm..I'm plugging my ears and covering my eyes!

I can't smell my candles at all and depend totally on my testers!

When I burned mine, several jars left a waxy-like (palm oil?) not hang-up but not clean sides. It happened with diff. FO's so I don't think it was that. Did that happen to anyone else?
-
If, by any chance, quite a few like the 449 wax, will anyone be carrying that one? Just wondering, even tho I haven't got my sample of it yet.

I had poured 444 with orange dreamsicle in jj before all you guys results so I poured too cool. But Anyway, I zapped the top with the heat gun (actually to even out the top before I tried a new wick) and this morning there are hairline cracks going across the jar. That is a problem I was having with my other wax. What is causing this? AM I heating the wax too high? I usually go to 180*.

I had to buy some in an emergency. Has anyone used this and did the tabs ever come loose after the wick burned down??
-
That's funny Fern-Marie! And it is true most of the time! I have been able to succeed on numerous occasions, tho, to get some rather pretty candles with EZ. Because of the wonderful throws my customers tell me not to change the wax! But I may sneak a new candle in if this new wax turns out good!
-
I saw that on MC. I wonder what the price difference will be between the various suppliers.
-
A little side thought thrown in here--I found MC soy wax to burn more slowly than others. I wonder if anyone else has noticed that?
-
Jason sure is working hard to get us all our samples! I'll bet he's swamped. We are all thankful and excited about what he is doing for us!

Southern Scentsations have terriffic oils that are awesome in soy!

From my reading of messages, I had been thinking 1/2" meltpool was the border of being too hot. That was the basis of my wick testing. What does everyone else think?? Am I testing too conservatively?
-
I burned the 444 yesterday, made with Orange Dreamsicle and colored orange. The hot throw is wonderful. But when they cooled I did get a white line where the meltpool was. I think 130 is a good temp to pour at. I did pour at 120 but think I could have gone hotter.
-
Thanks!! I see some things I need to try different.:smiley2:

I burned mine today, 444 with Orange Dreamsicle. The hot throw was terriffic. But it burns funnier than ordinary soy wax. Going to take some playing with. After it burned and cooled I zapped it to even it out to try another wick. When that cooled I got a hairline crack right across the top. But all my waxes have been doing that. I don't think they like me!
-
Good! Let us know how it goes! What wax did you get?
-
I can't remember where I got mine from but they don't fit tightly in the bottoms. They can move around a little bit and not be centered. I also have to watch them closely.

I had just been having all kinds of unusual problems with the waxes that I am currently using that I was just too excited about this. I hope I didn't jump the gun too much. I would like to say that with my testing I noticed that I get to 120* and it sets up real quick, to nice smooth tops! But you do have to get to the right temp that works for you. I didn't get a chance to ask Jason what temp was reccommended.

I'm wondering if the sinkholes would be less if there was a wick in the candle. In some of my tests candles with wicks had much less of a problem....
