  1. I think they look nice. Are you new to this? While others have different taste than you that does not make it "tacky". You put some work into this and wanted to show others. Good job!
  2. Would you mind sharing your blend? How much of each oil? I am intrigued! I just made a patchouli mango but am looking for a softer scent....VERY pretty soap!
  3. I use syringes all the time. I also use the styrofoam containers that empty blood tubes come is as a lip balm filling tray. I have found with the syringes after a few uses the rubber part of the plunger gets tacky and hard to use.
  4. I am really digging Amazing Grace right now! Is the BW verison as strong as the SW version? My daughter would flip over that pretty pink! Good job
  5. I just opened my doors this past weekend in my new shop. I have been making soaps and candles for about 6 years now and selling them at the hospital where I work as an RN. I have the luxury....or the curse....of keeping my weekend job at the hospital and working in the shop during the week. My 18 year daughter is helping me and will run it on Saturdays. I have been pleasantly surprised at the sales thus far as I have not advertised. Funny thing....I just finished grad school as Family Nurse Practitioner...and what do I do???? start a candle business!! I have no husband to help me but a dear friend has helped me with some of the expenses such as signage. Life is good and I get to do the three things I enjoy the most....spending time with my daughter, making my products and nursing. I encourage anyone to follow and dream and do what you love! If my business fails.....it fails but I cannot say I didn't try.
  6. For my metro jars I don't even put a label on the jar itself but one on the top and bottom. I think that less is better. I however like your labels for a different type candle. For the uncolored, simple and clean look...the label should reflect that. my2scents
  7. It reads as though it is a bar of soap. She is defining a bar of soap that is made from saponified oils verses a detergent such as "coast" soap or other similar. This is for the milled soaps right?
  8. Thanks for that tidbit! I would hate to sell it and it molded! yuck!! The stuff is gross enough on it's own!
  9. I have one and use it only for HP soap. Does anyone have trouble with it leaking? I tried pouring CP batch and it leaked. I know my HP will stick badly and I have to pry and pray! Good to know about the saran wrap....Maybe I could use it to prevent the leak.
  10. I was making up some bath jellies for kids and the first batch I made with liquid soap I made from some of my CP soaps grated and boiling water added and mixed. The other batch I made with store bought liquid soap. My problem: The consistancy of the batch I made with the CP mixture was slimy and really what I was hoping for...I think kids would dig it.....but very little bubbles.... The batch I made with the liquid store bought soap came out very firm and not slimey at all.....better bubbles though. I am interested in knowing what the consistancy is supposed to be with this recipe.... AND how can I get it slimey and bubbly? The recipe is: 1/2 boiling water added to a knox gelatin packet. Add 1/2 cup liquid soap and colorant...fragrance. ( I just used a smidge of fragrance and a few drops colorants). Any suggestions are welcome and I thank you!
  11. Very nice product. I personally like the script and had no problem reading or figuring it out. I would buy your candles!
  12. I know this is most likely stupid....but is there a brown colorant for MP? I use cocoa for CP when I want a brown but I do not have a brown colorant and cannot recall seeing one. I checked with select shades....no obvious brown and there are some mixes to make a sorta brown... anyway....anyone share how to make a brown MP soap? THanks!!
  13. Thanks Henry! I love your reply so much I may try a beeswax pillar just so I can use it!
  14. Can someone explain the "bloom" to me. Is this only with the beeswax candle? I have been fighting the frost for so long...how could I have missed the bloom???
  15. I put a 25 pound block in the turkey fryer but even getting it out of the damn bag can be a bitty! I used gloves so at least I don't have to worry about getting all that sticky stuff off. By the way....what is the best wick for this wax? I am using zinc... but not loving it.The J50 is a soft but much more manageable. It is a little sticky but in a slab form instead of the block of vaseline!
  16. I totally understand your pain! I can't seem to find the perfect combination either. Whenever I do....something changes.... How do the people that do make large amounts of candles have any consistancy?? I would also be interested in those that fill containers for people that bring in random jars get the wicking correct? (Please do not preach reasons for not refilling...I know them....) I am just interested in know what other people do Sorry that doesn't help you at all Jane but I want to know too!! It is hard to believe everyone tests all the fragrances and jars with each new batch of wax!
  17. I have a questions about colorants in CP. I made a lovely soap with a red oxide colorant. I used a wee too much and not only is my dishwasher a terra cotta color ( learned a lesson on that one ) the soap itself produces really red lather! I gave a bar to a friend and he said when his wife took a bath it looked like a blood bath!!! Thankfully it did not discolor the tub! I see all these brilliant colors in soap and wondered if it is a problem. I have made other soaps with colorants but maybe have been afraid of the brilliant colors because I don't want to scare anyone! I would appreciate any comments on the subject. Happy Easter!!
  18. I carry these fragrances for various body products: Black Raspberry Vanilla Cucumber Melon Lavender OMH Sunflower Grapefruit Peppermint Pink Sugar Baby Powder Fruit Slices (would love some thoughts on changing the name for this) White Willow and Tea Sweet Pea I am sooooo tired of this one!! Be Delicious Brown Sugar and Spice
  19. Wow! That is awesome! You draw too? For heavens sake!! you people kill me with all your talent! Please tell me...of you don't mind.... what font that is the Light as Air...I really like that too!
  20. Blueberry muffin is one of the bakery scents I actually like alot. Candlescience has one that will drift through the whole house. I LOVE your candles!! They are really beautiful. You are quite talented.
  21. I would like some suggestions on how to prevent air pockets around toy embed. When I put a toy like a lizard or something in a rectangle 3 oz mold or any other size really, I will pour a layer, wait until it sets up a little and place the toy and then pour another layer. Each time using an alcohol spritz. I have little air pockets around the toy. Kinda like where the soap dents in when I put the toy on the soap....does this make sense? I hope someone can help me with it. I also wanted to know if those that use the ultraclear bases...do you scent them? I have noticed the FOs will cloud the soap and have not achieved a really clear one. For my duckie soaps, I tape the little bastards down...lightly...so they don't bobble around
