  1. I've only done one candle in a pint square mason. I used LX 26 in it. I use LX wick in everything I can. I like them. Go to www.candlescience.com They have a wick guide. I've found that if I start with their suggestions, I usually need to go up a size or two. I hope that made sense. I really love getting stuff from let it shine. My order is here the next day. I can't get from anywhere else that fast. That's going across 2 states, (WA & ID).
  2. I just looked where you are from. I buy my wax and some scents from www.letitshineusa.com also. They are good and strong just like flickersfragrances. They are in Seattle.
  3. I use this wax also. Love it. Had to work on it to get the right pour temp for me though. Fragrances that I have found to work good with it are from www.flickersfragrances.com Apple Jack & Peel Autumn Spice Baby Lotion Cucumber Melon Chocolate Delight Caramel Clouds Carrot Cake Cinnamon Stix Cinnamon Vanilla Cucumber Melon French Lavender Mint Chocolate Tea & Sugar Tuscan Lace (I've only made lotion from this, wonderful!) Vanilla Hazelnut Vanilla Supreme
  4. I say buy a starter kit. That's what I did. I found one that included the jars, wax, wick, and fragrance oil. Some of them include other items also. Do a google search, you'll come up with lots to choose from. I did the same when I wanted to try pillars. It just so happens that kit sucked. I researched alot and then bought molds, wax, and everything else that goes with making pillars. I've been making candles for almost a year now. Even though I have sold some and have a done a craft show, I am still learning and researching. Researching and trying what I read is how I learn. Good luck to you.
  5. I use non fat dry milk in all my milk recipes.
  6. I make my votives out of soy and palm mold wax. I put them in a tight fitting votive cup to burn. They burn edge to edge. No shell.
  7. I use mini ice cube trays. Gotta be careful here though...some waxes won't come out of the trays. I have also used little soap/candy molds...then cut the shape in half or leave it whole for chunks.
  8. I got a big bottle of this scent with a kit. I'm going to have to try mixing it with something else. Jami you are right it does smell like "skunk" by itself.
  9. I have an order to finish. Then I can start making stuff for a mini craft show type open house for the end of April.
  10. I buy most of my fragrance oils at flickers fragrances and let it shine. I use soy and palm wax.
  11. Congradulations on opening your store and your first sale.
  12. I don't know how to make it. But, my guess would be the same way you make the other and put it in a foamer bottle. You would need to experiement with it. You might need to make it a little thinner, so it will pump.
  13. After reading these horror stories, I'm glad we have to go the post office to get all of our mail. No home delivery in Mullan. I try to get wax and supplies delivered by UPS or FedEx. Have never had a problem with either of them.
  14. Hi Nita; Testing has to be done on all candles. You have to know if the wick is too small or too big. Your melt pool will determine alot of this. Rule of thumb is: 1 hour for each inch in diameter. So if you have a 3" diameter, then in 3 hours you should reach full melt pool. In a container, that means to all the edges of the container. On pillars, I like about 1/4" left all the way around. Each fragrance oil can burn different. Have you read all the information on this board? There's a lot of it. Read all the posts that you can. I know it is time consumming, but it's worth it. I don't know where I would be at without this board.
  15. Nita; It does take alot of money to get serious about a candle business. I haven't put anything on credit cards. I figure out to buy something out of my paychecks from the convience store that I manage. I try to buy a little something every two weeks. Some of the places that I buy from give sample fragrance with orders. That is really nice of them. It's a way for them to have people try new fragrances. Also...I bought 1 or 2 oz bottles when I started. Usually, I would buy the sampler pack if they offered one. Most places do. I'm not even thinking about making a profit for 2 to 3 years. I'm having fun and still testing. Not only new fragrances, but packaging and tags/labels also. Hopefully what I just started will work. Take a look at my avitar. That is how I package my 3 x 3 pillars. The picture does it no justice.
  16. Hi Nita; I started making candles around June of last year. I did a lot of research and studying for about 3 months. Then I bought a soy container kit. I was hooked after that. I thought that I was going to stick to containers only. BOY was I wrong. I soon started doing votives and pillars. Candle making relaxes me. I did my first craft show last November. It was hetic getting ready for that, but well worth it. I'm doing my first open house in April. My girlfriend in Spokane has agreed to have it at her house. It'll be fun. I just got a catalog made and started getting it out. Got my first order last week from that. Now...to get a website going. A lot of testing and research go into every candle I make. It doesn't go out my door until I am happy with the results.
  17. If you have a scrapbooking store near you, go there and buy the "Zots". They are clear adhesive dots. I just bought a box of 200 for around $5.00. They work wonderfully.
  18. Hi Nita; www.bittercreek.com is in Texas. There are other also. www.lonestarcandlesupply.com These will you get started.
  19. I don't use the metal tabs on my pillars. I either pre-wick my mold or use a wick pin. I have concave tops. So the bottom of the mold is the top of the candle.
