  1. IGI 1343 paraffin, 2 Tbls Stearic, poured at approx 160
  2. I haven't posted in awhile, but thought I would share some candles I am making for a craft fair in November. I use IGI 1343 paraffin, 2 Tbls stearic, poured at approx 170 on the 6 inch and poured at approx 160 on the 3 inch.
  3. check your hardware stores for a heat gun, they can run from 20.00 to 50.00 depending on the style. I use a heat gun more in making pillars, voitives and tarts.
  4. Candle Cocoon's Winter Woodlands Whisper is a really nice one too, it is pine, spruce and fir. And Peaks' Cinnamon Balsam are my favorites.
  5. I pour the second pour when the mold feels room temp or almost cool. On your second pour fill the hole and a little more. When that is cool to touch, cut off your wick and do the third pour to level your bottom. That is how I do it anyway, and as long as the mold is on a level surface your bottom will be smooth.
  6. Thanks Donita! Next time I will up the stearic pp another Tablespoon and pour a few degrees cooler. At just 1 T heavier FO's would seep or not blend completely. Thanks again for the reply. Oh, and relief holes never seemed as deep, you know once the candle was cooled ready for the second pour. I was then concerned about air pockets but during test burns there were no problems. I use 1343A.
  7. Thanks! I didn't get much of a rustic effect like I was going for on the two fluted mold pillars, need to pour a little cooler next time. The light green one I poured at 170, wasn't going for a rustic effect. The fluted molds are my favorite, only have a few, this one, fluted heart and a fluted oval. I find that with these metal molds just using the metal tape I get leaks more often but if I put the square magnet over the tape no leaks. Tried another picture No comments on amounts of Stearic?
  8. Light green mottled poured at 170 in aluminum mold, Dark Green Mottled & Rustic poured at approx 149 degrees in metal mold. Brown Rustic poured at approx 149 in metal mold. I have been away from making candles for about a year because of our move, I found myself going through my notes because I couldn't remember some very basic things. Need more practice, looks like I could pour even cooler. Rustics always turn out better for me in metal molds and easier to release from the mold. I use to only use 1 Tbl spoon Stearic, but read here where some of you use 2 and even 3 Tbls. I tried 2 Tbls on these, didn't notice a difference yet, but haven't burned them yet. Any thoughts on amount of stearic and why? I noticed the mottling in the light green one have smaller air like bubbles than I use to get using less stearic but if I remember right different FO's produced different effects. Comments good and bad welcomed!
  9. I have been testing the EL Millennium Blend, so far I like the RRD series best. I haven't tested any of the fragrances that I usually had to wick up on yet.

  12. Peak Candle Cocoon Chermark (Rustic Escentials)
  13. http://www.hormel.com/templates/knowledge/knowledge.asp?catitemid=46&id=145 You mentioned pillars, here is a picture of 3 pillars on a plate with cranberries. I am stuck on you using cranberries. I love red this time of year.
  14. How about mirrors and votives and a single flower like an orchid in a crystal type vase. You could put some cranberries on the mirror. It would be different than the usual pine cones etc. Just a thought
  15. Have you heard of Nashville Wraps, the prices are reasonable and very reasonable if you get some that are on sale.
  16. Last year Bayberry and any Pine did not do well in sales for me. Last weeks craft fair I sold out of Peaks' Spruce Christmas Tree and almost sold out of Bayberry (Peak). So it does look like this year it is a popular scent.
