  1. I didn't see a size listed for the candles.. unless i overlooked it... I realize you're just working on this, but just in case... I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your names of the scents. That is very creative!!! I like the theme... The logo across the top could stand out a little more... Not sure how though... the picture on the right is smaller than the other one so that caught my eye right away. All in all I think you've got a great idea and website going!! I wish you the best of luck!!! Heather edited to add that i do see it on the home page now that i went back, but if most "customers" are like me, they won't read it on that page... I would suggest having it on the same page right under the candles. Maybe that program will allow you to put a little blurb about the candles? like approx. how long they burn, etc? other things customers will want to know-and "why" they should buy your candles...
  2. That's what i got from it too. The only problem with taking your own pictures is that you don't always have the "props" available to take the pictures-and if you're like me, you can take an "okay" picture, but not something "beautiful". I think taking an istock photo and possibly altering it just a little-like a different border, etc. or adding another pic in with it. is the way i will go. Heather
  3. Bert- I'm with everyone else-I'd love for you to add the scents you listed. Your list sounds pretty good. How do you keep up? I think I need about 10 extra hours a day, you must need about a million!!! I just got my order today and if oob is any indication i'm going to love everything. even oob, lavender smelled like real lavender.. You can keep adding scents-especially at the price you are offering. We use the same wax so I'm betting that everything will be as awesome as everyone here has raved about. and What quick service too. you just got back last thursday, stayed up late filling orders, and i received mine in the mail today(tuesday)!!! that is awesome customer service if you ask me. I'm sure i'll be back for more. Heather
  4. sorry to hijack this thread... I don't know much about making soap-my mom makes it, but I wanted to say that you are so lucky to live in a log cabin with wood heat. That is my "dream" when I retire. To move somewhere remote, with a little stream or pond, lots of trees, wildlife, etc. That would be the life. Of course, I would still need electricity to make candles and use my computer, lol!! I'd be lost without my computer. Can live without the phone though... I rarely use it unless I have to!! I've had wood heat a few places we've lived and I love it. It is work getting all the wood for the heater, but there is NOTHING like wood heat. I remember growing up, us kids would sit right in front of the fireplace in the winter. we had 2 of them-none upstairs though, some came up through the vent in the floor to my room, but both of my brother's rooms were cold-so they had to have baseboard heaters. We had one "traditional" type, and one that you could "sit" on - we'd lay our clothes on top of it and warm them up before getting dressed. Would love to see pics of your cabin if you'd care to share!! Is it something you had built or did your purchase it? good luck with your soap making adventure!! ok, done with the hijacking!! carry on.
  5. i saw some candles at my local drugstore that had "toppings" on the wicked candles. out of curiousity i picked one off-they actually "fell off" and it melted in my hand easily so i tasted it and it was a sweet candy taste. they also had one with an "apple" embed that was sprinkled with what appeared to be cinnamon, so i tasted and yep, real cinnamon. so, i guess if "big" candle companies can do it, i don't see why we can't. the sprinkles were near the wick so it must not be a fire hazard? I only make wickless candles and tarts, so i've been putting that kind of stuff on my "melts"-it's not going to hurt since it only gets warmed up. Heather
  6. i found this on i stock, from what i read, you can't use the pics for products you would make like a t-shirt or a mug, but you can use it to make websites, labels, etc. that would be the way I would go. Too much legal mumbo jumbo, even though i'm a small fry i don't need any legal troubles. 3. 7. That's too late for me. My last craft show is on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Maybe later we could do a coop. They are a cute idea though!!! Heather
  8. I was just wondering if anyone can speak from experience about cane molds. What I am wondering is if it is easier to use the metal molds and "cool down the outer layer", etc. or if purchasing a silicone mold will produce a good cane that can be removed easily? I really want to try these, but I think it would be easier to use the silicone molds. Can you still "embed" pictures, etc. in the silicone ones? And, what size do most of you do your canes? Hoping someone with experience can guide me along this. Also, what wax is the best? I would probably order from Bitter Creek North as they are the closest to me and have the best shipping cost. Thanks!!! Heather
  9. What does everyone think about doing a coop for these? would we save any money? My registration has been accepted so I can order from them. I'm just not sure $$ wise if we would save? At least we could get a few different patterns instead of just 4 of the same kind. I don't want a HUGE coop, but i could do a "small" one for a few of us, if there were enough interested. Let me know what you think? I guess I should do a gauging interest thread on the coop section-i'll do that later. right now i need to feed my kids!!! Heather
  10. This would look really cool with some sort of red/green potpourri mix, etc. and what would be great is that you could change the look of it whenever you wanted to. I think i'll take the plunge and order a few. Thanks for the help!!! Heather
  11. Thank you so much, i requested wholesaler id, but does anyone know what kind of minimums they have and if any other candle suppliers sell this stuff in smaller quantities? And what do you think of this kind of warmer compared to ceramic type? Thanks!!!!
  12. I was wondering if anyone knew where to find something like this? This would be a great option from me as people around here really love this kind of look-especially with potpourri in the base? I did a search but I can't find anything - i'm sure this person lucked out when they found it. TIA
  13. I just want to say good luck!!! I've done very well at small shows. I actually did a "huge" 3 day show and did WORSE than i have ever done. competition is good, but too much and people are overwhelmed. I live in a very rural area and a lot of people go to craft shows just to get out and do something different. plus, a lot of people live so far from town, that it is just "awesome" that there is something going on so they can justify getting out of the house, plus, those are the kind that have the $$$$ to spend, spend, spend... my very first show had probably 20 vendors-a lot of them "commercial" and i made $500... let us know how it goes!!! Heather
  14. How to Personalize MillCreek Bases: To personalize MillCreek's Soy Bases simply add 1/2 ounce to one ounce (not more than one ounce for lotion, soap, shampoo and conditioner bases; 2oz+ may be used for spray base; test fragrance for desired scent) body safe fragrance oil per gallon of soy base and, if desired, a few drops body safe colorant. When mixing is complete use MillCreek's heavy duty push pump to dispense into 4oz and 8oz lotion/soap/spray bottles. Or for each 4 ounce bottle add 2 ounces of base, 10-15 drops body safe fragrance oil, 1 drop body safe colorant and shake until incorporated. Keep adding base and shaking until bottle is full. Enjoy! I follow these directions-directly from their website and it is strong enough -unless the scent is really light to begin with. hth, Heather
  15. yup, that was raggedy dani-who is not on the board under that name anymore:confused: but here's the picture... that's a lot of powder!!!!
  16. ok, i'm trying to understand this whole trademark stuff... so what if you did something like "mom's best sugar cookies" or something else like that? for candles/lotion etc? can you still use part of the name if you add something else before or after? i can see the names that require some "thought" but geesh.. sugar cookie, flower names, that's a little riddiculous... of course, then i can have some original names and no one will be able to know where i got my scents because they will have been renamed. lol!!! TIA!!!
  17. i don't post much here either, but i have to say that i just absolutely love your new labels. they really convey the "daisy girl" image much better. Congrats on such cool labels!!!
  18. when you say "test" does that mean you need to test it on yourself, or do you need to have some sort of lab tests done? and if so, how do you go about that and what is the cost. I've been doing bases, but i would love to come up with something custom that could possibly save me $$ having the bases shipped. Any thoughts/ideas? TIA
  19. i use ez soy so here's my list: i'll second the caramel cinnamon latte. that is to die for!!! and the chestnuts and brown sugar. i figured that one to be too light because i've tried it from somewhere else and couldn't smell it, well, i'm glad i got this as a free sample!!! It was AWESOME and is safe in b&b-i just ordered a big bottle. I love cranberry orange which would be a good fall winter scent-she is coming out with a "spicy" version of that too-but I have not tried it yet. i will next time though. i do have a sample of the christmas wish-y one, but since i hate anything with pine in it... yuck. but, it is not overly pine.... i have not put it into anything so i can't even tell you how it throws.. you can smell the cookie scent to it... she also has one called snowflake that is coming-it is like peppermint but better-i'll let you know when i get that one... cinnamon crunch cake would also be a good "holiday" one... frost bite is a good chocolate mint... macadamia nut cake is good too!! it is very similar to a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie i order from elsewhere for "fall" scents her pumpkin spice is awsome, and for a b&b application, her pumpkin vanilla cream is awesome. i have not tried that in a candle yet though... spiced apple pecan is also yummy. and is b&b safe.. wish i could help you with the others on your list. Becky has some great oils and if i could order one of every scent (except the pine smells) i'd be in heaven. lol... i don't think you'll be disappointed with anything you order from there. Heather
  20. I use soy and love JS fo's. I love the fact that most of her scents are b&b safe-even cinnamon type ones you wouldn't expect to be safe... Cranberry Orange is awesome-and is b&b safe. good fall scent but also year round. i love cinnamon caramel latte-but is not b&b safe Frost Bite is a good chocolate/mint combo-like a peppermint patty. Spiced apple pecan is good in b&b-haven't tried it in wax yet though. Her cinnamon crunch cake is delicious and is b&b safe.. It's not a fall/winter scent but i love plum crazee and also diva... the plum crazee almost smells like a grape to me, the diva is a nice fruity blend. oh, i'm sure there's tons more-i'm just getting started testing!! edited to add that i don't know about her dupes because i'm not a perfumey type person. If you really want to know what people think of certain fragrances i suggest going to her message board-there is a place where each fragrance can be reviewed by customers, and also a spot where the best sellers are listed... that really helps me when i'm ready to order. Heather
  21. found this link from brambleberry's website... http://soap-queen.blogspot.com/2007/06/bath-bomb-cupcakes-instructions.html
  22. all good info to know. i can see what is missing. curiousity got the best of me, so i tried to warm up a bar of soap i had-didn't smell good anyways-it's way too dry, like i was cooking it. it's just a "bumpy" soap not smooth... like was posted. sooo, does anyone know how to make a melt & pour base? I see what is in them, but don't know amounts. or is this a prized secret between companies? because if i can have my mom make the base for me, i would. Thanks!!!
  23. what does m&p have that makes it different then? i guess i don't really understand what makes m&p different.... is there something added to it that makes it more "smooth" when you warm it up. and is there a recipe of how i could have her make m&p type soap for me? sorry for all the questions. the soaping world is new to me. i'd love to be able to do cp soap-but, i have 2 boys, a cat, a dog, and a daycare-so, that is NOT an option for me right now. Thanks.
  24. My mother is making her own soap using cp method. i live 300 miles from her but would like to be able to add wonderful soaps to my line. But, i don't really want to be stuck with a whole batch of soap at a time, or pay her to ship them to me. she will be making soap for her own selling too-so she can do a whole batch of soap for her own sales. I would like to have her be able to make an unscented/uncolored batch of handmade soap, take it home and then melt and add my fragrance oil/color/etc. and pour into individual soap molds whenever i needed to. This would cut the cost of shipping the m&p bases to me, plus give her some extra income too. i've ordered m&p bases and don't have a problem with them, but i would like to be able to have specific ingredients added that m&p might not offer. Does anyone see a problem with "melting" cp soap, just like you would a m&p soap? it would be "cured" for the appropriate 3-4 weeks before i would even melt it. and if i were to do this, how would i melt it? i used the microwave on low heat for the m&p and it worked just fine. Thanks for any advice. :highfive:
  25. not checked for availability, but here's my ideas... K.D.'s Indulgent Essentials Pure Indulgent Essentials by Kat (the first part would be abbreviated PIE-that was not on purpose....) Passionate Essentials oops, that sounds a little too romantic.....hehehe... Wild Indulgences ok, that is a little too "spicy" too... Pure Serenity - this website is NOT taken, & a search didn't come up with that much.... pure serenity to me gives the idea that you would sell products to make a nice relaxing feeling-which is what bath products, candles, etc. do for most women. i know it does for me. you could even go so far as to have a "pure serenity" line of relaxing type products. my biz name is Dakota Candleworks and i am selling more than candles but i think it still works. I have another name idea i like better right now, but unless i open a store front, i won't change it. Good luck in what ever you decide. it is definately a personal choice, but needs to be something a customer will see the name and associate it with the kind of business you do. Heather
