  1. the second recipe looks nice , But hardness is not listed so I went to calc and comes out at 43...seems nice- give them a go First recipe is missing something I think percentages are not adding up to 100% and I was a bit concerned about th amount of sao. I have never used it in soap so not sure if it is associated with DOS
  2. Glad scrub is working for you Sorry 'bout the confusion with the percentages, I was havin a bad math day You can use any oil that suits you skin. More moisturizing , you could use olive, I personally love my jojoba. Have fun
  3. I just went to soapcalc9.com and your hardenss is a 28 which would be tooo soft. Also, too much canola can cause DOS (dreaded orange spots) so I refigured a bit for you adding in some lard and shifting around your soft oils. coconut 25% castor 5% canola 10% soybean 10% rbo 10% lard 35% shea 5% 42 hardness 17 cleansing 53 conditioning 22 bubbly lather 29 creamy lather iodine 65 ins 145 Hope you don't mind my reconfiguting your whole recipe? There is a tab at soapcal9- soap qualities and a mock recipe and will give you the range that you should think about when creating a recipe. http://www.soapcalc.com/soapqualities.asp If you click back to soapcalc9 tab you can select oils from list and it will give you qualities on the left. at the right you can put in percentages of each oil you choose. Have a look around. Oh forgot, I am no expert but have made a few successful batches.
  4. Thanks kimberly, I did have an issue with ricing and did not think to stick blend as i was just stirring in additives and had already traced with stick blender... i think sometimes my brain shuts down when I am in a panic ...Don't know why I didn't stick blend that fo in. I will stick blend fo in next time!!!
  5. Mine was also a honey batch with oatmeal i rebatched and it turned out fine...but I ended up with less soap? It is still too soft to use , but it did cut better this time. I think this will need a few weeks to harden up
  6. well maybe because the cleansing and conditoning numbers are more what i need to look at 17 -55 first 19-50 second I am revising the first batch to make it slightly harder but want to keep it just as conditioning i think this might do coconut 25% castor 5% cocoa b 5% ( was mango) palm 15% lard 15% olive 35% ( was combo olive , sunflower) this give me h 42 ( up 2) cl 17 con 54 (down 1) bbl 22 crm l 28 ( up 1) iodine 54 ins 158 Hubby likes original recipe but others do not like how it melts quickly in the shower Second batch is a hard bar and cures much faster but is less conditioning I think with the addition of palm and switching out mango for cocobutter will be slightly harder and close in conditioning.
  7. One batch of soap has 22 bubbly & 27 creamy lath and is made with castor coconut lard olive sunflower mango butter First batch seems like is is more creamy and bubbly than the second batch, but the numbers do not say that Could this be due to the lard in the first batch??? The other bubbly 25 & creamy lath 33 and made with coconut cocoa butter castor palm soybean canola Or am i going crazy?
  8. It may take you some time to perfect making soap and experimenting with different recipes to get something you can sell...I have been making soap for the past 6 mnths and have finally decided on a recipe that is just what I've been looking for, I did start with m&p soap and then decided I would like a better product and one that I created myself ... how 'bout this Someday Soap and candles me first , naturally is cute too
  9. Jami, can't wait to hear how you like this scrub. This B & b stuff is so exciting and rewarding I just made hubby some shave creamy lotion and he loves it, It took me three days of research to build a recipe that I thought would work and for him to actually use it and say it's nice, feels like all that research was worth it. only thing is I wish I could make it foamy natrually, but I think the only thing I can add to that recipe would be sls and that is not a natrual product. or I guess I could make a shaving soap but again more research Enjoy you face scrub and let me know how you like it.
  10. Check out this link. It will explain http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/candlemaking-soap-supplies/item/ckit-6 it's crystals that swell when you add warm distilled water then add fragrance use as air freshner
  11. Just had a thought as I was reading this post. could you just make these crates with wood strips from like home depot?...may be cheaper , Doesn't seem hard to staple a few slats together.
  12. These are some super suggestions, I am writing all of them down. Thinking I should try to pick a pine scent , you know for the male customers. Although my hubby loves the downyclean breeze
  13. Carrie, where do you old mill goddess? , I checked aroma heaven. Not finding it there
  14. I will be making smelly jellies for friends so far downy clean breeze and vanilla silk are the two I make. Most people put these in their car or bathroom. I am trying to figure what are good scents for car freshening and bathroom SSo If you could give me your fav scent suggestions that you would like to smell in your car or bathroom or that your customers love, it would be a great help I am ordering scents this week and just am blank as to what to pick.
  15. Dirtybirdsoaps, I just located wellington fragrance in canton, they are a wholesaler and said that I can pick order up, as I am in livonia. you can order online and prices are about the same as from ng but saving on shipping will be helpful, I will still need to order my fav fragrance from ng though ( watercress aloe) unless I can find something similar at wellington. Thansks thanks to all for support and advise
  16. All I can tell you is, I have given out a few bars of my hp soap to friends and they are in love with them and they keep coming back for more...I offer them something they cannot get at a supermarket... Quality ingredients , skin loving soap ,and my personal scents that my friends absolutly love and will not find at a supermarket..
  17. I rebatched and was quite easy to melt and I am still waiting for it to harden up , may wait to cut a few days or so. I did cut a slice but is a bit too soft still.
  18. If you are going to sell a product like lotion that has water in it , it has to be sent out to be tested ...that;s the info I have rounded up..not sure where to have this done as of yet , I will need to in the furure as I do have a friend that absolutly loves my lotion...she tried some of it one day ,,,all she could say is "make me some of that!" Looks like I am going to have to do some more research Not even sure what the cost of something like that is or that I could afford it.
  19. no do not leave honey out is is great for helping skin retain moisture and it's an antimicrobial agent and can aide in skin rejuvenation. I believe honey is the most important ingredient here.
  20. It is not lye heavy , no zap. It was in the mold all night till next afternoon. when I cut the first bar it fell apart. i am saying crumbly cause the surface looks crumbly not smooth where it is breaking apart. This is the second morning and it is still falling apart when I cut . I rebatched the first slice that fell apart and smooshed it into a single mold and it seems ok but I do not have to cut it so I assume it will harden up ok.
  21. I made a batch of soap hp when I cut it , it's soft and falls apart Should I let it set another day and see if it is better? it is supposed to be a mild oo soap with caster, palm, lard, olive, cocoabutter Two bars i poured in another mold seem fine ( same Batch), but the 2 lb log is crumbling on me. Not sure what to do.
  22. Thanks Carrie , i will check kroger or costco this week
  23. I am thinking that sounds like alot, I checked mms recipes and most have 1oz for various batch sizes. but may be I will try a batch with more fo.
  24. let me know how you like it , I totally love it cause my skin has never been clearer just a note here: I put this face scrub in a squeeze bottle with a flip top I bought at walgreens, its a 3oz bottle so I bought a few...I also used a all natrual liquid soap this time and still turned out the same as with shower gel I also used 4 tbls of that liquid soap to make it a smidge thinner. i think I added more ewax also I hope this isn't too confusing
  25. you are so right m&p and homemade soap prices are more than grocery stor soap I suppose you would be offering a better quality product is whay people pay more
