  1. Sherry, this is what I would do I have not done this ever but... I would have a thousand samples - You are saying 500 will attent, I guess i figure more is better and I would make them the size of those little hotel soaps package them with a business card and also soap ingredients etc. could be wrapped in plastic wrap and a sticker label Or use brown paper bag cut into cigarband and sticker label. make sure to include a business card or contact info somewhere. May be others more experienced here than me that could advise.
  2. New recipe I am going to try I posted this in soap making as a remake of darwins but have changed the numbers and as you can see it is not even close to Darwins. Can't help myself from playing with that soap calc 40% coconut 10% soybean 10% canola 30% palm 10% castor This is going to be my rugged bar for the dirty man or woman LOL Scent will be some tree or something like that. Throw in some tree bark and raw meat a little saw dust and call it a day.... ...My son was asking for a more manly soap...I think this covers it
  3. I would try both with same amount of scrubby and try another batch with more, not sure on how it would feel using a harder bar as I haven't tried adding scrubbies to my soap yet. Just experiment and see what happens.
  4. I reconfigured the whole darn recipe cause I don't have pko or shea or grapeseed I think I am going to have to rename it cause it is totally different here is what I have for now as a new recipe 37% coconut 11% caster 12% canola 30% palm 10% crisco hard 48 cle 25 cond 47 bub l 35 crml 32 iodine52 ins 168 I know not even close to Darwins but I will try this and let you know how it turns out
  5. I think its super , That is how it all starts, one person tells someone and so on I have only made two batches and the people I have given soap to have bought all of the soap I had and now are asking me to have a home party to sell soap and candles and have suggested to offer gift baskets and gift wrapping as an option for some people, so now I am scrambling to figure how to package soap candle and tart melts in an attractive gift pack? One of my customers has told me , "make lots and lots of soap n call me and Ill have a cash and carry party!!!!!!! Wow!! I am so Excited, only thing is I need money to get it all done, But I think by september I should be ready.
  6. lindacolo, On the soap calc where it says water at % of oils, you use what %?
  7. What To superfat at, 5%? Are there any problems with dos? and also doing hp is water discount at 38% or lower? Darwins recipe 10% castor 20% coconut 30% pko 20% grapeseed 20% shea Im thinking of subbing grapeseed for something I have on hand( soybean, canola)
  8. I have not used oo cause I dislike the smell and rbo I would have to order online and I wanted to use oils I could get locally, but If it means less lather I may have to switch. As far as white streaks- No zap , and I am sure the oils were all melted.
  9. yes I will do that, add shipping to cost of candle
  10. My objective is to keep costs down as much as possible and still have a nice bar of soap. I think next batch I will superfat at 5% instead of 7% though would like more bubbles but the creaminess is nice. I do have white streaks in the soap and think it is from cocoa butter, i did heat it for a while first at I am sure above 130 degrees I think it is pretty but -did it all mix in?
  11. Well I have certianly learned that buying in quantity is the way to go. I only have three scents at the moment that I use and cust like. I want to thank all of you for your insight and help, my eyes have been opened. Must of been having a mood swing this morning
  12. WOW!, I have sold candles and soaps and am trying to get ready for my fall sale and want to get a good price on everything eo, fo and wax but would like to be able to get them in one place. I am in the sort of beginning stages here, forgive my ignorance! Excuse me for being a newbie. I thought that is what this sight was about...helping eachother. I will not bother you again with my inexperience!
  13. try these numbers coconut 75% cocoa butter 25% I believe this is the break the rules soap. I think it is superfatted at 20% but you could adjust that for you hubby and supperfat at 5%..................................................................................................... hardness 75 clean 50 cond 17 bubble 50 creamy 24 Just a thought I'd give it a go, maybe a small batch

  20. For making bar soap i get my lye in the drain cleaner section of ace or aco hardware store it says 100% lye on the container i paid a couple dollars for I think 10 oz.Before you plundge into making soap I would suggest millers soap site http://www.millersoap.com/There is alot of great info there for beginners...I strongly suggest reading all you can before you start making soap. Most importantly is safety when using lye!
  21. I am in michigan and it seems that the fragrance is what killing me at 6.00 for 2oz so that right there is 6.00 plus shipping for 4 candles1.50 x 3 = 4.50 just for frag
