  1. Hi all I beleive fragranceandflavors.com is an affliate of WSP. Anyway their site says if you order more than 50 dollars worth of stuff, you get free shipping. I've read so much about WSP's high shipping rates, that I thought some might benefit from this. Seems like this site is just for WSP's fragrance and flavor oils, hence the name:grin2: . I can't order any more FOs because I just ordered a bunch from MMS last night.:embarasse Anyway, let us know what fab fragrances and flavors you got with free shipping!!!
  2. Simply gorgeous! Making me want to try soaping!
  3. Thank you ladies so much for your replies!!! As I said, this was my first attempt at using the MMS oil-based colors, and looks like (from your reponses) that I didn't do to badly.
  4. For those of you who make products containing shea or other nut oils, do you use a warning label? I'm about to give out some of my products as samples, and want to make sure that my product is properly labeled per FDA regs. I've got everything else down, so far...
  5. I love the soap! It looks like those old time Brach candies - the ones that were coconut with the brown, white, pink layers. I am not a soap maker, but these pics make me wish I were.
  6. Hi all: I tried the colors from MMS and this is what I got. Of course, I neglected to write exactly how many drops I used, but since I use unrefined shea, and the color of the shea varies, that doesn't matter much. It's scented strawberry also.
  7. Thanks so much. I will have to try Peak's - I've read that they have great scents.
  8. Hi all: I am was wondering where you got the best strong scents. I purchased some from FNWL and I found that I am using at least 1 oz (or more) to get a strong scent in my shea (I use 1 lb). Maybe it's my nose, but I don't think the shea smells strong enough (it is the mango kiwi FO). Where do you buy your scent? Are they more concentrated than the ones from FNWL? (I know the essential oils really pop out of the shea, but then, those are a little pricey!!! ) As always, thanks in advance!
  9. I made a tinted shea using lip based colorants from MMS. I was making them for someone else, so I was light on the color. But, I will make a small batch of strawberry smoothie shea and post pics. Thanks for all your advice!
  10. I agree that it depends on where you get your shea. This is what happened to me. I whipped up some shea with some almond oil, in a Kitchen Aid Mixer. Right after I filled the jars, it was really grea9ny and I got kind of scares. But a day or so later, it wasn't grainy anymore. And I didn't even heat it! Go figure.
  11. I don't make lip balm, but I was looking on bittercreek's site and some of the flavor look great. I would like banana cream, pineapple or pina colada. I like the tropical flavors/scents.
  12. I'm whipping up shea butter recipes in my Kitchen Aid mixer and had an idea. I wanted to get a general feel about the response to a highly colored shea. For example, if I wanted to make "strawberry scented shea" would people be turned off if it was a strong shade of red...kind of like how lip balm is colored, but the color wouldn't come off on the skin. I know that most whipped shea is tinted, and I thought throwing some strong color into it would be a new twist. What do you think?
  13. Thank you! This is exactly what I was searching the internet for hours for!!! I use mostly unfined shea, which ranges in color from yellow to cream, so I will have to just experiment to get the color that I want. I read up on the powdered oxides and micas which can be dispersed in oil, but that sounds like way too much trouble. Perhaps when I really get into it, that may be a worthwhile investment, but right now, I'm taking the shortcut.
  14. Hi all, I'm totally new to the board and to making "stuff". I wanted to make a bit of whipped shea (unrefined shea with essential, fragrance, fixed oils, plus a bit of cornstarch/dryflo) but I want to color it. How could I color my shea? I've read a lot about mineral pigments, oxide colorants and micas, but am totally confused! Thanks in advance - this is a great board!
