  1. It seems as if I have searched all over for these. I can use the square, but prefer the round. Does anyone have a hot tip? I know I probably will have to purchase tops and bottoms separately. I have all ready checked with creations by Rade, Container and Packaging Supply and SKS bottle. Any leads would be helpful, thanks!!
  2. Thanks for the feedback ladies - what I could do is move the twist tie down some, so that the bag is tight against the bar. I did notice that when I was moving the bar from place to place that the paper got "smudgy". So either I'll wrap them tighter (ugh!) or look at ::::sigh::: putting them in tins, which doesn't thrill me because that can be expensive and I am strictly small time right now. But, we shall see.. Thanks! What if I packaged a round lotion bar mold (which I have) in a round tin with clear top, then put all that inside the bag with the bow? Is that way too much?
  3. I've never used it, but I would guess that it be like shea oil - the same or nearly the same properties, but it liquid form.
  4. WOW! Those look great! I like the snowman too.
  5. Hi Ladies: How do you like the packaging? Since I color my lotion bars, I wanted the customers to be able to see the product. The only thing I'm going to add is a hang tag with my business card and a white sticker on the back of the bag with the description and the ingredients. What do you think? Please, let me know the good, the bad and the ugly!!
  6. Ladies I sell mini lotion bars, 5/pack (or I am trying to). My question is, if you sell them in the cellophane bags, won't people ask you where they will store the lotion bar they are using or should I not worry about it? What have been other's experience with this? Thanks in advance -
  7. I'm not sure where you are looking, but I believe mystifyyoursenses.com carries citric acid. hope this helps
  8. I tried to shrink wrap a lotion bar. Don't ask, just go ahead and laugh! I suppose I figured that the wrap would shrink before the bar melted. Luckily I came to my senses before I had a real mess on my hands. I have no idea WHY I thought this would work - maybe because the lotion bars look so much like soap?? Duh on me! (Seriously, it's ok to laugh).
  9. Thanks for all your advice. I went ahead and used the cocoa powder and it worked:yay: . Now I don't have to sit with toothpicks and freezer paper trying to make a brown that works. Usually I ended up with gray!! Yay, cocoa powder!!! Also, I am going to read the ingredients for the mineral makeup to see what is in it exactly. Maybe I could use them to make a neutral lip balm that colors the lips. Thanks again all!!
  10. I've also seen it at Walgreens and CVS, if you can't find it at Walmart.
  11. Gee, I didn't even think of that - duh! Thanks for pointing that out Bunny!
  12. I have cocoa powder - I was just reluctant to use it because I thought I would then need a preservative, which I don't have. Do you use a preservative? My lotion bar is all oil, no water.
  13. could you use bare escentuals mineral makeup (this is the brand I have) to color lotion bars (made of oil only) ? I ask only because I have several coffee scents and am having a hard time getting the brownish color right with my mixing of colors. I was thinking mix a bit of the makeup with some oil, then mix it in with the rest of the batch. What do you think?
  14. I use a percentage of amounts, so with 3:3;3 of my shea, bw and cocoa butter, I use about about 1 oz FCO, 1 oz Coconut oil 76 and @ tsp of Dry Flo. I'm a "by feel" maker, so these amounts might not be exact. Thanks for the input!
  15. Hi All I've been messing around with a basic lotion bar recipe the 3/3/3 oz of beeswax/cocoa butter/shea worked, but the bar left a waxy feeling on the skin. So I added some FCO and 76 degree coconut oil plus some dry flo. Bar has a niiiiiiice glide (according to my guinea pig husband) but when it is used, the heat from your hand dents the bar, if you know what I mean. There is also no waxy after feeling, which is great! My question is, how firm should lotion bars be in general? When they are used should the heat of your hand dent the bar a bit? (not to the extend of mush) Or should it be firmer? I ask because I have had very little experience with lotion bars and would like to hear everyone's opinion. Thanks in advance for your help!
  16. I just wanted to let everyone know that I finally registered my domain name through Yahoo? Why now? Well, I was going to have a free website at tripod, but the discussion seemed to favor purchasing a domain name. Also, I learned (from the forum) that you could purchase a name, then flip over to the "free" website. I also learned about the wahmshoppe website, which fits right into my budget. I write all this to say to newbies that you can learn a lot here. I have learned so much in last month or so that it is unbelieveable. The testimontials, advice and opinions here are priceless! A sincere thank you to candletech and the people on this board. You have helped me so much.
  17. Here is the link to the mysterious coconut cream butter . http://store.africansheabuttercompany.com/vicocrbu.html Upon further reading, it 's just virgin coconut oil with a cute name. Thanks for all the responses - I've got the coconut oils all sorted out now.
  18. Sorry for not answering sooner - It is mostly on the top, but some of the lotion bar looks marbled with the white, if you know what I mean - It's just strange because I made a batch of about 10 sticks and only about three came out with the stuff on top. I poured and cooled them on the same way so I don't understand. When I blew the top with a hair dryer it went away. Oh well, I suppose I'll just be more careful next time - it was just weird.
  19. I have seen so many that I am confused Coconut oil Fractionated coconut oil 76 degree coconut oil Virgin coconut oil Coconut cream butter Help! I am basically looking for the semi-solid at room temp (I suspect this is the 76 degree) and the stuff used for massage oil. I know one can use the virgin coconut oil to eat and to moisturize, but this type is usually more expensive that the others. Am I even close in my defintions? Thanks all!
  20. I posted this in the Gallery - in the wrong forum, duh!Hi all, I made this lotion bar about a week ago and two days later (five days ago) it looked like this. All the bars I made (from the same batch) did not have this on top, so I'm wondering what I did wrong. Also, I melted and poured this bar. I used shea butter, beeswax (10%) and fragrance and color. Has this ever happened to anyone else? (The color of the lotion bar is a pale green) Here it is
  21. Hi Ladies: I was just making some lotion bars today, and I was wondering this - is it possible to create a recipe that can be used for lotion bars, massage bars and lip balm? What I mean is make a batch and just pour it into different containers. Of course, for this recipe you would use flavor oil instead of fragrance oil so it would be ok for use on the lips. What do you think? Pros and cons?
  22. Those scents sound wonderful. I will def. place an order with them sometime in the future. Again, thanks for your sage advice and recommendations.
  23. Has anyone used their scents in B and B? They seem to have a great selection and I've read that their scents are quite strong. Thanks in Advance!
