  1. Yes, i know exactly what you are saying. I am testing ECO wicks right now. I like the way they burn in a larger jar, but I hate the way on the 2nd burn the flames shoot up high out of the jar and it smokes a little. I wonder if there is a true self trimming wick on the market. And to answer your question. I think wicks do something vary from one supplier to the next.
  2. After trying several over the past few months, I prefer SFIC too. I buy the white and add my own goat's milk. I get it from LoneStar but they have it in the clearance section now so I am not sure if they are planning to stop selling it. I may have to find another supplier that's not too far from me.
  3. In my opinion J223 is much better than 4630.
  4. Don't you just love it when you stumble across something that works perfectly? I use that wick in my 4 oz. short squatty hex jars. And I use them to double wick my 12 oz short squatty hex jars. That wick works very well for me in those applications. I am partial to zinc wicks, but I use CD wicks sometimes too.
  5. Wow, mine are a big difference from what you all are using. I use CD 5 with that wax in votives. I get a perfect burn every time. Slow burning, good scent throw, if it hangs up a little it catches up, and it burns all the way down till the wick burns out.
  6. In my opnion J223 is better than 4630 all the way around.
  7. I use 6006 too, and I always get it from CS. I didn't realize they discontinued it because I am well stocked with about 60 lbs. Well shoot. I hate to hear that. That wax is fairly easy to cut. Great scent throw. Comparable to J223. Easy to wick. The tops need a little bit of attention as they do sink a little. The heat gun can easily fix that though. The wicks I like for 6006 are CD or Zinc. I just looked at CS. It is not discontinued. The price has gone up though.
  8. I am still watching this thread - thanks for the help. My glycerin came in today. I am going to try 1 batch with the extra glycerin, one batch without. Also I'm testing a different MP base. The first bases were SFIC. These I got today are Crafter's Choice that came from wholesale supplies plus. I have Snowdrift bases coming next week. I am testing several before I settle on one certain brand. I was wondering ... So the glycerin that's already in the soap base is what makes the lather? And by adding a tiny bit more it increases the lather? Glycerin is an oil though isn't it? I thought oils inhibit the lather. Forgive me for being so dumb. I am trying to figure this all out. Thanks again for the help. I like the idea of adding a sliver of shaving soap that someone suggested too. This reminds me of when i started making candles and knew nothing. lol

    Wax for tarts

I use 4794 too. It has a moderate melt point. Good scent throw. Takes dyes very nicely.
  10. Thank you all very much. I will buy some veggie glycerine then. I need to put in an order anyway. I appreciate your help. :smiley2:
  11. I have found there to be some noticable difference, yes. You might want to try a different type of wick in that particular candle. When all else fails, I always fall back on my zinc wicks.
  12. I meant coconut oil. Sorry about that. Thanks for your help. :smiley2:
  13. I'm using SFIC white melt & pour. I love this soap, excellent qualities, super creamy, but it needs more bubbles. How would I go about achieving this? I've tried the extra CO and that didn't really help. Thank you in advance. I'm going to search the threads, but went ahead and posted a new thread in case I can't find anything.
  14. Congrats, Ana! I'd be thrilled too! Don't let the rudeness bother you. Altough my feelings would have been hurt too. Some people become extremely emotionally involved with their craft and have high opinions of themselves. I guess some people do earn the right, but being a little more kind about it sure wouldn't hurt. I will be making M&P with additives starting this week. If it turns out great I will asbolutely be selling it in the near future - regardless if it takes a few months or a few years. if it passes the tests and is a high quality product, then so be it.
  15. PS. If there is anything I've not ordered or purchased that is a MUST have, please let me know. I will surely appreciate it! Added comment: I just thought of something else that I need that is a must have ... Alcohol and a spray bottle. Correct?
  16. I'm so excited I can hardly wait! I've purchased (and/or ordered) the following. 10 lbs. of SFIC White M&P Base Soap Cutter Pure Honey Oatmeal Shea Butter Cocoa Butter Powdered Goats Milk Vitamin E Oil A 100% natural biodegradable liquid dish soap that is dye free and purfume free for extra lather if needed. Aloe Vera Gel (already had that) Coconut Oil (already had that) I've already got tons of fragrance oils and most are skin safe. The only thing I don't have yet are the soap dyes. I take that back I do have 1 pink liquid lotion/soap dye. Also a mold. I haven't decided what i will use. I might have the hubby build me a small wooden mold that I can make small batches with for now. Wish me luck! I am so excited!! I can't wait to start playing!!
  17. Thank you all very much for your replies! You've given me ideas and a starting place. I think I like the idea of buying white and adding additives like a few of you mentioned. Then I can mess around with it till I get the desired effects. Thanks again all! You're appreciated!
  18. Bump - Anyone? OK - I'll be more specific. Goat's Milk Soap Shea Butter Soap Cocoa Butter Soap .... Etc, etc, etc. - you know ... all the different types? Which has the best lather, and best moisturizing properties? I'd rather hear some opinions before I buy. Surely there are a few people here that have tried several and have an opinion. Thanks!
  19. Vanilla Lace! Most definitely. It's a Victoria's Secret duplicate. It's a beautiful soft scent.
  20. I want to dive in and start making MP soap. A couple of quick questions if you don't mind. 1st - I cant afford to try all the different types of MP soaps to find what I am looking for. Soooo ... I know that I want to use a supplier that carries SFIC. I'm looking for a soap that has a luxurious bubbly lather and excellent moisturizing properties. And I prefer opaque over clear. Any help you could provide would be very much appreciated. I think that's the only questions I have right now. Thank you!
  21. I use the plastic shoe boxes that come with a lid from Wallyworld. I think they were a few bucks each. Very cheap and holds a lot, and can be stacked on top of each other for easy organized storage.
  22. I am finding the TL13 wicks from CS to work the best with my tea lights. They burn nicely and last several hours. I use 6006 wax.
  23. Recycling clean unused left over (scented) wax that I have sitting around in closed jars - making tea lights out of those. Also testing some ECO wicks in jar candles. Never used them before and they were recommended. Not sure what else yet.
  24. I have an order to get out tomorrow. I'll be making some Very Vanilla scented jars tonight. :-)
