  1. I wasn't gonna post this as it did not turn out well. I used my daughter's camera phone. Hopefully I can get better pics this weekend. I'm testing jars and votives. The jars are scented sugar cookie, warm vanilla sugar, lemon chiffon, home for the holidays, almond cherry, and cinnamon. The cinnamon is purple. Don't ask. lol The votives are wedding cake scented in purple and yellow. They need work. Anyway, the other colors came out well. I did 2 of each fragrance to test a CD14 and CD16 and a using CBA. Sorry for the crappy pic and I think it's probably too small! I'll get some better ones later. Stephanie
  2. I had that thought! I also wonder how some can sell candles so cheaply on EBay, soy and paraffin (sp?). Of course, I'm not to where I can buy in bulk yet, that would probably make a difference, but I don't think I could ever sell a good jar size candle for a buck. Stephanie
  3. I don't add anything and use EcoSoya PureSoy and they are not too soft. They pop right out in perfect little cubes and I can't keep up with the people who want them. My brother is bugging me now because he has people who want to place orders. Stephanie
  4. There would be the answer to why my votive broke at the 2nd layer! I did not pour 5-10 degrees hotter. It was about 20 degrees cooler. Duh! lol Thanks. I'm gonna play around with them today. I have lots of wax! Stephanie
  5. I'm not so sure this is what you're looking for but here's one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170039269807&rd=1&rd=1 and here's another http://www.rosescandles.com/electric_grubby.htm Stephanie Edited because I posted the wrong link! Geesh! lol
  6. I'll try that. I tried what the paper said for the votive mold and the votives broke where I did the repour! Go figure. Anyway, I'll try that tomorrow! Thanks! Stephanie
  7. I have a 6-cavity plastic votive mold from pourette to make the ring top votives. I'm using the KY pillar/votive blend and the self-centering wick. I'll have to look it up. Anyway, I'm getting sink holes with the wax clinging to the wick pin. Any suggestions? Thank you! Stephanie
  8. Well, I've got your skunk covered! lol My coffee FO that I used to make melts in my clamshells smells exactly like skunk, so bad that my dad took them and is going to use them as a prank on one of his co-workers! It is really that bad! There's a whole story to it I posted here a while back. I was so upset my coffee turned out so bad, but at least everyone else got a laugh out of it! lol Stephanie
  9. It is really cold down here, so bad that I refused to go put gas in my car the other night and waited until the next day because I knew it would be a little warmer in the morning! lol Honestly, though, I'm originally from Galesburg and it's usually not near as bad here as it is there! My dad and brother got snowed in and couldn't go to work last week when the storm came through. Anyway, there is a supplier in Chicago for the EcoSoya. I'm thinking New Lenox, but not positive. Yup, just looked. It's DPS/Morris Wax in New Lenox. My boyfriend's mom does sales and said she could get it for me as she is only gonna be 20 miles from there, but her sales meetings are not starting back up until January/February, so I'm ordering online. By the way, I got my 8oz square mason jars and some CD wicks and I'm gonna test these with the CBA this week. I'm gonna make some tomorrow and see how they do. Just for the heck of it, I made some clamshells with the CBA because I wanted to play with the color crystals I have and I added sugar cookie FO. Unbelievably, they pop right out of the clamshells in perfect cubes and have the most awesome scent throw! I sent one with a friend of mine earlier today to see what she thought. Well, she called later and could not get over the scent throw from it. She had it in the kitchen and said it was overtaking the living room where she had a mulberry melt in a warmer! lol Anyway, I guess it's all in the wick! We'll see. I'm gonna make them tomorrow and cure for a week. I've got a cinnamon one curing, but it needs to go a few more days before I can burn it. It's in a different jar, though. Stephanie
  10. I have worked with the PureSoy and although it gives an excellent hot throw in my melts (haven't tested in jars yet), it frosts extremely bad, even when I don't add color, if you look real close, you can see frost. That is the downside. I mistakenly ordered some EcoSoya CB Advanced and have played around with it, adding color and such, just to see what it would do and the only time I got frost was when I poured too cool into jars. Other than that, no frost, but from what I've read, it is hard to get a scent throw from the CBA. Anyway, from a tip on the board , I poured the PureSoy at a lower temp (when it was slushy in appearance) and eliminated quite a bit of the frosting, but this was without color. When I did the exact same thing with color, I got major frosting again. I have never used the GB wax, so I can't give a comparison, I can only tell you how the PureSoy has been for me. Stephanie
  11. Anyone in Illinois do this as a business? Could you pm me, I have a few questions. Thank you! Stephanie
  12. I actually thought your candles were quite cheap! (price wise) I think it all differs as to if you can buy in bulk and where you live and the market. I would love to sell mine cheap, but can't go to far as I cannot buy in bulk yet. Stephanie
  13. That is beautiful! I wish I could move on to pillars! lol I'll get there someday. Stephanie
  14. Oh, I get it. That doesn't seem to safe to me either. Stephanie
  15. What the heck is an FO ring? lol I would love to make these grubby electric candles, soon as I get a mold, but I have no idea what an FO ring is. stephanie
  16. I buy mine from KY Candle Supply. There's no supplier in my area to get them around here. Stephanie
  17. I don't add anything to my melts and I use container wax. I have not had a problem with them being too soft. They pop out in perfect little squares out of the clamshells! I think it just depends on preference but I have had no complaints yet! Stephanie
  18. I have not used EZSoy but I had been ordering EcoSoya PureSoy and used it in clamshells and have had awesome scent throws. Recently I purchased EcoSoya CB Advanced by mistake. I have gotten a hot throw in a jar candle after 5 days of curing with cinnamon bun. I have had scents that will not throw in the PureSoy. That just happens. I would keep testing and researching on here will help tremendously. Eventually you will figure out what scents throw well in the soy you use and what ones don't throw at all. Stephanie
  19. It was a 1oz sample. Now I gotta go order more! lol I really liked it! I have only ever used 1oz pp of wax and not had trouble with any being too weak. I more had trouble with some being too strong, to the point where I could cut back to 0.5oz pp. Stephanie
  20. I'm totally impressed. This is the CBA that I mistakenly ordered. I made the candles Monday and burned 2 earlier this week to test the wick and then burned the other 2 this morning. I have an awesome meltpool and I could smell the candle when I walked in the dining room from the kitchen. The candles are in the living room. I was a little worried because I didn't know if I would get a scent throw or not. I'm gonna move one of the candles to another room and test again later this afternoon. Now, I have to go order more cinnamon bun from Peak's because this was just a sample jar and I'm out! lol Anyway, I'm gonna pour 4 or 5 different scents today for testers and will let everyone know next weekend how they turn out. The only problem is, I'm impatient and don't want to wait a week! lol Stephanie
  21. I ordered Cinnamon from BCS and it smells like red hots! I haven't made anything with it yet, but am going to do some melts as soon as I get my wax. I'll let ya know how it throws. Hopefully someone else that has actually burned some can give ya some help! Stephanie
  22. Thanks! Wow, they have a lot of jars! lol Stephanie
  23. That is really pretty! You guys are all gonna get me in trouble! lol I'm already addicted to the candles and have supplies throughout my dining room and then I keep coming here looking at all the pretty soaps and stuff and I want to do those, too! Maybe next summer! All the pics I've surfed through have been amazing and all of you do a great job! Stephanie
  24. Wow, they do! Thanks so much. I'll probably just order a couple of cases for now but Louisville is only 4 hours away and I don't mind the trip, plus I could go visit my old boss! Thanks again Candlebuddy! Stephanie
  25. No they don't have polka dotted tops. I looked at the ones our walmart sells and they don't carry the 8oz square ones. I've found places online to order them, but thought I would try to find them locally first. It's looking like I'm gonna have to order! Stephanie
