  1. I use no FO. I have tried 4630 alone and still get mushrooms. Someone recommended a cotton based wick.
  2. Most of my containers range between 2" to 2.5". I have a few that are larger. I may have made a mistake on the 4625 because one of the two waxes I use is dead soft and can be molded by hand. I need to check on that.
  3. I have gone to making candles in glass for my own use but I have had severe problems with wicks choking with mushrooming or having sooting problems from too high a flame. I use Parafin wax, either 1343A or 4625, or a mix of the 2. I have tried wire core wick and HTP wick in various sizes. My best results were with the smaller wire core wicks with the wires removed, but that gives me trouble when the wax cools and contracts. I even tried paper core wick which was a total disaster. I need help. Phil Brown
  4. I made a mistake. It's not 4625, it's 4630A
  5. I always pour a solid candle and when cooled I drill the candle to install the wick. Sometimes I need to do a mini repour to clean up the top.
  6. I always have the unusual, strange stuff.
  7. They look good to me. Much better than mine.
  8. Has anyone had a candle develop a double mushroom? I have never seen this before. Wax is a mix of 1343A and 4625. Wick is a 34-24-24Z wire core.
  9. A while back, I made 2 candles for a woman that worked in a thrift shop. In return she gave me a load of partially burned candles burned by people that knew nothing about how to burn a candle. I am big on recycling wax rather than allowing it to be dumped. I am nearing the end of the load and have found that some of the wax was garbage while some was very good. All this was almost a waste of time from a learning aspect. Total inconsistency. I have found some strange things in some candles. One is pictured here. The tab is not at the bottom of the wick. Is this intentional, or a screwup?
  10. Who sells the large tealight cups?
  11. On occasion I have used the largest size wick I have and it proves to be not enough. It starts like a torch, then later chokes.
  12. Here is a pic of one of the recycled candle. This one is burning with a small wick and I believe would work with a larger wick. Some others are not so simple.
  13. This would work, but I would use the equivalent size glass container. I would have to decide how large a wick to use.
  14. Sounds good, but I don't do tarts.
  15. I keep coming up with stubs of candles, some mutilated by those who don't have a clue how to burn a candle. some are high quality candles, some are junk. I try to recast them so they won't go to waste. Main problem is wicking them is pure guesswork, When it doesn't work, it's a big problem. No, I don't sell these so it is my problem and nobody elses. Does anyone else recycle wax? Any thoughts?
  16. American Science & Surplus strikes again. Digital Thermometer. http://www.sciplus.com/category.cfm/subsection/4/start/100/maxrows/11/srch.fp/1
  17. How are the mints for strength? She loved the Cinnimon.
  18. Person is happy with the redone candle, I should have known better than to try that with an unknown wax. Bad move.
  19. I picked up a block of unknown wax and tested a small chunk. It burned beautifully. I made a small pillar with a little red dye and a max charge of cinnamon and no additives. Both the F.O. and the dye separated out. I remelted the pillar and added some UA. It turned out good but I haven't burned it yet.
  20. Right, but I'm trying to branch out with scented and colored candles. I use an absolute minimum of color and maximum F.O. with paraffin only.
  21. I have someone that complains they can't get candles strong enough for them, so I maxed out a small pillar with cinnamon. What other F.O.'s are very strong?
  22. Murray, could you post a pic of a good example?
  23. If you believe in your product, it really shouldn't be a problem.
