  1. Are you going to print on them? Or do you just need blank cardstock at a business card size? If you're not going to print on them and just need business card size cardstock, go to your local copy/print shop and have them cut down some cardstock for you. You can get 12 bc out of a sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper. Or check to see if you have an Xpdex or something similar in your area.
  2. How about a graduated price scale? 1 for $7.50 - almost 275% markup 2 for $13.75 (save $1.25 on 2nd candle) - 250% markup 3 for $18.50 (save $1.25 on 2nd candle and $2.75 on 3rd candle) - almost 225% markup This might market better and encourage your mom's "cheap" co-workers to spend a little more.
  3. Don't know if its been suggested yet but what about Beautiful Blossoms. It could be taken two ways; one to mean the beautiful blossoms of a flower or that the beauty in a women blooms and blossoms. That might be something to work with in a tag line. Gook luck coming up with one.
  4. It seems to me they are just opening themselves up for lawsuits. 1. 100% all natural stabilized soy wax can any flamable product ever truely be 100% stabilized 2. Our Intelliscent Fragrances are wonderful! They are healthy when burned cringe - I truely think this is a big no, no. They are no health benefits to burning candles 3. Pure Integrity Soy Candles burn beautifully even down to the very bottom! You are not supposed to burn a candle down to the very bottom! Here they encourage their customers to do just that. Now on to the facts she states of the larger companies, very much grounds for a lawsuit. 1. Most candle manufacturers use only the standard scent load capacity, creating average-scented candles. Some of the time candle makers will pour scent over the top after the candles have completely solidified. This way when you smell them they smell great but when you light it, the candle has little to no scent or perhaps the scent slowly lingers out. If I were a large company, I would want to know how she got a hold of our "trade secrets" becasue that sounds like what she is passing off. She is also accusing large companies of poor business practices and product deception. 2. Believe it or not some of your national known candle companies are using the wrong size wicks! Can you believe it!!! Again, a trade secrets thing and passing her opinion off as stated fact. And finally the truth in advertising lawsuit Pretty much everything she says can be contested. I say this because most of what she claims is measurable, such as the strongest scented or out-perform all other candles. Now if a lawsuit is filed and it is found that her claims are correct then she can continue using them. If it is found that her candles are just equal to other candles she'll have to stop. Anytime someone makes claims of being the best or the -est (strongest, longest, fastest) at something they are open for TIA lawsuits. When they make these statements, they make their product measurable. Their product is above everyone elses and can be tested to uphold that fact. And lawsuits are filed on these statements. Several years ago, Papa John's Pizza's advertising statement was that they used the freshest ingredients (sp?). Lawsuit was filed and it was found that they did not use the freshest ingredients; theirs were as fresh as other companies but not more so. Therefore we now have "Better Ingredients, Better Pizza" which is acceptable because they probably do use better ingredients than some companies but not all. All that being said, who's going to file the lawsuit? That's the only way to get anything changed. But it would be interesting to see how Yankee Candle's legal department would react.
  5. Try this link for help. There are step by step instructions. His sections on photo adjustment are really good. He tells you what you should do, what you should not do and why. Good luck. http://www.sketchpad.net/photoshp.htm
  6. I used to work for a printing company and we did label orders all the time. In the long run ordering them will be cheaper. Label companies are equipped to do just that make labels, so they can do it cheaper than a home computer or copy machine. But a word of caution. Be prepared to spend quite a bit up front to get the labels in all the different sizes you need. Also make sure you are 100% sure you like the design becasue most label companies require minimum orders of 250 or 500 labels per design. I am probably going to make a lot of people mad here, but I think you should know. The retail markup by most label companies is 100% or close to it depending on how the printing company handles shipping. Where I worked we doubled what the labels cost us then added shipping cost we were charged and that's what the customer paid. If you want to order labels, ask if the printing co. will give you a 15% discount or something. Or if you order a certain amount, if they'll give you a discount. Most places will if you're a repeat customer. Now if you choose to make your labels at home, try to buy the labels from a paper retailer such as Xpedx. They supply to printing companies and some locations have a retail outlet as well. I'm really lucky because I can get this stuff at cost. Here in Texas my ex-boss let me purcahse (from Xpedx) 100 full sheet glossy labels, using his account, and they only cost me $14.00. Office Max and Office Depot want that much for only 25 sheets! Good luck deciding!
  7. Thanks for the idea. Do you know where I can get these without the oil already included? I've surfed a little on the net and the ones I have found already have the oil and are really expensive (like $25 - $60). And the one place I found where I can buy the things in pieces wants $7.50 for 2oz of diffuser oil. Are there any cheaper places to get oil and what not? From what I've read I do have to use diffuser oil and not fragrance oil right? Is there some way I can make my own diffuser oil using fragrance oil? Any help is appreciated.
  8. I was sitting around talking to my husband about wanting to make some sachets. He suggested something I think is crazy but wanted to see what others had to input. He wondered if there was some way to refill the oil for the glade plug ins with a scent we actually like. I love using them but don't care to much for the scents they have available. Has anyone ever tried this or do they know of something out there that's similar to the plug in scents that you don't have to keep an eye on? Thanks, Apryl
  9. I used to do layout and design for a living, and this is the part I always hated. Choosing is so hard. My suggestion is to go with your first instinct and gut reaction as to the one you like. You are the one who is going to have to live with it for a long time. That said, if I had to choose, I like the last one. The third one is great, but I think it's a little too edgy for a spa line. And the last one is just a little more balanced than the third IMO. Good luck picking one!
  10. If I've got my abbreviations correct (new here), this would be wax from Candles and Supplies correct? If I'm right in my assumptions, from the other posts going around, you certainly won't get the answers your looking for. It's too bad you can't be there when they test their wax in stock and your candle. That may be the only way to learn the real truth. Hope things go better for you.
  11. Thanks for all your help and welcomes. AngelaVA I checked with the candle cauldron and they say to use Baking Soda or 20 Mule Team Borax. I'm going to make some as soon as I can get some of the fragrance oil. You also mentioned corn cob sachets. How do I make those? Thanks again, Apryl
  12. Hello, I am a long time browser and actually posted a few times years ago. But I was never able to make the investment to start candle making. Still don't have the investment to make. Anyway, the reason for this post: I recently got married and in one of my gifts I was given an Orange Clove sachet from Kirkland's and I LOVE it. I want my whole house to smell like it. Unfortunatly, I don't have the money to spend on a bunch of packets, and I think I can make something similar without spending so much money. What could I do (besides candles) that would make my house smell so wonderful? Where should I get the fragrance from? On the back of the packet it says to put is scent in my vacuum cleaner bag to distribute it throughout the house. How would I make something like this on my own? Also they say to add the contents to a simmering pot. What is a simmering pot? How do they work? And again can I make something similar? Thanks in advance for your help and sorry if this is not posted in the correct place. Thanks, Apryl
