  1. I vote Tristate. It is blow you out of the house strong, and smells amazing. I've smelled Candle Science, and, it's very strong as well, but, in my opinion, doesn't quite smell as good as Tristate's, and isn't quite AS strong throwing.
  2. I had this idea. How about, we build a list of the most common fragrance oils on the market (Cotton Candy, Vanilla, Med. Fig, Creme Brulee, etc), and your favorite suppliers of each. I would be glad to tally the voting, for purposes of building a comprehensive list. Anyone else think this might be a good idea? In other words, we would start a thread titled "Your favorite Cotton Candy" and people would chime in. I would then tally the votes, and, we could build a list this way.
  3. Thank you so much for all your help. I will be pouring some testers today, with some of my more difficult oils, to see if the HTPS and/or the CD's can keep up. Do you know by any chance if either the CD's or the HTP's tend to smoke any less than Ecos, which DO tend to smoke a bit?
  4. The Premiers clog as well. I tried quite a few, and, come to think of it, the LX's were one of the ones that I tried, that clogged pretty easily. Any ideas for which HTP and CD would correspond to Eco .5 and Eco 1, more or less?
  5. How about LX's? I initially chose Ecos when I was testing a while back because they burned certain resin based oils that other wicks could not burn (they would clog).
  6. I'm using Ecos presently and was wondering which wicks would be most like them? I ask because I want more options in terms of sizes. Some of the Eco's are spaced very far apart (BIG difference for example, between Eco 0.5 and Eco 1).
  7. are you allowed to get 3 or 4 1 ouncers of the same scent?
  8. I'm in Miami, FL, so we don't have that problem. LOL. And, I know for sure it's the stickum, cause, that is the ONLY variable that has changed.
  9. Anyone know? I used to always get them from Greenleaf, and was VERY happy. Then I reordered a couple of weeks ago, and, these seemed different (they were thicker, and much less "sticky"). I NEVER, EVER, EVER had problems with them coming undone, and now with this new batch of stickums, I can't get them to stay. I even tried lowering my pouring temp (J-50 wax), from 160, to around 135, and that was no help. Any suggestions?
  10. By "high end" she is likely talking about Votivo versus Yankee. There is such a thing as a "high end" or "upscale" candle line (Votivo, Trapp, Archipelago, Diptyque, etc), as opposed to more main stream, less expensive, less complex lines (Yankee, Tyler, Beanpod, etc etc etc).
  11. Out of curiosity, do we know for sure that it is the Shaw Mudge oil that Votivo uses? I ask because I have a Votivo Red Currant in front of me (an actual one) and I have a candle poured using the shaw mudge oil bought from Scent Works, and, while they are VERY close, they are not quite identical. I'm asking cause I've read this same thing (the fact that they use the Shaw Mudge oil), several different times on this board. I know that on the Scent Works site, they state it's the Votivo oil, but, are we sure on this, cause I'm 95% sure that there is a very slight difference.
  12. That's odd. Why would they get intermingled, if they were kept with the tops on?
  13. Just curious, Jen, then, since you acknowledge that this is simply a matter of opinion, what you meant when you said "You are really missing out" despite knowing full well that I had actually tested, and in fact discarded, the very wax you felt I was missing out on. Since you seem to not be getting the point, I'm curious as to what you meant. Trust me, I have about 15 pounds left of that wax, so I don't really need it, but thanks for the offer.
  14. I totally get your point, but, clearly you don't get mine. I formed my opinion, and yet because you felt the 4627 threw better (that is YOUR opinion, and far from being fact), you felt that I was "missing out." My point is, in my mind, I'm not missing out, because I tested both of them (and many others) and the J-50 won, hands down. You really should give the J-50 another shot. Poor thing. You are really missing out, you know? I'm not missing out on using the 4627 any more than you are missing out on using the J-50. Just as you could use this poll to back up your opinion, I could use the previously cited survey to back up mine, but, in the end, they are both matters of opinion. Nobody here cares what you or I think. Each and every person should test for themself.
  15. To me, it just wasn't really all that close in juding the hot throw. J50 kind of blew everything else away (including 223 and the 4627). I agree completely with the survey: http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17483&highlight=standard+deviation
  16. These results are pretty neat. I'm wondering if most people that voted have tried at least three or four of these options, or if they are simply going with what they use. I only ask that, because I've tested quite a few waxes, including the 4627, J223, J50, Greenleaf's blend, and some others, and, to me, it's not really even that close in terms of hot throw. J-50 blows every wax I've ever tried, right out of the water. Again, I emphasize that this is hot throw I'm talking about. 4627 wins the cold throw race, but, in terms of hot throw, I never found it to really be all that close.
  17. There is someone selling this VERY cheaply on the classified. I'm curious as to everyone's opinions on this wax. Anyone who has sampled it, please let me know your thoughts on this wax. I want to order a sample but am hesitant to order an entire case of it, but at the same time don't want to miss out on an opportunity at this price, assuming it's a good wax.
  18. I couldn't agree more. Overwhelmingly, scent throw is the most important thing in a customer's mind when judging a candle, followed by burn properties. Furthermore, a sample size of 30 people, in one part of the country (one single office, in fact) is so statistically insignificant that it's not really even worth discussing. I'll go a step further and say that, if 10% of the small number of people polled didn't understand the question, then you might as well throw it out as completely meaningless.
  19. What is your favorite Container Blend in terms of Hot Throw?
