  1. I tested both the 4627 and 4630 extensively and found that the 4630 just didn't give off anywhere near the hot throw that 4627 did. They just weren't comparable to me, to be honest.
  2. Hello all. Just ordered a sample slab from Candle Science and am awaiting its arrival. I tried doing a search on here but didn't find much with regards to opinions on this wax. How does the hot throw compare with, for example, the J series waxes and the 4627 CB? I like the hot throw of the 4627 but would like something easier to work with. I would love to hear from someone who has used this and other waxes, and their feelings on how this one compares. Thanks to all.
  3. Hey folks, I had a question. I was looking for your opinions on what an adequate amount of "hang up" is, after a 3 to 3.5 hour burn. My jar is a shade OVER 3 inches. I would say around 3 1/4" or so. I know that hangup generally catches up, however, what is acceptable? Is it about a 1/2" all the way around? Is it less? More? The problem that I'm facing is that in my opinion, it's better to wick properly for the BOTTOM part of the jar, where the melt pool reaches the edges much quicker, than it is for the top part, so, if I were to select a wick size which reached the edges, at the TOP in 3 hours or so, I believe that, in the bottom half of the jar, it would reach the edges far too quickly and, it would be, in essence, over wicked, causing problems like soot, and the jar getting too hot, etc. I know hangup tends to catch up, however, what are your opinions on the matter? How much hang up is ideal? Your opinions on here are greatly respected and, I thank you all in advance for your input.
  4. There are quite a few out there, but, does anyone have personal experience with any of them? Looking to pour candles, and looking for the truest of the dupes.
  5. That's some fascinating reading. Out of curiosity, do you know which waxes in particular, were tested? They mention a fully refined paraffin, and, of course, the king of the test was Blend B, which is described as a Soft Petroleum Wax Based Container Blend. Of the two waxes that you mentioned previously, which is the one most like Blend B?
  6. I know they soot. In fact, they soot horrendously, however, they do throw very well (whether we like to admit it or not). By the way, there is a reason that they are the best selling candle brand in the world (by a long margin), and, part of it is marketing (a large part) however, part of it is also the fact that they are candles that do throw very well. I can't speak for their pillars, but, their jar candles do throw.
  7. Top, thanks for the great info, as usual. I tried googling the IGI Scent Throw Comparo test that you mentioned and couldn't find anything. Would you happen to know where it might be found?
  8. Top, do those waxes tend to throw scent nicely? I ask because, while there are MUCH better candles out there in terms of their burn qualities, Yankee candles do tend to throw scent pretty well, if not very well.
  9. Sounds very promising. I don't see pricing information on the website. I'm guessing it's not yet for sale? Any ideas when pricing information will be posted on the website and when it will be available for sale? It's a shame, but, some good waxes aren't given a chance because of pricing. Alot will obviously depend on that, I would imagine.
  10. As a new member of this board I would ask a moderator to step in here. I think this person is way out of line in her insults. I never insulted her and this is totally uncalled for. Your sarcasm isn't really needed either. Obviously, none of them would "spill the beans" which is why the question was posted here. If it were as easy as asking, there would have been no purpose to my question on here. That doesn't make it a trade secret. Your comparing a supplier to a trademarked name or formulation also doesn't apply as they are completely and utterly two different things. I don't think I've done anything to bring on this barage of insults or the rather nasty attitude. I will, again, as a moderator to step in here. I've been lurking for close to a year, and now that I decided to "take the plunge" someone decides to take out her frustrations (which seem plentiful) on me. Just not fair, and not right.
  11. Wow. I log on and to my surprise, my thread has a bunch of responses...just not really what I had in mind. I sure didn't mean for this to get out of hand, although I will say, Bugtussle, that I never requested any formulations or anything which would be considered a trademarked or copywritten or trade secret type of thing. I'm not sure why you mistook me to mean that. There is no such thing as a trade secret supplier, if you ask me. Suppliers are fair game for anyone who can afford to purchase in those quantities, and has the required documents (be it business license, or federal tax identification number, or the like) so I do have to disagree with your trade secret comment. It's pretty apparent that formulations would be trade secrets but that isn't really what I was asking though.
  12. There's another thread about the actual suppliers, and, I know that Candlescience, BCN, MC, and some others, get their fragrance oils, at least partly, from Belle Aire, but, it would be interesting to know, for those chandlers who could afford to buy in larger (usually 25+ pound per fragrance) quantities, where these folks get their oils.
  13. I would be interested in possibly buying, in bulk, from some of the big manufacturers. Does anyone know who the "big boys" (Peak, BCN, NG, GL, etc) buy from? In doing some research, I've found: Lebermuth Creative Fragrances Royal Aromatics Belle-Aire IFT Who am I missing? Any "industry insight" here would probably help alot of people out. What are the higher caliber, higher end oils?
  14. First of all, I want to thank everyone on here for their absolutely wonderful contributions to the art of candlemaking. I have been lurking for months, just soaking up all the information that you folks have to offer. Now, on to my question. I'm considering sampling the above mentioned Wax, and was wondering, for those of you with experience with this wax, how it compared, in terms of hot throw, to some of the better throwing paraffin waxes on the market. In my opinion there is no comparison between a good paraffin and a good soy, in terms of scent throw, with paraffin being the clear cut winner, however, I'm strongly considering this wax, if only for testing purposes. I would love to hear some opinions, be they good or bad, regarding this wax, and, in terms of scent throw, how it compares to a strong throwing paraffin. Jane
