  1. I use GL 70/30 and I just got their Sugared Plums. One of my testers said she burned it for hours and it filled her house with scent and she loved it! I haven't burned one yet but it smells great cold. Its a nice, kinda' sweet smell. HTH
  2. You people that are getting the wet spots, do you ever use the heat gun to get rid of them? I have done that and a bunch of tiny bubbles (and some not so tiny) come to the top. Like air bubbles, is that normal or is that what could be causing the problem? I think it was Top who said not to heat gun the wet spots. But I have and they go away and then come back!
  3. What wax are you using? I poured cooler with J50, but this GL 70/30 everyone says to pour hotter....175 I like the idea of that box!
  4. I get mushrooms from zinc wicks. A friend of mine was burning one of my candles, for a long period of time and asked me why her candle had testicles? Does that help explain what mushrooms look like?
  5. I could live with wet spots, and I do check out the ones in stores. But I'm talking major ugly candle! Like half the jar is adhered and half is not at all. Or great big dips and valley looking spots. I can't even explain. I would be happy to have a few wet spots, trust me! But when you feel ashamed for someone to see your candle, well you got a problem
  6. Welcome to the board and the world of candle making. If it makes you feel any better, I can cry right along with you! I'm having problems myself lately, with horrible wet spots. I can't help you with your problem, but sometimes it feels a little better when you know your not alone! Good luck and keep trying....one day things will just go right.
  7. I don't really know where the one perfect candle was or how it turned out perfect. But I'm guessing that the room is to cold. Since I tried everything else. The only heat in there is from a port. heater. And its cold here in Ohio. I'm working on getting a gas propane heater put in there. But I'm gonna try getting a styrofoam cooler and putting it over top of the cooling candles and see if that helps. Thanks for all your help! I'll let you know if that helps.
  8. I emailed GL and Brenda is going to call me to help with this. But yes....my room that I work in is a bit on the chilly side, so maybe thats the problem. But its odd that one candle came out so perfect, 1 out of 10. Go figure!
  9. I have mod podge, how much would I mix? :undecided When I do the football helmets and paint around the edge, thats where the paint is coming off. I shrink wrapped them and I think the wrapper is doing it. Always a problem.....keeps your brain working thats for sure! Thanks
  10. My candles are turning out ugly! The wax is not sticking to the jars no matter what I do, its awful. I mean, not a wet spot or two (I could live with that) but mostly not adhereing to jars at all but maybe just in one little spot. I have tried everything. I was using J50 and switched to GL 70/30 because of this problem. Now I pay more shipping and still have the same problem. Last night I made 10 candles, 2 of each scent. I did everything by the book..Used the formula for % and so on. Heres what I did..Measured 11.75oz wax, 1.4oz of sticky stuff and .84oz of FO. Some of the jars I used 1.4oz of J50 as I was told I can do by GL. I heated wax to 190, added color, liquid dye, stirred and added FO. Removed from heat and cooled to 175 and poured into heated jar (room temp) Out of 10 candles, 1 turned out perfect, not a wet spot and adhered to jar 100%. I'm even getting a little bit of frost lines on some of them. My jars are the salsa type from MSC in Columbus, 8oz. They burn fine! I heat gun them to fix them, but mostly the wet spots come back. I've tried washing jars and not washing jars, it makes no difference. When I wash them I usse hot soapy water with Dawn, I've hand dried them and air dried them. No difference! I've heated them in warm oven, no difference. Is it possible that it could be the jar? I pour slowly and steady into the jar also. But if 1 out of 10 came out perfect, what is the problem? They look so bad I wouldn't put my label on them this way. Also I notice a good bit of shrinkage. Adding sticky stuff or J50 or nothing...its all the same. I hate to spend more time and money on anything different until I know what the heck is going on here. Any advice? What can I possibly be doing wrong? Someone has to have an answer to my dilema, I hope! Or a suggestion. Why would 1 candle turn out perfect, donn't make sense to me. Sorry this was such a long post, but I just don't know where to turn anymore. TIA
  11. I love the FIREPLACE.....it smells just like a wood burning fire, like walking into a cozy cabin. And a touch of pine and I pick up a tiny bit of a citrus scent. Oh well, whatever.....I LOVE IT Sugared Plum smells great in wax, but I haven't burned it yet and Nuts & Pinecones smells good, but not to strong. Thats just in wax, not lit yet.
  12. Thanks for your help! I see what your saying also. So either way the answer is the same....I love when that happens I can see where I have been doing a few things wrong now and I can correct it. I love when that happens too. I'm going to make a chart with all the formulas so I won't have to figure it everytime, someone on here suggested that. At least with the amts. I use mostly. Once again...Thanks much!
  13. Ok, I heard this b4, what is puffy paint and where do you get it? I googled it and it comes up "how to make puffy paint", is that what you're doing? I never heard of it, I feel so stupid! But I'm learning something everyday here and I love it!
  14. I am really bad at this and I think I found an easy way, might help someone else also....IF I am right. Heres my formula: Total wax I want to use is 16oz. so I want FO @ 6% and additive @ 10%, heres what I did. 16oz x 10%= 1.6oz (additive) 16oz x 6%=.96 (FO) _________________ total fo + add. 2.56 subtracted 2.56 from 16oz wax=13.44oz wax Added--13.44+1.6+.96=16oz. CORRECT?
  15. I made of bunch of xmas ornies and also a few football helmets decorated with the teams colors and stuff. But I noticed some of the paint chipped off. I used acrylic...what is the best way to paint these? I dont mean to paint the entire ornie, but just to add little tidbits on them. By the way, people just love the helmets!
  16. My wish would be that there was no such thing as WET SPOTS! That whatever wax you used it would just adhere to the jar and be perfect. How nice would that be!
  17. This batch of 70/30 is giving me wet spots and some frosting. GL suggested adding sticky stuff or 1oz pp of J50. I tried both and it didn't seem to make a difference. The first batch I had was perfect! But I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong, maybe. I heat the wax to 185-190, add color then FO, stir a bit and pour into washed, heated jars and let cool. What do you think is causing this and/or what can I do? Any advice or suggestions? TIA
  18. Thanks everyone, but I ended up doing it in real light sort of greyish silver. I looked on BC and it said smoky grey. But these will be testers so I guess they are ok. Actually the color turned out pretty! I might try one of your suggestions next tho. TY all!
  19. What color would you use for Fireplace? I was thinking smoky grrey, but thought that might not be very attractive. HELP ME!!!!!
  20. I was using Eco 6 mostly. It worked but I'd like to see if the CD's would be better.
  21. I use a 2 1/2" dia. salsa jar, and have been using the eco wicks with gl70/30, but now I want to try CD wicks. Anyone use this combo? I have CD 6,7,8 & 10, where do I start? Any advice? Please? TIA
  22. Does anyone use this combo? I have been testing this wax and using eco wicks, but now I want to try CD wicks. I just ordered CD 6,7,8,10. I'm thinking of trying the CD 8, anyone try this? My jar is a salsa jar, 2 1/2". Any advice? I'd really, really appreciate it, TIA.,..Dee
  23. Iwant to order some of this oil, but it is not listed in the list of scents. Its in the new scents list, so where is it? How do I order it? I'm also ordering Apple cin., muscadine ( I love GL's) and has anyone tried the new Van. & Tog something or other, I forgot the name, but its expensive! Sorry...I forget alo t of things lately, old age I guess. Any suggestions from GL, oh I got a sample of Nutty Taffy Apple, its was great!
  24. Very nice mug! I make those using hot chocolate fo and add a dab of whipped wax on top to look like whipped cream. I sold a lot of them last Xmas. The whipped wax adds a little something to it. I have also done some with the whipped wax and a dab of cinnamon or nutmeg sprinkled on top. Just a few ideas to play with. Great job, looks nice and smooth on top.
  25. Who has a good one? Anyone try GL? I want one that smells pretty much like the real thing. I have campfire and it is soooo strong, I hardly ever use it. It's different! Anyone have a good one? TIA
