  1. Anyone tried this? Poured it 4/14 (five days ago) and, just burned it today and am getting very little throw. I used 1.5 oz per pound of wax. Not sure why I can't get it to throw. Anyone else?
  2. I just checked out Scent Works (scent-works.com) at the recommendations of someone earlier in this thread, and it seems that their oils are made especially for body products, and not for candles. I do see where it says they CAN be used in candles, but, I prefer oils more geared towards, candles, don't you think?
  3. Yes, but, it says that it's the hottest of the wicks with cores, however, there are wicks without cores, aren't there? So, we know that cotton is the hottest of the cored wicks.
  4. Makes sense. I'm glad that I asked. What about the Premier series wick. How does it compare in terms of how hot it burns.
  5. According to the wick chart, the wick with the highest melt pool and the highest rate of consumption is the LX 30
  6. Has anyone tried the Premier Series Wick from wickit.net? How does it compare in terms of how hot it burns, to the ones listed here?
  7. I have the wick chart, but, is there something that might tell me which wicks burn the hottest? What are your opinions on the hottest burning wicks? Would it stand to reason that the hottest burning wicks produce the best scent throw?
  8. So it threw better at 6.5% than it did at 7.5% or at 9%? That's odd, don't you think? Why do you think that might be?
  9. I'm not really looking for dupes. Just a different kind of fragrance. And, when you say "high end" what do you mean, specific to the two companies you just metnioned?
  10. And you are talking specifically about the 70/30 wax?
  11. I agree, but, the question then becomes how much FO should you put in per pound of wax to achieve just that...maximizing the scent throw. Because, it doesn't ONLY depend on the strength of the oil, as putting 1% clearly won't give you the scent throw that putting 6% will...know what I mean? So, while I agree that there is probably a point where the throw is maxed...the question then becomes...what is that point?
  12. For those of you who use this wax in particular, how much FO do you use, per pound of wax? I've heard a ton of people say that I should be using 1oz pp, because this wax throws so well but, I'm looking for YOUR experiences, in one thread. I'm currently using 1.5 oz pp, and haven't test burned, as I'm goign to have the patience to let them cure initially for 1-2 weeks before burning (believe me it's hard). But, I'm looking for a HUGE scent throw. A blow me out of the house type throw.
  13. What is everyone's thought on this? Everyone is telling me that 1 oz per pound of the Greenleaf 70/30 is fine for most everything, but, I'm looking for a VERY strong scent throw, so I've been using 1.5 ounces per pound. I've not yet test burned anything and am trying to be patient and let everything cure for a week or two prior to burning. But, my question is, can more FO than is required actually LESSEN the Hot throw of a candle? What are your thoughts?
  14. Which of the Scent Works oils are the higher end ones?
  15. Like those found in high end candle brands, like Voluspa, Votivo, Archipelago, etc. Are there any suggestions for these types of oils and where they can be found?
  16. Quickbooks is the way to go, large or small. I know of $200mil corporations running their books STRICTLY with this program, and it's simple enough for us small folks.
  17. I don't see how that calculator can work, when in reality, 16 fluid ounces of water is far less "heavy" than 16 fluid ounces of wax/fo.
  18. So far, I'm using GL and Peak's fragrance oils. I will also be ordering from NG and BCN. I really want kind of a "blow me out the house" scent throw, which is why I'm going 1.5 oz per pound of wax.
  19. Nobody has tried BCN's or NG's Cheescake?
  20. I know this has been addressed before but, assuming you had the patience, what is the OPTIMAL amount of time that this wax should cure before burning? Keep in mind, I don't mean the minimum amount of time. I mean, assuming that your patience wasn't an issue, and, you could let it cure indefinately, what is the OPTIMAL amount of time that this particular wax should cure before burning? 1 weeks? 2 weeks? Less?
  21. Looking to put together an order with BCN and I know they carry this line. They are supposedly very strong, but, they are also VERY expensive. Any suggestions on the best throwing, strongest scents of WYW? I use Greenleaf's 70/30 Blend.
  22. Anyone tried NG's or maybe BCN's? I don't think Peak or GL have one, right?
  23. I'm having a bit of trouble getting the scent and ALL of the FO residue out of one of my pour pots. We have tried heating with the gun, then washing and scrubbing, leaving the HOT water running on it, and, I can't seem to get it ALL out. Do you knowledgable folks have any tips or tricks as to cleaning these things and getting them ready for your next batch of candles? Wouldn't be such a big deal if our next batch were the same scent as the one we just poured but, they aren't.
  24. I didn't mean to offend you and if I did, then I apologize. Having said that, your comments were, in fact, assumptions, not experiences, as you don't CURRENTLY own a retail establishment which sells these, which would be the only way that you could state an experience directly related to this product in particular, and how it does in a retail establishment, in terms of "repeat sales." I have no reason to doubt how experienced you are with other retail stores, or wholesaling operations, or anything else for that matter, however, your comment on these not generating "repeat business" was incorrect, and, I was simply correcting it based on my experience (and the experience of a vast majority of candle/gift show owners who comprise the source for that "hot items" sheet I spoke about earlier in the thread). These candles do, in fact, generate a good amount of repeat business. I will also reiterate that I didn't experience ANY of the problems with the candle that you did. By no means are they GREAT candles (they don't have the strongest throw in the world, nor are they the most even burning), however, the flame was NOT unacceptably high, nor was there ANY black soot, or any of the other problems that you experienced. Ruling out the possibility that you got a "dud" leaves me at a loss as to why those things happened to your candles, and not mine. By the way, this thread, originally, was about finding a wood wicks source...not really about Old Virginia Candle. Again, if I offended you, then I apologize, as it was, most certainly, NOT my intention.
