for a retail store.

Which is why I'm sure they weren't mentioned in this thread, which is almost a year old, however, in more recent information, they appear to be one of the most respected FO suppliers around.

Very interesting thread. I have taken an informal/unofficial tally of results (took a little while), and this is what I have come up with. I will preface this by saying that, while I don't know how long Greenleaf has been around, I would venture to guess that it's not that long because, from what I've read in OTHER threads, they are amongst the most respected of fragrance oils, and, there wasn't a single mention in this thread. This thread is close to a year old, which would explain it, if Greenleaf has been around less than that amount of time. Peak-44 Nature's Garden-23 BitterCreek (no specification as to North or South)-16 Just Scent-9 BitterCreek North-7 LoneStar-6 Kentucky-5 BitterCreek South, Bubbles N Lights, Tennessee, Candle Cocoon, MilCreek, Bluegrass-4 Cierra, Candles and Supplies-3 Wicks N Wax, Kangaroo Blue, Snowtop, Candlemaker's Store, Whilesale Supplies Plus-2 Hope this helps everyone.

Wood Wicks - Where to get?
CandleCouture replied to CandleCouture's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
Bruce, I would say I sell anwhere between 10 and 15 per day. Just because I know my customers, I know that alot of them are repeat buys. Also, as for heating the house. Not sure what you mean other than the flame thing, and, the fact is, they don't produce a flame anywhere near the flame on the picture posted onthis thread. -
Best Throwing FO's from NG in Soy
CandleCouture replied to CandleCouture's topic in Fragrance Discussion
What is everyone's opinion on NG's oils? They seem to be several dollars less expensive than most other FO's out there. Is that indicative of a compromise in quality? I would love it if these oils were of a good quality but I don't want to learn that "you get what you pay for"...Know what I mean? $12.95 per pound (if you buy 5 or more pounds total), seems VERY inexpensive. -
I would love your help with these. With your help I've been able to order from Peaks and GL and am now looking towards BCN and NG. Any help would be great.

Wood Wicks - Where to get?
CandleCouture replied to CandleCouture's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
You are very, very, very, very incorrect in your assumption. Again, I own a store and can tell you that people buy these thing OVER and OVER and OVER again. In addition, I will say that maybe you got a dud, because I didn't experience ANY of what you did. My ONLY complaint about the candle was a VERY uneven burn (unless you marathon burned them), but, other than that, if you trimmed the wick down to a little nub, there was no large flame, or smoke, nor was there any black on my candle. And, I don't know how my customers are burning them. I would suspect they aren't as good about trimming the wick as I am, but, they continue to buy them over and over. They are VERY good sellers and are my single best repeat sale items. It's hard, when you KNOW that you make a similar product, or possibly a better one, to not let that cloud your judgement. These things, whether you want to accept this or not, sell remarkably well...and not just once. -
Anyone with a good, strong throwing, rich, creamy Cheesecake?
-
Just read on Enchanted Lites, on their fragrances page: "Our Fragrance Oils are manufactured for use in Soy Wax using a synthetic carrier with naturally occurring aromas. Check each fragrance page to see which are recommended for bath and body products. Our fragrances meet all requirements of California Proposition 65." Sure doesn't SOUND like they are "soy based fragrance oils" to me.

Premier 700 series wicks from Wick It
CandleCouture replied to geekrunner's topic in Vegetable Wax & Beeswax Candle Making
Does anyone know if it's possible to single wick the larger (4" diameter) Apothecaries, with this series of wick? I know it's impossible with any other wick (if I'm wrong here, by all means, let me know). -

Wood Wicks - Where to get?
CandleCouture replied to CandleCouture's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
Bruce, I respect your opinion, I do, but, having said that, I'm not sure what you base your opinion on? Have you tried wicking with wood? Probably not. I'd guess nobody on this board has (myself included). I would also present to you that there are improvements made in every day life on existing products (typewriters to computers, Television to HDTV, VHS to DVD, etc). This might be another example and it's kind of short sighted to dismiss it, and even more short sighted to dismiss it without even having tried it. You may be right on it being a fad, but, there are quite a few "fads" that have a tendency to stick aroudn longer than most people initially thought they would. The possibility also exists that you are wrong, and that it IS a better way to combust the fuel. Remember when everyone thought the world was flat, and that there was nothing left to discover? Keep an open mind. It's all I'm saying. -
Wood Wicks - Where to get?
CandleCouture replied to CandleCouture's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
There is no such thing as fact, when it comes to something like this, however, they are on GiftBeat Magazine's list, at number 4. Giftbeat is an industry publication which measures how popular certain items/company/products are, in this case, in the gift industry. This is from the February issue: 1-Yankee 2-La Tee Da Fragrance Lamps 3-Aromatique 4-WoodWick Jars from Old Virginia Candle They are climbing too, because, in the previous issue, they were somewhere in the neighberhood of 7. And, considering I own retail stores, I can tell you that their list is generally fairly accurate when it comes to this sort of thing, and predicting how well something will do, sales wise. They get these figures, by the way, by polling independent retailers with regards to how well these items are selling. So, to answer your question...Fact? No. However, fairly accurate interpretation of subjective measures. -

What about those infrared thermometers? Are they accurate? -
Wood Wicks - Where to get?
CandleCouture replied to CandleCouture's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
Can't say that I agree. I've tried it and, trimming the wick couldn't be easier. You can either cut it with a wick trimmer, or just run your finger over it and it wittles down to nothing. As for the sound...not true either. You can hear it pretty clearly. Does it cause a 10 decibal rumble? no, but, neither does a wood fire in a fireplace. They are, by the way, one of the hottest things going right now in the gift/candle industry, if not the hottest -
Anyone know where to get these? Old Virginia Candle is doing very well with them.
-
$8 per pound? Wow. Is this a value, or is this the type of thing where you scratch your head later and say "you get what you pay for"? How are they THAT much less expensive than anyone else on those?

testing testing so much money
CandleCouture replied to bella soy's topic in Vegetable Wax & Beeswax Candle Making
The reason for the air bubbles is that you are pouring too hot. You need to wait as long as possible with straight soy, and pour at around 100 when the wax is slushy/cloudy. And, while this isn't part of your problem regarding the air pockets, you will have a problem with scent throw if you are adding your FO at that temperature. You need to add between 175-180 (180 seems to be a magic number for many people) so that the oil can bind with the wax. -
Pouring Pots bigger than 4 lbs?
CandleCouture replied to CandleCouture's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
I'd really rather one larger pot. It is for purposes of simplicity and in measuring out fragrance oils and the like. It's also far more efficient. -
Where can I get Pour Pots bigger than this? I can't seem to find any anywhere. I can really only find the four pound and the smaller, one pound pots.
