No one needs to be afraid to post - just use some good, common sense. Before you come to a message board to complain, attempt to resolve the issue with the 'offender' - that is all alot of us were saying. I say if you don't like our complaining, don't read the threads or find something else to do - just as you have suggested some of us do!

lol - no problem....I find even heating my jars do not make a difference. I do believe every remedy has been tried and some have even said they found the cure - only to come back a week later and admit they now have wetspots!

But just maybe the advice is worth taking - listening and learning is always a good thing....the entertainment is just lagniappe

I used to always heat - thought it helped with wet spots.....and I read where I was supposed to.Then I read where folks said it was a waste of time, electricity, etc....so thought I would try without heating them......I can see absolutely no difference! And I also would discontinue those jars immediately if one exploded just by pouring wax into....Sounds a bit strange to me!

and to dip it you could buy that cheap, scratchy, single ply stuff they put in gas stations! lol what a profit margin!Seriously, Janet what decorations did you put on yours?? Or how did you decorate?? I just can't imagine.....

they all say 'pure, uncut, yada yada'.....there are different fo's that seem to be stronger than others. Peaks usually has some pretty nice fragrances as do lots of others....I would recommend beginning with Peaks and then moving on to try others (if necessary) after you find a couple you like. Try the sample pack....I can't think of a fragrance of Peaks that I have disappointed with. (no I don't work for peaks...lol) I shop at lots of different places for fragrances but it took me a couple of years to figure out what is good and what is just cheap!Debbie

wetspots are where the wax pulls away from the container....I'm sure there is some technical name but if you do a search for 'wetspots' I think you will find lots of information and real or imagined cures.....my philosophy is to ignore them! You may not have them today, but they could pop up tomorrow, or next week or.....Some people say they have found some waxes that do not create wet spots.....I've never seen it.....

Have you checked out Old Virginia's web site? During your search you will find where people have bought these candles and what they thought....

you may end up trying lots of different fragrances before you settle on ones that the throw is good for you.....Certain fragrances just don't seem to work good for everyone. I would go to the fragrance section and read some back posts to see what people are recommending - but remember just because it works good for them doesn't mean it will work well for you. And some fragrances just smell different to different people.Have you asked someone else to smell? Sometimes we just smell 'too' much and end up with 'candle nose'!HTH

My opinion - no.....I also believe food and soap making supplies/utensils should be kept separate!

do a search on wood wicks - this topic has been beaten to death .....you should be able to find lots of info!

I would think at this point (the beginning) you need to research wicks just a bit....That HTP isn't gonna work in the 16 oz apothecary (imo)......So figure out which wicks you want to try, and buy a sampler pack (several different sizes) and begin! It's almost as easy as that. Wicking is going to be the most difficult. I can tell you that the 16 oz apothecary is probably going to need to be double wicked. After you decide on wicks, do a search for the type you have decided on for a starting point....If you believe the HTP will work in the smaller jar you have, melt your wax, add your fragrance and go for it! You have to just jump in - then test it to see if that wick will work with your wax, jar and fragrance....Have you read what types of supplies you need? Like thermometer, scale, something (glue, wick stickums, or??) to hold your wick to the bottom of the container, something to keep your wick centered as the wax hardens, either presto pot or double boiler method to melt your wax, and I'm sure there is more I am not thinking of now.Keep good notes as it will make it easier for you to perfect your candle.HTH - have fun!

If you are pouring just a few at a time, try using pyrex glass measuring cups....I buy the big ones at walmart (under $5) and they work great...

All of your ideas sound great - any color you choose is the right color! Use your imagination and go for it!

And I find in wax, blackberry jam is the bomb! I use 70/30 for container and it has a very strong hot throw. In pillars, I use 6228 and the cold and hot throw is tremendous! Just goes to show, different waxes and different people get different results!

Some are good, some are not.....I would look in the classifieds and see if you can't get some from there....perhaps the shipping would not be so out of control! I always see samples from Just Scent for sale....

I find a 36 z is not large enough for even a regular size votive.....it may be recommended (as I have seen) but I have never had good luck with the 36 (and been using zinc wicks for at least 3 years) always had to go with 44's.

Hey Tanya, Under techniques and ideas - there is basic instruction for making hurricanes.... They were one of the 1st candles I made - kinda backwards but I had seen such cool pics....I just followed the directions - very easy! Debbie

oob reviews are worthless....put a fragrance in wax and it could change significantly.....my advice would be to put it in wax and see what you think. What may smell like cinnamon to me may not to you! kwim?
