  1. Crystal I bought a book called "Small Time Operator" written by Bernard Kamoroff, CPA. It covers starting a business, keeping your own books, taxes, licenses and registering etc. I found it really helpful! Also, you should have a local Small Business Association (SBA) that can help you with business plan and setting up a business. They can also help you get business loans etc.
  2. Freezer paper has a waxy or slick coating on one side, parchment has no coating. They should be in the same aisle in the store.
  3. Heather, I'm not sure how many you are looking for but Candlewic sells them by the case of 500, I haven't used them, so I can't vouch for them but everything else I have ever gotten from candlewic has been good. http://www.candlewic.com/Store/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=Candle+Making+Supplies&category%5Fname=Candles&product%5Fid=G%2D1
  4. I order my labels from planetlabel or through the co-ops. I go to staples and get different sizes to try just to see if I like them or not. I use Avery DesignPro to create the labels, its free, just download from the Avery site. For the baggies I get mine from Nashville wraps. You want polypropylene bags, polyethylene (sp) sucks out the FO. Hope this helps some!
  5. I have used microsoft office, there are templates at the microsoft office website. I have also used microsoft publisher and have been happy with the results.
  6. I do the same as Tess. I use a shipping schedule, though, I don't tell them it is flat rate. I ship everything flat rate or FedEx, whichever is cheapest.
  7. That looks great. Do you have them wrapped in candy foil? Neat idea!
  8. Those look awesome, love the colors. One day I hope to be that good!
  9. Test one based on the smallest wick you could use for the largest diameter of the container. I do some jars that the opening is about an 3/4 of an inch smaller than the bottom and they work out okay.
  10. I do the same as Tara. I ship from Virginia to Wisconsin and the mid-west frequently and to Puerto Rico as well. I always ship priority mail, UPS or Fedex and ship on Monday/Tuesday depending on the destination. I haven't had a problem with any candles melting yet.
  11. This is my first batch of HP soap made using primarily beef tallow. I also used olive oil, coconut oil, wheat germ oil and PKO. It lathers great. I added a little titanium dioxide to lighten it up a little. It is scented coconut lime daydream.
  12. She sent me some of her olive oil soap, it was awesome! Carmen makes great products!
  13. Has anyone done an SFIC co-op? I was wondering if the shipping charges were worth the savings of buying in bulk.
  14. www.foxhillcandles.com I am in the process of taking new photos of all the products and after that is done I will redo the site.
  15. Try looking for tart pans instead of pie pans. Look at these and see what you think http://www.agiantpackaging.com/tart-html/FB260.html Hope this helps!
  16. I have used WSP's oatmeal, honey and silk & shea soaps. I have been happy with all of them. I also use SFICs honey soap and it is great, not drying at all.
  17. I use KYSOY 125 and I generally do 6-9% depending on the FO, some are strong enough that I only need 6%.
  18. I got this recipe from makeyourowncosmetics.com and thought I would share because it is awesome! 4 oz. aloe butter 1 oz. Fractionated coconut oil or virgin coconut oil 0.6 oz of olive squalane 1 tsp coconut fragrance oil 1 tsp yuzu fragrance oil 1/8 tsp vitamin E Weight out ingredients into mixing bowl and using handheld mixer blend on high until smooth and creamy. How easy is that? Yields 8 oz., shelf life 6 mos. I used coconut lime daydream instead of the fo's listed. It is absolutely wonderful!
  19. Cindy that is awesome! Congratulations!
  20. They have four or five different sizes and styles similar to this, wish they had one with wheels!
  21. That looks like so much fun! It looks like it is going to be beautiful when you are finished with it!
  22. My best sellers are Mulberry and Cherry Blossom.
  23. I just found the neatest case for my samples! It is a soft sided (nylon) fishing tackle box. It came with four of the plates cases that tarts or the 1.5 oz hex jars fit in and has four pockets on it that will hold soaps, jar candles and lotion bottles and a nice carry strap! I will post a pic as soon as my camera batteries recharge. I got it at wally world for $24.99, I am so excited!
  24. I take a folder with pricing and scent lists and a copy of my catalog, business card and the wholesale form (for their tax ID) and purchase agreement forms and along with my sample case.
  25. I played with some palm for awhile. Make sure you stick with the recommendations for pouring temp etc. if it cools too fast you will lose some of your crystalization. I had a heck of time wicking it and just basically got tired of testing over and over again. The one I did get right in a turquoise color with a nice tropical FO I took came out great.
