  1. Just an FYI, but all of Candle Cocoons wicks are 12"
  2. Well, just did a search on sweating C-3 and sweating C3 and all 5 posts, including mine, lol, werent very helpful. I am aware of why sweating occurs, and have experianced it in any wax when temps are hot or FO is not mixed in properly at the right times, or FO loads are too high, or something to that effect. This is just a puddle of oil sitting on the top of my 2 tester candles. I was thinking that there might be something I was doing wrong, which is why I posted my FO load, pour temps, house temp etc. But, from what I have read, this just appears to be some strange phenomena that happens to certain people with this wax. From what I am reading, it just seems to pick and choose who it will weep on, for no appearent reason, hehehe. Ah well, this is why we test I guess.
  3. Well, I dont think I can help ya on that one. I just posted about weepy C-3 candles, LOL! Glad to see Im not the only one experiancing this with this wax. Hopefully we will both get the help we need
  4. I will say this. If I pour the 415 at a very thick slushy stage, I rarely, if ever get frost. At least until I burn it anyway. I would say that the consistancy is that of applesauce, maybe slightly thicker. I simply do not have the time for that though, as I have a rather high production rate with my PL customers. Im always on the look out forthat perfect wax, LOL!
  5. I bought 10 lbs. of C-3 to test out. I poured 2 containers, each with 6% FO, in 2 different scents. Both of them are weeping like crazy! I have poured alot of testers today with different wax combos, and my scale is accurate. None of my other candles are doing this, and it is a very pleasent 74 degrees in my house right now. I heated the wax to 185, added FO immediatly, and poured at 165. Any suggestions or ideas? TIA!
  6. Well, my results are becoming curiouser and curiouser, LOL! What I initially thought was a little bit of frost on the plain 415 candle wasnt. It was just some tiny white air bubbles near the surface. I heat gunned it and it's gone now. I heat gunned all the tops, even the perfectly smooth 415/USA top, just to see if it would cause it to frost. The plain 415 and the 415/USA didnt get any frost on top from the heat gun, but the 415/BW got a tiny bit on the top. So far, the only candle that has any frost on the sides at all is the 415/USA candle. It has small blothes all around the entire jar. It is still minimal, but it's only been about 7 hrs since poured them. The plain 415 and the 415/BW have no frost (except the top of 415/BW from heat gun) I know this is just one test with one scent, but this certainly doesnt encourage me to want to spend extra bucks on USA for frosting issues anyway. But, I will say that being able to pour 415 at 150 degrees is definatly attractive, and for me would be worth the extra money spent in time saving alone. Will update with burn results tomorrow.
  7. Which soy wax and how much fragrance oil per pound of wax? Also at what temp are you adding your FO? Give us that info and we will see what we can come up with
  8. I poured 3 testers. All with Gb 415 (aka EZ Soy). One is just 415 with 6% FO, Mountian Lake and Navy liquid dye. I poured this one at about 100 degrees. So far it has a tiny bit of frost, and the top is so so, some bumps/pits. The second one I made with the same FO/Dye, but I added 3% beeswax. This one I poured about 115 degrees. This one has no frost yet, and the top is better than the first. There is the typical circular crack. The last tester is 415 with 3% USA. Same FO/Dye. Poured this one at 150 degrees. We have no frost yet, and the top is smooth as a babies butt. This one looks great so far. All seem to have pretty much the same cold throw. Tomorrow I will drop in some wicks and test burn for hot throw.
  9. It is probably just a harder batch of wax than what you have tested previously. You may have to go up several sizes in wicks to get a good burn, if the wax is really hard. I personally would keep going up in size until I found what works. If you still can get it, you could always try adding in some container paraffin to try to soften it up a bit. I would probably start with 10% paraffin and go from there. I can say, that every soy wax I have ever used has had the occasional "hard batch", so dont feel like it is exclusive to your brand wax. Like I said, the soy crops can change from season to season, and that is going to affect how your soy wax burns. Let us know if you get it worked out!
  10. I would recommend starting with a kit, as it will give you a feel for wicking and help you to get comfortable with candle making in general. I do know that Bruce from Enchanted Lites will send you free samples of their waxes, if you just email him. I personally love the EL Millenium wax, and also GreenLeafs 70/30. There are so many types of waxes, and there are so many people that love each one for their own reasons. Once you get a few waxes to test, then you can do more specific searches here to find the tips and tricks for each. HTH!
  11. Yes, even uncolored 415 will frost, it just isnt very noticable. It's much harder to see white frost on white wax, as opposed to seeing white frost on red or purple wax. Many people choose to go uncolored for this very reason. And, although you may not think uncolored candles would be very appealing to customers, many customers acctually prefer them undyed. They match with any color scheme that way, and can look very upscale. I wouldnt worry about color myself, but I have one PL customer that is very specific about their color pallet, so it's too late to turn back now.
  12. I am getting a great hot/cold throw with the EL waxes. I did also test the Original EL container wax and added some beeswax to it. I did get a little frost, but not as bad as without. Both threw great, but the Millenium didnt frost and I prefer a hotter pour. I also tested the EcoSoya Advanced, which made a gorgouse looking candle with no frost, but I also had little if any throw. I am really happy with the EL Millenium. Now, my 415 throws like a champ, but boy does it frost! I tend to use it for uncolored candles, and that might be something you want to try as well. Will let ya know my results on the testers I pour up today.
  13. I'll pour up some and see if the one with modifier looks better than the one without. Im trying to think of an FO that really frosts bad in soy, so we can really test it in extreme conditions, LOL! I think I will use red dye too. Any ideas on FO? Maybe Red Hot from BCN? Never poured it on it's own, but it sounds like a froster, hehehe.
  14. Well, this is certainly not uncommon with soy, at least thats what my experiance has shown. Soy crops differ from season to season, so it's very likely that you now have a harder batch than previously. What I do is when I get a new case of wax, I pour up 1 tester and see if burns the same as before. If I have to wick up/down, then I do so across the board for all my scents. Doing this saves lots of time and supplies, as opposed the pouring up alot of candles, and then testing one only to find that everything is suddenly wicked wrong. HTH!
  15. Yeah, what Stella said, LOL! But, I will chime in and say, I have never had a Patchouli that I didnt have to wick WAY up on
  16. I tried adding palm, and got the worst frost of all. 3% Bees Wax seemed to help in many cases. I rarely ever ever get frosting with my EL Millenium wax. It is very resistant. But when useing 415 I get tons of it. I think I am gonna pour up some testers today of 415 and USA and see what kind of results I get as far as frostong goes.
  17. I have some USA that I bought from Greenleaf, but I havent tested with it yet. I also have some GB 415 (AKA EZSOY). What results are you hoping to get from the modifier? Frost, hotter pour? I was thinking of pouring some testers today. Ive got tons of FO's, so someone chime in and tell me some that are really terrible looking in 415, and I'll pour up one with and one without the modifier and see what kind of results we get
  18. I havent had curling with the LX series. ? I use an LX 24 or 26 for my 3" pillars in both paraffin and palm wax. Good luck!
  19. So far all I have tested in a palm container was: Creme Brulee Cafe - Candle Cocoon Honeysuckle Blooms - Green Leaf Candle Supply Pua Pikake - Green Leaf Candle Supply All 3 were blow you outta the house strong!
  20. I am testing the Enchanted Lites Millenium soy and am loving it! I know Michelle from FLSoySolutions is very helpful and will be there to direct you with how to work with EL wax, and you would definatly save shipping cost if you are buying a wax from a local supplier, even if you have them ship it. The EL oils are great too! Like everyone else says, if you are just gonna make a few candles for yourself, go to the local craft store. But if you are wanting to do something more extensive than that, check out a supplier. Not to mention craft store FO quality is very debatable. HTH!
  21. I use the BCN Tomato Leaf and do my own blend with it and their Cilantro. It is AWESOME!
  22. I use either my trusty hot glue gun, or wick stickums and have no problem with my wicks coming unattached. So far everything I have tested has been good at throwing in this wax. Some of my strongest scents come from Candle Cocoon. Pretty much everything I have tested from them rocks. I also like Greenleafs oils, and a few that I have tried from Natures Garden have been good. Also MillCreek has some great strong scents for soy. My newest favorite from them is Mediteranian Fig, mmmmmmmm.
  23. I often find that I have every wick that is known to man, except the one I need. :rolleyes2 LOLOLOL!
  24. I also tested the EcoSoya Advanced. The candles were beautiful, but I just wasnt getting the hot throw I wanted either, if any at all The EL Millenium after burn if totaly smooth. No crusties or lumpy bumpy tops. If you have a local supplier then I would definatly test it if I were you. It's not as perfect as the EcoSoya Advanced looks until you get your pour temps down, but the cold/hot throw is great! HTH!
  25. As far as a blend goes I also like GreenLeafs 70/30. But, if I need soy without paraffin, then I am really liking EL Millenium. I have tried EcoSoya Advanced (beautiful candle - little throw) C-3 (couldnt get a non-weeping candle during OK's hot summers) 415 - (Great throw - hate pouring slushy and frost) 464 (Nice look and throw was great, until about half way through ?) So far with the Millenium I can pour hotter, get no frost, smooth tops, and scent throw seems great throughout. Like everyone else says, see whats close to you as far as shipping goes. It doesnt matter how great the wax is if you cant get it near by. The shipping cost can really raise up your cost to produce.
