FolkArt has the FolkArt Finishes Frost Effect and Frosted Glass Enamel. I think the FolkArt Mediums Glass & Tile Medium can be used for a frosted effect as well.

DecoArt has the Americana Frost Gloss Enamels in several colors and white.

Thank You..I will check them out

    Hi Guys,

I am really struggling here and need you to assist me please as I have run out of what to test.

I am using essential oil + soy wax (464) + wood wicks (from the wooden wicken wick co ).

My problem is: I am getting 70% weak flame and 30% good and strong flame with my small jar candle only and I am not sure where my problem is.

My small jar has a diameter of 47mm and height of 62mm, and I am currently using a wood wick with the measurement of width 0.375" (9.5mm), and I trim my wick to around 1mm - 3mm above the wax which allows it to pick up the flame easily, because I realized if I dont trim it short enough the candle cant be lit at all.

However, I am not getting consistent results, because sometimes the flame is strong, other times it gets so weak that it seems like its suffocating, yet I do exactly the same things when I test.

The test I did today, my wick was about 1mm-2mm above the wax, and while the flame isnt as strong as some of my other tests, it still kept burning, but half way through as I saw the flame getting weaker, I thought I would trim it to see if that helps the candle to burn better, but it didnt. The flame went extremely weak. Should I not have done so?

My other candle is from another test I did a few days ago, it burns very well, and I am not sure why, especially because the length of the wick above the wax is pretty similar.

Can you guys please tell me what is happening here please? I dont even really know the problem.

    Below are my candle pictures.

Hi...It might be because of the essential oils,   try with fragrance oils..fo's are more suited for candles

  3. hi..so I was thinking about those little pine incense sticks that you can burn in the log cabin, I just love that smell. It doesn't smell like any other pine smell  that I have ever smelled. So I looked it up and it says its balsam ..I have ordered a few pine scents and woodland scents but i don't think just a balsam . Does anyone know if a balsam fo smells like that..Thanks

I would look for a pillar or tart blend.  Those types of blends are designed to shrink a little to remove from metal molds.

464 has additives to prevent it from shrinking so it maintains good jar adhesion, which is important for their base customers.

I will give that a try..I have a lot of 464 so I might as well try to make tart wax because I don't think I'm  going to make candles with it anymore. I looked at the candles I made from 3 months ago and longer and I was very disappointed. They were dry looking, frosted and some had brown spots and these were the candles that came out just about perfect. My lovely soy has let me down I just have to admit it lol.. Thanks💐

Karen of course it can work! Get a harder paraffin, and use with 464. You will have to work the percentages of each to get the scent throw but also the ease of opting out of container. There are many threads of combinations on craft server. Order some sample waxes and give it a go!

Thanks..I'm so unfamiliar with paraffin, how do I tell which ones are harder? Will it say it in the description?

  6. So I was just wondering if I mixed 464 and a paraffin together would it be firm enough to get out of molds or clamshell molds? I know i can experiment, but I don't want to order paraffin (shipping is so expensive) unless it might work. Thanks💐

I bet that would be great with a little sweetgrass added too!  Sweetgrass smells like hay and that smidge of blackberry would compliment it wonderfully.  I would be willing to try that Indigo scent too.  I haven't ordered or tried anything from them yet.

Do any of you know of a blackberry musk FO?

I haven't come across a BlackBerry musk, but that sounds good

I am posting this here rather than in the wickless category because I am needing help on this wax formula rather than a wickless specific question. I make chunk melts. I use a soy wax, a hard paraffin and a soft praffin. When I go to cut my chunks, they break off in brittle pieces. I would love to be able to cut these chunks smoothly and cleanly. Is there something I can add to my mix to accomplish this? Do you think coconut oil or crisco would do it?

I'm no pro but soy is pretty soft so maybe less paraffin or try to cut it when its still a little soft

My latest lot of 464 I tested was really weird. If I added the FO at 185-190 like I do with every other wax I would get zero HT, but if I added the FO at exactly 160 it ended up being stronger than my parasoy with no cure time. I couldn't get it to pour with a smooth top otherwise I would have used it for batch of soy candles.

I don't recommend the low temp method for any other waxes, it usually ends up causing nothing but problems most of the time for me, but give it a shot with the 464 and see how it goes.

Thank you, I will try this today. I do love soy just tired of being disappointed , uhg lol..thanks💐

  10. I think I'm loosing my love for soy 464. I have tried so many fo's and the lack of a great HT  is driving me crazy, and I let them cure for at least 2 weeks if not more. Are all brands of soy treated equally in the HT category? Do some throw better than others or over all basically the same?

While testing, please make certain you place a few melts in a bathroom that gets super steamy and let them sit for a few weeks.  (People store things weirdly, and who know if you'll be selling on a super rainy day.)  I've occasionally, not frequently, seen melts with sprinkles whose colors bleed into the melt.  I played with it, and the best I can figure was cheap sprinkles and high humidity.  :) I'm not saying "don't do it"--just test a little bit to be sure the product doesn't get weird.

That's a really good idea..I would have never of thought of that. My bathroom is small so perfect place to test, doesn't take much to get steamy in there lol💐

I don't think it messes with it at all. I use them when I make cookie shapes of wax and when the was hardens back up they just harden into the wax again.

Thanks for answering, I haven't tried it yet so I wasn't sure what to expect..💐
