  1. Nevermind my original post...dumb question...Just thought about what I was asking...If I could delete, I would...lol
  2. I don't have a pattern and if you can't find an easy one through this board, I suggest Simplicity patterns. I've been sewing for many years but back when I was learning how to sew Mice, Ducks, Rabbits, faceless dolls, and the clothing for them, I used Simplicity patterns. Very easy to read and understand. Also, go to the fabric shop, read the back of the pattern package and don't be afraid to ask them for help if you don't understand. HTH a little.
  3. I ship mine and include an insert to immediately clean the plastic part and wipe the jar lip. I haven't had any problems or complaints...yet (I might have just jinxed myself). Also, I fill mine just up to the base of the neck of the jar....know what I mean? I use the same jars and lids as you from NG. I really don't do anything special or use additional travel lids.
  4. I've been making my votives for quite some time. Since I use about 70% soy in my blend, you probably know that the votive must be burned while in a snug votive holder. I have customers that purchase them and love them. I make it clear about what type of votive holder to use. My problem is that I don't like them anymore. Though I haven't had any complaints, I feel like I'm just sitting here waiting for the day when someone complains that the wax went all over the place. I know that I can question them about the type of holder they used, etc...but I don't like the "I told you" routine. Has anyone else included the holder with theirs? I'm afraid if I start supplying votive holders, I'll have to increase the price. Is there such a thing as a clear votive cups like the tealight cups? TIA
  5. Well, if you're candles are right, then they're right. I wish you much success in your venture.

I just got started in the candle business and things are going well already. I don't have to have all of my product ready until March 1st, but people are already ordering!! Thank God I found this place! I know I will need it. Your first post to this board is above. I rest my case. Christine
  7. That's what I can't figure out! My 8oz burns approx 55hrs...my 16 oz is near 110-120 hrs...there's more to a candle than even burning and scent throw. You would know this IF you asked all the questions. Did you pour all 15 scents on the same day and power burn 24 hrs a day? You state above "They are burning evenly and the smell is good" that right there tells me you haven't completed a test burn or would have stated, they BURNED as in past tense...and you are already selling?
  8. Good Morning: I'm sure what everyone is trying to tell you is that you need to be very careful when selling to the public and slow down. I just took the time to read through all of your posts. On 2/15, you came to this board for supplier information and from what I read, didn't have a clue about making candles let alone the business side of it. I can honestly say, and I may be wrong, there is no way possible that you properly tested your candles. You stated in a previous post that you want to make sure you have asked every question. Well you didn't, and I am one chandler that is not going to tell you what questions you DID NOT ask, you'll figure them out yourself...it's part of the learning process, however, you are also not accepting of any of the answers that everyone has provided...well the answers you don't want to hear anyway. I offer 2 different sized jar candles. My recipe is perfected and I still test. You offer 8oz and 16oz...like me, and I'd like to know how you've managed to learn the craft and test burn all of your fragrances, all the way through in less than 2 weeks while trying to figure out the right temp to pour. It appears to me that you came here for quick answers to just make a candle and sell it. In other words, you appear as someone that is here to use the advice of professionals who have spent alot of time, tears and money to perfect their craft to allow you to make a quick buck. I hope for your sake nothing bad happens to someone that purchased one of your candles. Do you have insurance or is god going to tell you where to find the infamous pot of gold under the rainbow when or if you're sued?
  9. I've been using NG's smelly jelly jars for about 6 months and have never had a problem. In fact, I just ordered more. How high are you filling the jars? Are you using the crystals from NG? Are you using any types of "menthol" FO's? Are you wiping the lip of the jar inside and out with a paper towel before you put the lids on? As far as a temporary fix until you find something, the only thing I can think of is to remove all the lids and rubberband some saran wrap around them. One thing I do tell my customers is that when the fragrance needs refreshed, add a tsp of warm water to the jar and "stir". I specifically tell them not to shake the jars as some FO will melt the plastic liner and to make sure before replacing the plastic lid that they wipe the lip of the jar. They don't seem to have a problem knowing that.
  10. Thank you all so much for your opinions and compliments. I have decided to stay with color. I'm going to start playing with dyes and hopefully do away with the color chips....I think that may be part of my problem when trying to keep the color consistent from one batch to the next. This has been so helpful to me.
  11. Karen, do you know if they allow pick-ups? I'm going to Columbus towards the end of March. Thanks
  12. I found their site a couple of weeks ago and did a search on the Columbus BBB....nothing came up. Couldn't find anything on them as a registered business in the state of Ohio. A while back, there was a little talk about Biomax on this board: http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29458&highlight=biomax
  13. Sorry misunderstood. Actually probably should have read it a little more thoroughly.
  14. uh oh...just sealed my envelope to mail tomorrow morning in FL and didn't include "use" tax. If I didn't charge it...why should I have to pay it was my ignorant thought. Looks like i'm calling the county tomorrow.
  15. I made this, used it, passed out to family and friends...we all love it... Thank you for posting this. Soooo easy to make! I
  16. Forgot to add...I replace the Kokum butter with Cocoa Butter...not sure if that makes a difference with regard to the melting.
  17. I live in Florida and have been participating in a Farmers Market for the past few weeks...it's been up in the 80's and sunny....no melts yet!
  18. Thank you all for taking the time to look. Yes, as soon as I brought the whites into the house and labeled them I knew the colored ones were going to get my vote. I guess I'm now going to start playing with liquid dye. I've heard it's a bit more precise than the color chips which is what I use...now to figure out where to buy the dye...so many suppliers!
  19. You're candles are very nice. The color looks so rich. I also like your label! Very cute.
  20. A very cute story! I give you a tremendous amount of credit for trying, finishing the candle and posting the picture. It doesn't look that bad...I know the color is off but just think how much fun you're going to have and how much easier it will seem making the next!
  21. I make my labels myself using Microsoft Picture It. I print 6-9 of the same label on plain old printer paper. I then run that through the Xyron 900 using the acid free Permanent adhesive/Laminate Cartridge. It laminates the top and the other side is the sticky part. Once that's done, I cut them out using a paper cutter, peel and stick to my jars.
  22. I posted pictures of the all white candle results: http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45674
  23. I posted the thread asking if colors are really necessary. I was stressing over the colors of my candles and how I was having problems with the color changing from batch to batch so I was thinking about going with all white candles and changing my label border to represent the color of the scent. Below are 2 pictures. One of the all whites and the other is the colored (I currently color my candles). I've decided to stay with the color. What do you think? This is what I currently sell. These are the all whites.
  24. Well...They're done. I can tell you, they are not pretty. I just tried to take some pics but they're turning out too yellow. I don't have a light box and usually take my pictures outside so I'll take them in the morning. After looking at these, I'm going to stick with the color. I use color chips so I guess my quest now is to find out everything about liquid color. Thanks everyone for all the feedback and suggestions. I'll still post the pics in the morning.
