  1. That's funny @ErronB. When I started making candles my husband got tired of hearing me talk about it and he didn't fully understand the issues I faced. He was like, just make the candles and be done with it, you've already tested a few candles so you should be good. And my response was, LOL, yea right.

This is where I'm at now.  It's almost becoming (if not already) an unhealthy obsession.  Just when I think I got it and I'm there, another wrench gets thrown into the mix.

In my opinion, if you're not OCD before you become a candlemaker then you will quickly become OCD. LOL

Had a gander through the Term and Conditions of the woooden wick co and decided to never use their products ever. I wonder how many of these "terms" are legal and enforceable.

    https://woodenwick.com/pages/terms-conditions

    NON-EXCLUSIVE LICENSE AGREEMENT

This License Agreement (hereinafter, “Agreement”) is a legal contract between you (either an individual or a single business entity, hereinafter referred to as “Licensee”) and Wood Candle Wick Technologies, Inc., a California corporation dba The Wooden Wick Co. (hereinafter, “Licensor”) for the Lumetique Wooden Wick Technology.

Here's an eye popper: Right to audit your business at will.

    1. Audit. Upon at least ten (10) Business Days prior written notice from Licensor, Licensor shall have the right, during normal business hours, to bring in any consultants and personnel it deems appropriate, including certified public accountants, to audit Licensee's books and records to ensure integrity and compliance with this Agreement. Licensee shall provide reasonable cooperation with such audit.

And another that prohibits you from buying/selling or using any other wick assumed under their patent umbrella. It also encompasses the provision of buying from someone other than WWCo. This could apply to destashing groups. You would become a criminal for offloading wicks you do not use, buying those you need. So, if your much needed wicks are backed up from their site, and you buy some in a pinch from a destash group or even a kind friend, well, you're in violation. Consequences? Not sure... Don't care to find out.

    1. Exclusivity. So long as Licensee is using the Lumetique Wooden Wick Technology, Licensee shall purchase wooden wicks exclusively from Licensor.  In addition, as of the effective date of this Agreement and so long as Licensee is using the Lumetique Wooden Wick Technology, Licensee shall only distribute, market and sell wooden wicks purchased from Licensor.

If you are working with stockists under a manufacturing agreement, they reserve the right to "out" you and the stockist.

    1. Right to Disclose.  Licensee agrees that Licensor may disclose in writing, or through use of Licensee’s logo(s), the identity of Licensee.

    Thoughts?

Thanks for shedding light on this. This is disturbing news, take about over reach and getting all up in your business. To be blunt, I can't stand and do not tolerate or go along with such nonsense, I don't need that in my life. Next thing you know they will claim a royalty fee on all their wicks that you sell in your candles. I've not been buying from this company and I certainly will not in the future now. I'm canceling them, LOL! 😄 Guess we should all start paying more attention to companies we deal with to see if they have crazy policies or terms.

I just started selling my candles yesterday and completely sold out! So I guess we’ll see what the public has to say - if they even notice or care as much as a crazy candle maker (me) hahah

Hey @lisamrtr, welcome to the candle club and congratulations on your sales, that's great! 🎉🥳

From the date of your post it looks like those were Christmas sales

I have a few questions, don't feel pressured to answer them but if you'd like to share your steps to success then we'd love to hear them. Thanks.

    Were you selling online?

Were you selling at a local Christmas market?

What part of the country are you in?

Did you advertise your candles, in-person or online?

If there were other candle sellers there, what made you stand out, what made people buy your candles instead of the others?

Do you have good branding and packaging that stands out?

What do you think made you successful?

    What was your sales strategy?

Have you defined your target market?

  5. I'm not an experienced candle/wax goods seller but after reading through this post, I have a few questions, maybe someone can shed some light.

    - How can selling single, inexpensive items that only cost a few dollars or say under $10 make a profit? Like wax melts, melt cups, candles < $10, etc. Referring to if that is the only item a buyer purchases. The shipping alone would almost cost as much as the product.

    - Wouldn't it be more productive and profitable to sell bundles or gift sets instead of single inexpensive items?

    - Are there shopping cart restrictions that make you purchase a certain amount? Other than their $35 for free shipping?

IDK. As a shopper I feel weird or guilty buying a single, inexpensive item online. I'd rather run to a local store and buy it.

Hey, Belinda.  I'm never too far away.  I sometimes pop in just to read, and "meet" the new faces, missing some of the old ones who have either moved on to other things in life, or who have moved on to a spiritual life 😔

It always feels so good to be here; it's like visiting with good ol' friends - and you certainly are one, Belinda!

I feel the same way @Ravens and @Belinda. Some days I think, wonder what my friends on Craft Server are up to or discussing today? I need to "grab a cup of coffee" and go visit them a while.  When I talk to my husband or friends about candle making seems like I'm always bringing up someone on here regarding something they shared or something they taught me. 😊 🕯️

Isn't it great to have a place like this where you can feel wanted, engage in interesting and intelligent conversations and learn something new or even some neat tips, tricks & ideas? So hey @TallTayl, thanks again for providing us all with a great place to gather. That reminds me, I need to make sure I updated my automatic donations for here for 2021.

I’d be dancing in the streets if I got more than one day 4-6 or even 8 hours!! I’ve never gotten throw on day two that warranted saving the melted cube pincer I pop it out. And I’ve tried so many different vendors (plus retail including the $$$ retail! Oh actually there is one brand I might get 2-4 hours on day two and they’re the Bridgewater Candles wax melts... and only two scents out of all of theirs.

This is an interesting discussion. Per the previous comment, I wonder if you have a really hot wax melter? Maybe that's why the fragrance in your melts don't last as long? 🤔

  8. That is an interesting article and it's good to be in the know but remember it is marketing and advertising. Is what they say really true or is it what they want to be true? You can't be sure but time and sales will tell. I don't buy into to all the "hype" they talk about. 🕯️

A flame in a flammable container?
What am I missing?  Is the bowl treated with something?  I mean, if there is seriously a 100% safe way to make candles in wooden vessels, my brain will explode from the possibilities, but it definitely defies my brand of logic.

    https://meltoncandlecompany.com/collections/farmhouse-collection/products/the-bowl

I agree about the wood bowls being a fire hazard and should not be used. Just because something looks pretty doesn't mean it's a good idea. Overall I wish them the best and success with their company.

    Some observations I made:

    - Well they claim to be sold out of all their products and only offering gift certificates right now. Which they state on their home page. Could be true, or they didn't have much inventory to begin with. Or it's simply a marketing tactic to look like their products are in such high demand which is kinda clever. Anyway, I like the gift certificate idea especially if you are low on stock.

    - I love the glass & ceramic containers they are using for their One of a Kind candles. Then again, I hope the ceramic ones have a safe sealant on them so they don't soak up wax like a wick.

Aw, just hangin' out all over Arizona, lol. Went up to Williams near the Grand Canyon, then to Camp Verde where we stayed on the Apache Nation rez for two months, now back in Lake Havasu for the entire winter. Our summer was too hot for candle making, so I hadn't been working on candle making. Just broke out the "candle factory" in here again, the air has cooled here in the low desert :) Fun to be back on here, I miss this place.

Awesome adventures, good for you. That's neat you live in AZ, I bet it's beautiful where you live. I love all the desert states, they are so interesting and beautiful in their own ways.

I’ve been using mica powder in my wax melts it looks lovely but when I use them in my burner the mica powder sticks to the bottom how do I stop this?

    Some other things to consider.

Could the issue have to do with using too much mica?

Could it be that particular wax melter doesn't have a good protective coating or has a porous surface?
