  1. I've read (somewhere) that if your mold is heated before pouring your batch in your chances of gelling are more likely. I never heat my mold but I do insulate with towels and blankets and still will not get gell all of the time. I might try heating the mold (it's a wood one) just to see if I do actually get a gell stage, but it's not important to me if I do or not. Something else to play with.

  2. I wish I could remember which site I got this from but I don't. I've tweeked this and come up with a real nice lotion. I especially like this with the addition of shea or mango. I don't use the full recommended amt. of Glycerin....and adding Cyclo makes for a nice smooth silky feel. I also add a preservative. HTH :cheesy2:

    Basic Lotion

Ratio is 1 part Emulsifying Wax, 6 parts Oil, 2 Parts

Glycerin, 12 parts water. Add fragrance or essential oil to

    your desired scent level.

    Example

    1 Ounce Emulsifying Wax

6 Ounces Oil (Sweet Almond, Avocado, Apricot Kernel,

Fractionated Coconut, Olive or Rice Bran)

    2 Ounces Glycerin

    12 Ounces Distilled Water

Fragrance or Essential Oil (recommend 0.2 to 0.4 ounces for

    this batch)

Heat the emulsifying wax, oil, and glycerin until wax is

barely melted and cool to 110-120 degrees. Add distilled

water and fragrance or essential oil. Blend with stick

blender or and mixer on low until texture is lotion-like,

    pour into bottles.

  3. I have batches that don't gel and they turn out just fine. They tend to be more opaque than the ones that gel but I like that. There was a post on The Whisk by someone (can't remember who) avoids the gel stage on every one of her batches so it must not be uncommon. HTH
