  1. the wax i used for the ombre was the same as the one in the pillar...blended paraffin wax the temperature was about 180 degrees F
  2. So will I get bubbles on them if the wax did not adhere? What is the best way to get the ombré effect...does the temperature of the wax matter and should I cool the candle in water between dips ?
  3. Hey guys I have done my basic candle making course with Gary Simmons in Nice,France I am looking to further my education with advanced techniques in candle making, packaging, getting the perfect finish ,consistency etc. Please do recommend courses/ workshops. If you guys could help me find an advanced course that would be great thanks
  4. Hey guys I made a batch of ombré pillar candles...they turned out beautiful to look at with the color gradation but I got a lot of bubbles on them once they cooled.Basically I dipped the white candle in colored wax waited for a few seconds then dipped again to a higher level. The bubbles appeared much later and don't look nice at all. I have attached the pics too i am also wondering why most people make container candles and not pillars...most of the info out there is for container candles...does anyone have any idea why this is so.... please help with the bubbles...I seem to struggle a lot with bubbles...first with my silicone moulds now with the ombré ...maybe I am doing something that is causing them to happen Also guys I am looking to further my education with candles, packaging, getting the perfect finish ,consistency etc. Please do recommend courses/ workshops
  5. Thank you guys ....It’s a superior quality silicone mold and the bubbles are appearing in all the ones I make in the silicone Molds....I spoke with my supplier he says it’s the wax blend which causes bubbles . I am planning to go and do some study on wax blends with him this Saturday... as I am also facing a lot of shrinkage and distortion if I make a tall candle eg a tall star candle it’s not perfect all the way thru ... at places mid way where the lines meet the shape gets warped and is not sharp. I hope it is only about the wax and it gets sorted. It’s so frustrating when after all the struggle and hard work you get a candle with either bubbles or is just warped...beginners frustrations and learnings I guess
  6. Hey guys Here I am again...frustrated as I am new to candle making and am making a lot of pillar candles with paraffin wax...which there is not a lot of info about. Most people make container candles and there is a lot of information about that...maybe I am looking in the wrong places... So I made some lotuses in a silicone mold...Paraffin wax poured at 190 F and got a lot of tiny bubbles on all the petals which gives the flower a whitish appearance.... not good at all... so I tried again and poured at a lower temperature and once again tiny white bubbles....what am I doing that is causing this...? If i now use a heat gun my flower will get warped and not be sharp anymore... please help..... I used mold release spray too and its a red flower which has white bubbles .....! awful looking....
  7. I used 1oz for 1 pound of wax...and I have used this FO before this too ....to make some sand candles , there was no discoloration at that time. It is not a very heavy scent either...
  8. Hey guys I was making a paraffin wax candle yesterday and noticed that the moment I poured in the FO (sea weed) it turned black at the bottom of my pot.I poured FO in !at 200 degrees F . My wax was a light pink color which turned muddy and dark...is it because of the temperature I poured the FO at...I guess it was too high! Does FO change the color of wax...making mistakes every day and learning everyday...any tips tricks and ideas please do let me know thanks u guys...a lot of serious candle makers out there with loads of knowledge and info...it's a great community where people take time out to help others...
  9. I am trying out melts...I read somewhere that soy wax does not have a good hot throw.I made some and faced the same issue.we don't get blends where I live... I am planning to try out some melts with beeswax.... Do I need to use coconut oil in it too. What proportion of FO ? Does anyone have a good blend / wax melt recipe that they don't mind sharing.... thanks guys
  10. Paraffin wax...thank you guys for all the wonderful replies so if the fragrance bleeds will the color bleed along with too. I used coffee FO... do you think it's that ?
  11. Thanks guys for your prompt replies I was using a tablespoon earlier but my supplier said to use 10%..thanks guys I will try reducing the quantity of both vybar and FO... the brown color seems to be a problem... it has way too much red in it... I was also told to add the color right in the beginning and to make the wax very hot and only then the color will mix well and I won't have a bleed..I am fairly new to candles so have been having all these challenges...
  12. I am using 10% vybar,90%paraffin.FO 5%.... mixed into wax at around 200 degrees. The color was not dark enough and had a reddish tint so I added a little black in it... the brown was a dye block and black was powder(which I used very little of). the color seems to have dried off now but if I touch the candle a bit of color comes off..
  13. I have bought the brown color in wax form... I used it to make some coffee candles.since I needed dark brown I used quite a bit of the color. I used paraffin wax and some vybar as the additive. When I de moulded my candle there was a lot of color at the bottom like a bleed and even though I tissued it off it still keeps coming off. I had also made some candles using the same color in coffee cups even then I saw a color bleed which is like color coming off off something ... long after I had made the candles...strange !Please help ....what I can do as I have an exhibition coming up and need to fix this asapThanks a ton in advance Quote Quote this
  14. I have some very basic questions as I am still a novice at candle making...only recently started making them.Because I am a beginner sometimes my finish is not great...sometimes the candle may get warped... My question is that is it ok to remelt and make a candle with the same wax over and over? Does it affect the burn of the candle ... If I have used FO and need to melt and make the candle again do I need to add more FO... Presently I am making paraffin wax candles with either some stearin or vybar. I live in India and we don't get blends here so I have to make the blend myself.I use paraffin with 10% of soft wax and about 5% of stearin. I have also been trying to figure out what is the best way to store candles as I have noticed yellowing in some of my white candles and color fading in some especially in the green color It would be great if someone can throw some light on this....
  15. I used kafir lime in the soy ones and orange in the paraffin ones. I bought the oils from a dealer who says they are meant for candles... I am not sure whether it's an EO or FO.,. It does not specify... I guess it's EO. its just pure paraffin wax with no additives i use a double boiler as I am fairly new at making candles and looking for a wax melter with a thermostat. We don't get those in India and I cannot get from the states as the voltage is not the same...
  16. Thank you guys for your response. The oils are candle fragrance oils and have a lovely scent but not enough throw...I used paraffin wax... not a blend.i saw a you tube video in which the lady said she mixes soy with paraffin but did not want to give out the proportion of each as it's a trade secret...
  17. I made some wax tarts with soy wax and felt the fragrance was too mild... It had a throw in a small area but not in a large room Then I read up that the throw is not so good with soy wax so I made some with paraffin wax ,I used some vybar to get a good throw ..... I used 30 mls of orange essential oil in about half kg of wax. It still does not have a good throw....please help! What am I doing wrong? The fragrance is there but not strong enough and does not cover the room.
