1. Thanks everyone! But you do realize that now that I know you like seeing my pics, you are soon going to be sooooooo sick to death of seeing my name in the candle gallery... Nope Michael, Cosmo is an Old English Sheepdog. With a gorgeous face, and personality to match!
2. Wow! Thanks for the compliments, guys! You have made my day!!
3. Hi All! I'm hoping one of you experts can help me. I made this three layer mottle last night and was pretty happy with the results for a first attempt, but there appears to be tiny, pin-prick size air bubbles on the top and bottom of the middle (gold) layer. They may not be too noticeable in the pic, but I would love to know what caused them. Are air bubbles caused by pouring too fast? I did tap the mold after pouring with each color... TIA! :smiley2:
4. Thanks Darwin! And because you love doggies, maybe you'll like the hurricane I made of one of my closest friends... Sorry it's so big!
5. Gorgeous, Jo! Especially the rustic. PLEASE come and show me how you do your tilted layers! I've been pulling my hair out of my head for over a month now, and simply CANNOT get my tilted layers to look the way yours do on your purple one. I can get them to work if they're going in the same direction... but once I try and be creative, and tilt them this way and that... I end up with a mess! :rolleyes2 Quick, come now! It's only 10 thousand or so miles from Sydney to Philly!
6. Thanks from me too, Judy! That chart will save me so much time, and save the neighbors from hearing my screams of frustration!
7. I tried doing the same thing Gretchen... but the WYW scents don't seem to be available in the sampler packs?! I really wanted to order the Vanilla Grapefruit, but can't find it in any of the scent lists for the sampler packs. Am I looking at the Bitter Creek scents, rather than WYW scents? Is it possible to order from WYW, even though I'm in the U.S?
8. I know I've been posting far too many pics lately, but I swear, these are the last of them for a while! I know there is ALOT of room for improvement... but I'm learning something new every day... and having an absolute ball doing it!
9. Something for my SIL who is moving into her very first house this weekend. Not one of my better efforts, but I think she'll like it. :undecided Scented Clean Cotton.
10. Wow. I'm speechless. As always, beautiful work, Donita. Like everybody here, I truly admire your talent and vision. :smiley2:
11. Scented Tuscan Nights (love this scent!!) and Sandalwood. Thanks for looking! Have a wonderful Memorial Day everybody!
12. I think it looks wonderful Christina! You sound just like me with your determination. I haven't been able to master tilted layers yet, but I swear, if I accomplish one thing and one thing only in this lifetime... it's going to be a tilted layer!!!!
13. I knew I should have waited for somebody to reply. Unfortunately, I was my usual impatient self this morning and placed my order not long after asking about the scents. And which one do you think I ordered? Yep... French Vanilla!!! :rolleyes2 LOL! Thanks anyway Jen! I'll remember the Warm Vanilla Sugar for next time. :smiley2:
14. Thanks guys! And here is the rustic burning... Hmmmmmm... on second look, it doesn't seem that great in the photo. :embarasse I swear, it looks so much better in real life!
15. I'm in the process of ordering a HUGE number of FO's from The Candle Source... but can't decide which vanilla scent to choose. It's a toss-up between French Vanilla, Vanilla Crunch and Warm Vanilla Sugar. After reading the reviews for this supplier, I couldn't wait to place my order, but nobody mentioned vanilla. Have any of you used any of these scents in candles? I don't use soy, paraffin blends only. TIA!
16. Flutterbye, your rustic is gorgeous! That's it, I just HAVE to have one of these molds. AC Moore sent me a 50% off coupon yesterday... I think it's time to go shopping!
17. Finally, something worthy of posting! Thank you Cybersix for the inspiration and direction for the rustic layer! And thank you also Scented... I added my FO (Tuscan Nights) for the rustic at the temp you suggested... and it smells WONDERFUL! Oh, and the mottle is scented with a mixture of Cool Citrus Basil and Sage and Lemongrass. :smiley2:
18. Okay, I think after trying every single candle imaginable, I've finally found my calling. I LOVE rustics!! My problem is... they have no (or very little) scent! The directions always state to add the fragrance oil to the wax just before pouring, so as to lessen the chance of evaporation. This I've been doing, but then I read somewhere that the wax should be fairly hot (sorry, I have no idea what temp was suggested). Because rustics are "cold pours" should I add my FO as soon as the wax has melted (hot) and run the risk of evaporation? Or wait until just before pouring, when the wax is cold? :undecided Lately I've been doing somewhere in the middle, but that doesn't seem to work either. Does the type of wax used make any difference? I'm using Candlewic's Pillar Blend and also their Mottling wax. TIA!
19. I know exactly what you're going through Bry, the same thing happened to me. My roomate like one of the little "experiments" I had sitting in the kitchen, and took it to work to put on her desk. A couple of people noticed it and wanted to know where it came from... the next thing you know, I have a dozen people wanting candles!!! I've only been at this a short while, and I've come to the conclusion that I suffer from performance anxiety... when I'm just playing around throwing this wax in, and that color in, the results are spectacular. The minute I know that the candle I'm making is for an actual person, and therefore HAS to be good... it's a disaster! Cheer up, you're certainly not alone! And I'm sure your candles are wonderful. We're often our own worst critic!
20. What a great idea, Kim! My better half is into scrapbooking, so we have roughly a gazillion stamps and colored inks. I can't wait to try this on my next hurricane!
21. They look great, Janette! I've always loved this style of candle, and yours are wonderful. Did you use the instructions that are in the "Techniques and Ideas" on the left?
22. My thoughts exactly!! A nice Australian chardonnay should do the trick...
23. Excuse my ignorance, Tracy... but what on earth does Dragon's Blood smell like?! In any case, great looking candle!
