  1. Will you be able to park your vehicle right at your booth? If not, do you have your products packed in plastic storage containers? If you have to store cardboard boxes of candles under your tables and it rains the bottom of your boxes will get wet...even with sides. I learned the hard way...set up at a street fair held in June and the weather was hot and humid. Late afternoon a brief thunderstorm moved through. I had boxes stacked under my tables and the ones on the bottom got soaked. You don't want the bottom to drop out and all of your stuff ruined or broken. Maggie
  2. I had to back out of a 2 day show that I've done for several years the first weekend of November. My FIL had just passed away a few days before and with the funeral and then cleaning out his apartment at the retirement village (they charged extra for each day his things were still there) it was just not possible for me to do it. I called the woman in charge and she was very sympathetic and said not to worry about it. Thanked me for calling ahead of time so she could put someone else in my spot. The Saturday morning of the show I was just getting my coat on to leave for the apartment...the phone rang. I have caller ID and saw that it was from the community center. I answered and she said...just checking to make sure you are coming. I said...Becky don't you remember me calling you on Monday. She almost swallowed the phone and could not get done apologizing. She said she had written it down but failed to put the note with the show layout. I said....I will see you next year and she said yes we want you here. Now...all of that said...not going because of the weather. I'm not sure how promoters feel since you DO sign up knowing it's held rain/shine/hot/cold. I set up in a blowing rain storm one time and after about an hour they told everyone to pack up and go home. They invited all of us who showed up to their fall show and we didn't have to pay. Maggie
  3. I have to agree with ChrisR. I DO like C&S for some things but not their fragrance oils. I too tried them way back and didn't have luck when I used paraffin. I would try samples from other suppliers. Maggie
  4. Try this for Keystone Candle Supply. It's not Keystone Candles and Supplies..... http://www.keystonecandlesupply.com/catalog.php?category=12 Maggie
  5. To me KY's smells just like Hershey's chocolate. I normally can't sell chocolate candles...but at last week's craft show everyone was sniffing the Hot Cocoa candles and saying how great they smelled. To my surprise I sold all that I had taken. Maggie
  6. Have you talked to someone at Candlewic about your problems? My experience with their customer service has always been great. I don't use their Feathering Pillar Wax but I've started using their Crystalizing Palm Pillar wax and when I had some questions I emailed and Bill Binder responded with the answers. HTH some. Maggie
  7. Ya know...I read your post earlier this morning and have been thinking about it. Several times I have placed fundraiser orders and haven't got the things the day it was supposed to be delivered. I NEVER would think to call someone and curse them out. Why aren't they calling the lady in charge? Sounds like they might be and she is putting the blame on you. If this happened to me...I would be calling this lady that was in charge and giving her quite an unpleasant earfull. Maggie
  8. I bought a Wagner at Lowes about 4 years ago and it's still going strong. I use it a lot. Now I probably jinxed myself.....LOL Maggie
  9. I have to agree with KarenOH on the Spiced Apple Pecan. I so wanted it to work in my soy/paraffin blend. It didn't throw well at all. And IMO the OOB smell was weak too. I wish I could find a good one...I loved Spicy Apple & Nuts from...I think it was Southern Candle Supply in TX. And then she closed. Maggie
  10. Sorry to butt in here.....LOL. IMO the best Cranberry Orange Spice is Snowtop's now found at ICS. Maggie
  11. I've ordered a lot from NG over the years. Used to use their Joy wax. Never have had a complaint about their customer service or their products. But...have you checked out Candlewic's site? They sell palm container wax. I use their palm pillar wax and I love it. They are located close to Philly so I don't think shipping would be as much to you in NY opposed to NG being in OH. http://www.candlewic.com/store/category.aspx?q=cPalm Maggie
  12. Stay with their Ultimate line for sure. When I first started...almost 7 years ago...I ordered from their regular line and let's just say I was really disappointed. I use a blend...KY Perfect Blend and 50/50 wax. Using 8% FO the ones that throw really well are Sand & Sea Spray (really love this one), Sage & Cinnamon (Yank## type) and after a longer cure time the Toffee Cinnamon Apple throws great. The Spiced Vanilla (Body Shop type) threw pretty good but I wanted it more for lotion and will eventually test in my votive/tart wax. What did not throw well at all for me is their Fresh Vanilla and Bartlett Pear. Sun Ripened Raspberry throws great but...to my nose it is not an exact dupe of B&BW. The best and closest SRR that I ever poured was from Sweetcakes. Maggie
  13. I just double checked the address on my postcard. It was addresed to my real name only...NOT my business name. Some supplier's ask for your company name and others don't. Since I order from so many I can't remember who does and who doesn't. But it looks like IF a supplier did give out a list...its one that ONLY has my real name. Every so often I will get a postcard about a sale from At Wix End. That does not bother me since I order from them. Maggie
  14. I received a postcard on Monday from them too. I've been on their site a few times but have never ordered from them. Maggie
  15. I remember your original post. You posted the pictures of his space in a craft mall. The fighter in me would say...do I know anyone that lives close enough that could stop by his space in the craft mall? And then the other side of me would say...scammed and this WON'T happen again. Sorry it didn't work out the way you were hoping. Maggie
  16. You got that right Chris. Back in 2000 I bought my first candlemaking kit from Missy's. I can't even remember now what scents I poured. LOL Anyway...I was searching for suppliers in PA and found CW. I wanted a good Banana Nut Bread and ordered theirs......OMG. It was awful...smelled like something burning in your oven. Then when they came out with their Ultimate Line I remember everyone saying how good the Red Apple Peel was so I gave them another chance. What a difference. I love their prices on a lot of other things but will only test and use their Ultimate line of fragrances in my candles. Maggie
  17. I just had an order from Candlewic shipped to me a few weeks ago. I live about 100 miles from them. My shipping was $17.62 for a 50 lb. box of wax, a 10 lb. slab of wax, 2 metal molds, 1 lb. of M&P soap, 2 lbs. of fragrance oil, 2 1 oz. samples of fragrance oil, and the 25 plastic votive molds that you got free for placing an order over a certain amount. I can pick up at Fillmore and would love to someday drive to Candlewic. Only problem with that is...I'm afraid I would leave there broke. Maggie
  18. CW's Red Apple Peel.......I used this one a LONG time ago. It was highly recommended on the old TSR by several people. I poured it back when I used paraffin. For a while I was using CW's CBL waxes. Then I switched to straight paraffin with additives. I've been using the apple from FH...think it's Red Delicious Apple and it throws really well in my blend. Don't you use FH 50/50? You might want to give hers a try. And...throw a sample of CW's in your cart too. LOL...it's only money........ Maggie
  19. I've added Sage & Cinnamon and Vanilla Spice type to my LONG list of fragrances. I've never sniffed Yank##'s S&C so don't know if it's an exact dupe. But this one throws great in my blend of Perfect Blend/50/50 wax. The Vanilla Spice...I poured a flowerpot votive and the throw was good. I made lotion with this the other day...really yummy. The Gingerbread Spice Cake needed a longer cure time...over a week. I really like it...my hubby hates it. LOL Toffee Cinnamon Apple smells great but I'm not getting a real good hot throw. I had it burning last night and asked hubby if he could smell it...since I have a cold. He said faintly. I just got the Sugared Vanilla Shortbread the other day...haven't had a chance to pour it yet. Their Pumpkin Ginger Streusel smells great OOB...but of course you can't rely on OOB reviews. You might want to throw a sample of Sand & Sea Spray in your cart. This is my new favorite...at the moment. Maggie
  20. This could very well be legit...and then again not. I would first do a reverse phone number search online and see what you find. Also...I would never allow a stranger to come to my home to pick up products. As much as you want something to work out...be careful. I would do a bit of checking...like where is the small store and the craft mall. I would ask him when he is going to be in his store and offer to drop them off there. Maggie
  21. Good point Bruce. Someone had posted on the old TSR a good way to remember is the word PRO. Polypropylene is good...polyethylene will absorb the scent. Maggie
  22. Uh Stella...... I'd say you have no tact either. I've been using soy and soy paraffin blends for a LONG time so I do know all about candles curing. And you missed the point about my tart altogether...DUH. As was pointed out to you by ChrisR and Carrie. I don't think it's worth my while to point it out again....... Maggie
  23. HUH??? I've never heard of this concept in the 6 years I've been pouring candles and tarts. If your tarts have a weak or no cold throw how can you expect customers to buy them if they can't smell them? I must be really missing something here. I have tarts that I made for myself last Christmas and have had one sitting in my tart burner since then...unwrapped...and it still has a good cold throw. According to your theory then this tart is still not cured? Maggie
  24. I think the first step would be contact Golden Foods and ask them how much wax you would have to order. And then of course check with people here on this board to see how many would buy wax from you. There was someone in my area that started supplying their wax and she had told me that she had to buy a pallet. I think she was selling 3 different types of their wax...464, 415 and their soy/cottoneseed blend and had bought a pallet of each. After I had tested the 464 I called to order and told her I would pick it up...she said she only had 1/2 a case left but she had a lot of the others and would not be ordering more 464 at the time. She said she had to sell the others before she could pay for the next order. Sooooooo I decided to stick with what I've been using. I'm slowly testing the C-3 because I can pick it up too. I THINK she had told me that a pallet could be a mix of different cases/types of their wax. HTH some...and this info was given to me before last Christmas so maybe things have changed. I would call them to discuss. Maggie
  25. Awe come on......it's not that bad. J/K They aren't too far from me...last time I was there I think it was December. I think the worst part of the drive is leaving their building and that left turn at the stop sign. You can't see if someone is coming up that hill to the right. I really need to get back there and sniff their fragrances. Will wait till they get their Christmas oils in stock. They are the nicest people...and did you notice how spotless the whole place is? Maggie
