  1. I'm not sure why but I always had to wick up from wick recommendations using 444. It's the only wax I've ever used but if I used a CD 10 in a jelly jar it would tunnel and struggle to stay lit. A 12 might work, but a 14 most definitely works.
  2. I've never used CSN's buy I use 444 and CD wicks worked for me as well. CD 14 in particular.
  3. I've only tried one coffee scent so far and that's mocha cappuccino from the Candle Makers store. It smells awesome and has a super strong ht and ct at 8% in GW 444. It'll scent an entire floor of a home. Very rich and complex scent.
  4. Hi. I'm relatively new to candlemaking. I started about 3-4 years ago as a hobby. I always burned candles at home and work and I hated throwing away the candle containers so I always kept them. I also burned a lot of candles that left behind excess wax. One day I got the bright idea to make a layered candle from the remnants of all my old candles. I looked up a DIY vid on youtube and it started from there. I'm a hairdresser with my own studio. I started giving away homemade candles as Christmas and birthday gifts to my clients. Soon they started making orders and telling me that I should sell them. So I did start selling them a few months ago around October 2015. It's been going well. I'm not very consistent because it's just a side hobby but I'm wanting to build on it. I live in the Cincinnati area and I do a lot of shopping at the Candle Makers store. I use GW444. I've also ordered fragrances from AH/RE, Peak, CC and NG. If anyone has any recommendations on really strong fragrances that work in 444, please let me know. I like to make them strong because a few of my clients also have hair and nail studios and we need scents that will overpower all the products we work with doing our jobs. Currently I add fragrance at 180-185, pour when it starts to cling to the sides. I use old salsa jars, old candle containers, (anything that has a lid and can be cleaned and reused) and I have purchased mason jar mugs as containers for the candles I sell. I use CD wicks. I've been lurking this site for a long time. I'm still more of a lurker with a few random posts scattered in. Please feel free to contact me with any tips or things you've learned along the way. I personally like bakery, berry, citrus, herbal, tropical fruit scents. My personal favorite candle is Volcano. I'm not that picky as long as it's powerful I'll be impressed. I'm not a huge fan of floral unless it's mixed with something else. I'm trying to keep in mind that not everyone likes the same things as me and make more of a variety. Thanks for reading my novella .
  5. I love KY creme brulee from AH/RE. It's selling like crazy. I use it in gw444 container candles.
  6. I've tried Monkey bomb -smells great, awesome cold and hot throw. Mocha cappuchino - extremely strong, great smell Orange danish - awesome, buttery, crusty, light on the orange scent, good hot and cold throw Lick me all over - passionate kisses, smells like Victoria's secret love spell] Very strong Chocolate covered Cherry - very True to the name. Extremely strong. Sugar cookie - very disappointed. Smelled just like lemon and it was weak. Renas spiced orange- good on the spice low on the Orange Wedding cake -nice scent weak throw I use gw444
  7. Well I emailed the owner of the candle makers store about the lemon-smelling vanilla cupcake fragrance. He wouldn't agree to an exhange or a refund. I think its pretty ridiculous that he'd be willing to lose a fragrance client who has spent hundreds with his business over a $2.45 sample. I won't be buying anymore samples from there. If you can't judge the fragrance from the name and there is no description of the fragrance then I'm not willing to risk it anymore. I've purchased from candle cacoon, peak, natures garden, and rustic essestials. I liked their fragrances, websites, and customer service better. Guess I'm stuck paying shipping charges now
  8. I just picked up an order from The Candlemakers Store. I received a free gift as well and chose birthday cake. Kinda disappointed with it oob it smells very weak. The sugar cookie sample smelled like air oob. The vanilla cupcake sample smells like lemon oob. I just emailed the owner and I'm hoping to get an exchange for the vanilla cupcake. There are no descriptions, so how could I possibly know it would smell like lemon??? I've had good results with: Monkey bomb Mocha cappuccino Chocolate covered cherries Rose petals Lick me all over Love spell There are many other samples and sale size 4oz oils I oredered that smelled good and strong oob. I'm have high hopes for those
  9. I live nearby there and I really like their customer service and many of their fragrances. My favorite is Monkey Bomb. It smells so wonderful and fresh yet strong. My sister said she thinks it should be called Apricot. I use oz/lb and it is STRONG in GW 444 wax. I also loved their Mocha Cappucchino. I also used GW 444 at 9% though. It smelled rich and deliscious. It was strong enough to smell up the whole apt. I've tried a Vanilla Jamaican Coffee from another supplier and my bf and I much preffered the one from the candlemaker's store. Chocolate covered cherries also had an awesome hot throw in GW 444 and it was very rich and powerful. STRONG hot throw. I've tried many other of their fragrances but didn't get to experience them because of they were gifts. The cold throw of the lime verbena was extremely strong though. The woman I gave the gift to said they don't even need to burn it because it scents up the whole room without being lit and they want to save it.
  10. I purchased from the candlemaker's store first. Lots of spice and holiday scents to give away for Christmas. I had good success with the ones I smelled burning. Monkey bomb, red hot cinnamon, mocha cappuccino, had awesome hot throws. Orange cranberry spice was great too. I didn't smell most of the others burning because they were gifts (I did get good reports thought). But the cold throws seemed stronger than CC's fragrances. But I did use a higher % FO with the candlemaker's store. At least 1lb per oz. Sometimes more. I have some banana nut bread from CC that I haven't poured yet. I'm going to try a higher % than she recommends on that one and see what happens.
  11. I've tried a few of the fragrances and have had trouble with throw as well. The fragrances smell deliscious, I just wish they were stronger. I haven't been able to get them to fill up a room the way I'd like. So far I've burned the chai latte, and the blatantly blueberry. The vanilla voodoo, mulberry and moonbeams, frankincense and myrrh, melon fig and apricot, and lavender lullaby candles are all still waiting to be burned. I used the highest percentages on the range listed on the bottles. I'm wishing I'd used more now. The vanilla and lavender ones have a weak cold throw. The others are stronger so I have high hopes for them. I added at 180 and I use gb444. I've only been making candles now for about 4 weeks. Given the great reviews on CC FO's, I was thinking maybe I'm doing something wrong.
