    Hi I prime my flat braid wicks to make it easier to fit into the candle. I've never tried without priming so I don't know if it would affect the burn. Also, after priming, I twist the flatbraids, it seems to make for a more even melt pool. hth Sharon

    After much testing (and a lot of help from this board), I finally have wicking down for a 3" pillar. I've read about power burning to test the candle also, but I'm not sure what to look for. Do you trim the wick at all, and is it just to make sure that the candle is safe if someone leaves it burning for hours and hours? Thanks Sharon

    I use silicon spoons and spatulas. They cost about two or three dollars and are heat resistant to 450* which make them easy to clean with a heat gun.

    Thanks all for the help! I made the votives using just the beeswax and 3% fragrance (Peaks French Vanilla) and no dye. I had to put them in the fridge for a bit to get the wick pins out, but they came out of the votive cups alright - thanks to a liberal dose of Pam spray. I understand now about not leaving any beeswax in the pouring pot - it was difficult enough trying to clean it right away! And now for the test burning- Thanks again Sharon

    Thanks all! I'm still pretty new at this and was wanting to try different waxes. I was reading the posts in the archives (and looking at HenryK's wonderful pictures) of beeswax candles and got hooked. Sharon

    Hi Connie I'm just learning about beeswax also, but from what I've read square braid wick is the one that works best. Most sites I've looked at suggest a #4/0 or #5/0 for that diameter pillar. Hope this helps Sharon

    I'm going to try to make beeswax votives and read on another site that heating the wax in aluminum pots will ruin the wax. I was wondering if anyone else had heard of this and if I should use glass instead? Thanks, Sharon
