  1. Yeah...I'd still give it a little longer...the entire thing should look like vaseline soon. It sounds to me like it's not done 'cooking' yet. Once the zap is gone, it should be fine. I've only done a few crock pot soaps, but this sounds like how it happens.
  2. Pretty soap! It probably will still discolor. Sometimes I find the outside of the log discolors, but the inside doesn't until a few days after it's been cut.
  3. Yeah...the batch that fizzed likely won't fizz again...at least not much. Once the citric is activated, it's done. I leave my citric to the very last minute and stir like crazy. Your mixture can't be too wet either or they will start to fizz immediately
  4. Citric acid makes my bathbombs "whizz"...sometimes they float and sometimes they don't. I don't know why some do float and some don't I think you have to whip soap to make it float. I've never tried whipped soap yet, but from what I've read you whip air into it and this is what makes it float. I've never heard of additives being added to make it float.
  5. Yup...welcome to the world of ricing! Florals are notorious for it....unless they just seize up completely and you get "soap on a stick"!!!
  6. Same here...I like the creaminess it give to soap. And milk is good for the skin.
  7. I do CPOP and the only difference from regular CP is that you are forcing gel by putting the soap in a low temperature oven. Once the soap is poured into the mold, I pop it in a 170 degree oven for two hours. After two hours I turn the oven off, but leave the soap in the oven overnight (don't open the oven door or you let all the heat escape). Some people leave it in the oven for longer, but two hours cooked and then left overnight has always been enough for me to achieve complete gel. HTH,:smiley2:
  8. I use Monoi in my hair, but only as a deep conditioner. About once every 1-2 weeks, I lube up my hair with Monoi, wrap it in a towel and go to bed. Wash it out in the morning. It makes my hair so soft and silky.
  9. Heather, I leave mine in a 175 degree oven for one hour and then turn the oven off, leaving the soap in the oven overnight. I would think that if you "cooked" it your normal way and maybe left it in for 2-4 hours, it would be okay. It should be all done by the time you're ready to cook dinner. You might get partial gel if it's not left long enough to gel.
  10. Mylar works great! Just wash it and it's ready for the next batch.
  11. I'm glad to see this thread as I'm having the same trouble! Off to look for stickems...
  12. I got mine at Kangaroo Blue....great service!
  13. I had thought perhaps mineral oil....I'm thinking I must've read that somewhere too!! Hmmm...never thought of Crisco!
  14. I've been asked to make floating candles for my step sister's prom in June. They have a scent free policy in their school because of allergies, so they have to be unscented. I will be using the same scallop mold that I used for my tarts. The one and only time I tried unscented candles, it was votives and they were awful. They got stuck in the mold and wouldn't release from the wick pin. They didn't burn right and the only thing that was different than my regular votives was the lack of FO. Is there something you add to the wax to make up the difference of having no FO? I use IGI 4794 (votive), 4625 (pillar) and 4786 (container). I will likely use the 4794 for these floating candles. TIA,
  15. Terri, I'm at work so I don't have my exact recipe in front of me, but that looks like a lot of oil for that size recipe. Too much oil will keep them from hardening up. Just a guess, but for that size recipe, I would say 1 tbsp. of oil would be plenty.
  16. With using real goat's milk, I have a hard time keeping it light. It always turns creamy/brownish. I always seem to 'burn' it a little when mixing it with the lye. I can keep it very light cream color, however, by using powdered goat's milk added at trace.
  17. bohunk=Beth=some friggin' amazing recipes!!!
  18. I use a combo of Monoi and good ol' olive oil....the olive helps with my itchy/flaky scalp too!
  19. I use Soapmaker and ran it through...with a 5% discount it says to use 6.18 oz. of lye and 15.17 oz. of water (no water discount). I think Cindy's may be a typo...I ran it through soapcalc too and it also lists 6.18 oz of lye. (not 6.81 as listed):smiley2: Sue, you may be just a tad high on the water amount, but it certainly should harden up nicely after a bit of cure time.
  20. I just made whipped shea for the first time recently. I whipped mine in the Kitchenaid mixer for about thirty minutes and the texture is so velvety soft!!
  21. At this year's Christmas sales, I'd like to do things a bit differently with my votives. I usually wrap them individually and I offer a discount on a cello package of six of the same scent. This year, I'd like to do the cello packages of six with 2 each of 3 different scents. I would use similar scents for each package, all fruity...all spicy...all flowery. Even with doing that, is it going to be a problem with the scents mingling with each other. I know when they burn they will smell correct, but will they all smell the same fresh out of the package?
  22. I use a knife to scrape off the amount I need. I do small batches, so it's pretty easy to do it that way. If I did bigger batches, I'd probably use a grater and weigh it.
  23. Beautiful....fits the name perfectly!
