  1. Hello I am looking for an apothecary style jar, with a 3 1/4" diameter or less. Most of the ones I have and that I have found are 4". Any ideas? TIA
  2. I'm not a big fan of the HTP wicks... They are ok. I've been using CD wicks going on 8 years now so my judgement is a bit colored there. Lol I did another pour today with a different blend % and 6% FO and same blend but 9% just for kicks. The cd10 should get it, so I set up cd6 to cd12 just in case. I'm surprised the cd8 didn't do it, but then I have a friend that does 6006 with cd12 in this jar.
  3. Good luck dealing with the Jar Store. I will never ever buy from them again. We use to use honey pot jars - nice & different. When I got my 2 pallets of jars over 50% were broken. The jar store did make that good. Then we find out that the lids they sent were a touch snug, not a big deal until you tried to get it off a full container. I was sued 3 times that year because people were slicing themselves up. The lid would cause the jar to break, not every time but enough to get me in trouble. The jar store people didn't care, said I did something wrong. Be careful, most of the jars from them are from china - which is not normally bad but I believe they have quality control issues.
  4. That is a very interesting comment. I wonder if it is true or not. I always believed that the wider the mouth of the container, and a good melt pool was all you needed for good through.
  5. Wellington Fragrance has an awesome Mulberry. I've used it, successfully, in 4627, 4639, 4627, 4786, and Palm wax. I only use their Premium line, and I have yet to find a fragrance that doesn't throw well.
  6. There are two different presto pots. # 06006 # 06003 I believe that the 06006 is the bigger of the two.
  7. Well, not quite a week but close enough for me. Visibly there are wet spots, and due to the mixture the wax does not "pop" away from the glass wall like it would if it was straight 4794. Touch / fingertip the wax felt fairly solid, no fingerprint like if it would be straight 4630 / 4627. I used CD wicks (7 & 8), since that is what I like with the softer waxes. I burned the jelly jars for 3 hours, nice burns actually. They did not reach the glass though. I have noticed when burning 4786/4630 combination the wax takes on a really funky texture. Imagine staring straight down at the wick looking at the melt pool. The wax looks like it has a wormy, grainy, brainy appearance. The 4794/4630 & the 4794/4627 wax did not have this appearance. I will continue to burn to see how it does, if it catches up on the jar, etc. As for hot throw I have my wife test for that at work, my nose is pretty much dead by now. Lol I do wonder what a 4794/4627 50/50 mix with 10% FO would be like - if it could burn cleanly. I personally keep most candles between 4-6% but I am curious.
  8. I just wanted to say that I checked out your website, I love your candle labeling. Any secrets, tips, hints, etc on the coconut/apricot waxes would be appreciated. I am going o call cal candle and accu blend tomorrow - maybe I can get them to let me be a distributor. Lol
  9. Thank you Beth. I will order up a sample from them, I need something new to play with. Though, I am concerned that there is not many suppliers for this and none on the East coast. Maybe it is still "new" rather than a fad.
  10. If you can not get the zinc wicks to perform like you want I would suggest trying the CD wicks next. Some people do find the HTP wicks to be better, but I have much better luck with CD.
  11. That would be very neat as I have tried to wick my apothecaries 4" diameter with CD wicks clear up to the 20. Can't be done with the 4627, unless you either like soot, or don't mind a lot of hang. I've tried to single wick the same jar with 4627 using LX wicks, no dice. I did notice that some of the LX wicks actually make the glass hotter than the CDs for similar size.
  12. I wonder how well these would do with 4627 & 4630 - as far as getting the extra inch and cleaner burn.
  13. Not sure which jars you are using but I have a lot of good results using RRD wicks. I do have to double wick the larger jars, 3 1/2"+. I did recently purchase some CSN wicks to try. It did take me awhile to figure out RRD for my pillars, gotta watch the burn times.
  14. Has anyone heard of using coconut wax to make candles with? I was doing a search earlier for blended waxes and suppliers and came across http://www.voluspa.com/ anyway, curiousity caused me to do some searching for coconut wax, suppliers, users, etc. Really is not much out there. http://www.swanscandles.com/store/index.html was the only supplier that popped up, quickly, showing they carried the coconut wax. $26.95 for 11 pound slab. I am more curious than anything else since I have never heard of using coconut wax (i knew of oil but not wax) to make candles.
  15. I did a search and I'm not coming up with much except for a few that are very country style. Hearts, and stuff. Nothing wrong with that look, just not for my http://www.kmg-inc.com/ has a few examples. I was hoping to find something a little more sophisticated / elegant. http://www.yankeecandle.com/detail/1127016?utm_campaign=bazaarvoice&utm_medium=SearchVoice&utm_source=RatingsAndReviews&utm_content=Default Grrr.... Having issues using the insert link button. Weird. The links work.
  16. I have been doing some research on the Palm wax and thinking of giving it a go again. It's been a few years since I have truly made some with a serious purpose. What I have found so far, is to buy the csn wicks from candle science and get the wax from Peaks. Peaks has the best price on the wax, hopefully they wont look.... maybe they just get a really good deal on it. Candlewic is closer to me, so shipping may be a bit cheaper, but I get leery buying someone else's "proprietary" wax blend. Ive dont that in the past and got burned because that person sold their business and certain items were no longer available. I would just purchase a small 10 pound bag of each to start with from a couple of suppliers and start testing.
  17. The bowtie wick clips are, in my humble opinion, the best. I have never had the issue you are describing though with any of my paraffin waxes. http://www.candlewic.com/Store/Product.aspx?q=c27,p1161 Peak does sell some really nifty wick holders that are made of plastic. http://www.peakcandle.com/category/Miscellaneous.aspx at the bottom of the miscellaneous page you should see two of them, they offer a total of four. I wish someone had something for the darn 9oz Hex jar. I usually end up bending some bowties, and putting them on upside down and hoping they dont get knocked.
  18. Hello & Welcome to the Show Palm candles are awesome looking - one of my all time favorites. Hopefully someone near you has it & at a good price. As far as being authorized into other areas I believe you have to have so many posts and be a member of the board for 30 days or so.
  19. LOL Way too funny. If only I had thought of that years ago, I could have kept the zincs.
  20. Another reason to make sure your insurance policy is always up to date.
  21. I have always wanted to try the carved candles, but I never seem to find the time. The more you do, the better you will get - pretty yellow.
  22. I have several scents from Wellington Fragrance that are still good, after 5 years. I only ever buy the Premium grade from them. The Manufacturers grade is ok, but I definately noticed a difference in power between the two. I bought some 25 pounders and never used it all (baby powder - yuck...). I also, unfortunately have some fragrances from Candles & Supplies that are less than a year old and they are garbage already. Having said that I do have 1 or 2 from C&S that are still good after 1.5 years.
  23. Maybe we will get lucky and Blacktie Affair will chime in. I know that they use (or use to) 4794 for everything, including container candles. I did try, once upon a time, to use 4794 in containers with no blending. It did pull away from the jars, which helped with the look, not much of a rattle noise. The problem I had was finding a wick for it. I absolutely loathe zinc wicks. They do work, but i just don't care for them.... I went ahead and poured some jelly jars tonight with the 4794+4630 & the 4794+4627. I kept them at a 60/40 and 6% FO load for the moment. I know how the 4630 & 4627 burns straight, so it will be interesting to see how they turn out. Shame I have to wait a week to test....
  24. Truly, I am unaware of what the true FO load is for 4794. I have used anywhere from 3% clear up to 9% with no issues of seepage, bleed, greasiness, etc. Since it is formulated for votives - which is just a container candle needing a jar is what made me think of it. 4794 is "preprogrammed" to melt fast for a quick melt pool. Right?
  25. Their website does say 4786 & 4633 with a 60/40 ratio. On IGI's website, the 4786 & 4633 have a similar description, including vibrant colors. So maybe they are closer in makeup than the 4630. Anyway, I'm interested in the 4794 not the 4786. The reason is that I use to use straight 4794 wax for tarts, till I got the clam shells. I wanted to soften the wax a touch to make it easier to pop out of the clams. So I did a mix of 4794 & 4630 at a 75/25 ratio. They pop out nicely and when compared to the straight 4794 seem to have a better hot scent throw & last longer. Intrigued, I set out to make clams with the same ratio but with 4786 & 4630. My thought was container wax both ways gots to be better. They do remove from clams as easy as the other mix - but - they do not throw as well. So - I am wondering about making some containers with 4794 & 4630 and another with 4794 & 4627. What I should do is just buy some 2281 or another similar base / scale wax and make my own blend instead of trying to create one with two other blends. Truth be told, I love the scent throw of my 4627 but I am getting tired of it and I want to change to a harder wax that will sneer at fingers being pressed on it.
