My new custom mold for ED liner

Haven't used either yet. I got the ED silicone liner mold just last week and the custom mold yesterday. Hope to break them in this weekend!

If you look at the pictures I showed the lid right side up and upside down so you could see how they made it. It fits snugly on top and doesn't slide.

That's a very good looking set-up, Candy.

I bought several heavy silicone molds from Brambleberry . The sides are reinforced so a wood frame isn't required, but in my opinion it's a little bit of a project to achieve release even with M&P. I might be full of hooey, but that's my impression.

It's also my impression from looking at the photos you posted that the lid sits nicely on the frame rather than sliding into a groove.

It looks like I may be adding yet more items to my ever-growing shopping list. Does anyone know where I might be able to sell a kidney? I went to the sperm bank at a reproductive services facility, but the receptionist just broke into hysterical laughter when she looked down at me in my wheelchair.

Boy! Talk about having your feelings hurt. I never even got the chance to show her a photo of my daughter and grandchildren!

Ha ha! Dave. No reason to sell a kidney. I bought the liner and custom mold because they are both cheap (as far as soap molds go!) or at least the cheapest I can find but still great quality and craftmanship. I didn't have any log molds yet and was looking for a cheaper option. This way I can buy more as I go and not have to cough up a lung.... or sell a kidney. LOL

The wood mold is made from poplar and is lightweight compared to my other wood molds. But then it is also smaller than my 5-6 lb slab molds made of birch I think. Got them at BB. Pricey but worth it.

I feel spoiled now. Now I just want wood molds with liner. Can you tell I hate lining wood molds?!!

Nearly all of my "gal pal" soapers virtually say the same thing about "wallpapering" wooden molds.

I'll just take their advice and never personally "enjoy" the experience.

My B-Day is this September. I may just start hinting to my DW that; "Candy really has a sweet box mold!"

I wonder what her reaction will be?

Candy, how easy do you think it will be to get the mold out of the box with soap in it? With other molds there are screws to remove a side or two. Wondering if you might have to put a bit of saran wrap or freezer wrap between the wood and silicone liner so you can lift out the mold. I really like the box though.

Dave yeah, if you accidentally on purpose left off the last word of the hint, you might have yourself a good argument going! :)

Actually I told her when she got home. She just laughed and walked away mumbling something that sounded like; "What doesn't get up, doesn't get out!"

I'm not sure what she meant by it, but I'm certain it wasn't flattering.

Today hasn't been one of my better days. First her cat takes a dump in my bed and then she insults my manhood. I feel like Rodney Dangerfield. I get no respect! No respect at all.

See if I make her anymore soap! I'm buying the silicone mold and custom frame, too!

I was wondering about that myself. But on closer inspection there is a slight space at the long end of the mold on both sides between the liner and wood so the liner can slip out. Hoping I have time to try it out this weekend.

Also, the box the mold comes in is a tight fit compared to the custom mold. Others who use the box to hold the sides of the silicone liner say the soap slips right out of the mold. So I'm thinking if you can get the soap out of the mold thats in the box I should be able to do it too from my wood mold that has a slip space. Hope that makes sense.

I guess I will find out soon enough.

The only complaint I have about ED's silicone mold is I wish they made a bigger one. I need to make at least 16-18 bars per batch and this one only makes eleven 1" bars. Means I already need more molds.

That's why I bought three of them (not to mention the free cocoa butter) for that low price. I like that the molds are bottom heavy and heavier on the ends, which makes them very stable. I understand why they left the sides flexible for easy release and did not have any issues with bulging out while in the box. It's well thought out and modest in price IMHO. I just wished someone would figure out a good slab mold. My soap sticks like glue to my Kelsi and seems to get worse with age instead of better. If someone could coat the dividers with silicone that would be awesome.

Steve- I bought 2 of the 18 bar slab molds from BB for myself for Christmas. I also splurged and bought the dividers set for both of them. I just flip the mold over and the soap slab falls out. Think of flipping a cake upside down onto a plate.

Then I slide the end dividers off one by one. Then grab the ends of the inside dividers and slip them out of the soap one by one. Its pretty easy and no soap to cut. But I do use castor oil and have sticky soap for several days so I tend to wait to unmold the next day. If I know its going to be extra sticky soap I put it in the fridge for half an hour before unmolding. I love these molds!

Now I am eyeballing the 36 bar production mold. I would love a couple of those!

BTW-- I love the lb of free cocoa butter ED gives you with each mold! I always get a free gift from ED. Something I can really use.

I finally got to use my new ED mold today. I made a bastile with a water discount and its all covered for the night. Will take a peek at it tomorrow and see if its hard enough to unmold. I hope trying it out the first time with a castile type soap wasn't a mistake. But I have an order to fill and they asked for this soap so I went ahead with it.

I am also dying to try out my new soap cutter from soapmakingresource. Its my first professional wood cutter. I got both the straight and crinkle blades with the wood cutter.

Its official. I LOVE this mold!

This morning I flipped the box mold over and the whole liner came out easy. I was able to pop out the soap block from the ED liner with little effort. Woohoo! I want more of these!! This is the easiest soap demolding I've ever done! and this was with a high volume olive oil castile soap. Its still pretty soft today.

Just wish the mold was bigger (longer).

Shout out to Steve for help on the oil weight for my recipe. 34oz was perfect just like you said!!!

I cut the soap yesterday from my mold for the first time. I used 1" and ended up with ten 1" bars and one that was more of a 1/2" bar. This mold is supposed to give me eleven 1" bars with 1/4" to spare so I can just shave the ends off.

The 10 1" bars are all exactly 4.25oz. Don't know what their wt will be 6 weeks from now but assume slightly less than 4 oz. I may adjust and add 1-2oz to the recipe to compensate. Already I have reset my soap cutter to 9/10's of an inch or just under one inch. Will have to keep playing with it til I get the measurements and soap weight just right for eleven bars. Sigh. Eleven soaps just aren't enough. I really need more of these molds.

OMG Thank you so much for this site. I have one of these molds and it is awesome to work w. It is so flimsy and putting it in the box works but tapping on counter doesn't. I was trying to figure out a way to reinforce it and this place is great and Cheap I love it. Thank you so much,

Suzielee

It just arrived today. First thing I did was put the ED silicone liner in it to make sure it fit. What do you think? The wood mold was custom made for me by Design Craft Industries www.designcraftindustries.com for less than $30 shipped. Took less than 2 weeks. I love it!
