ah-soy
I was bored last night and made some up for my daughters church youth group. They are so pretty and really fun to make. Got to wondering if any of you make and sell them? If so, how do they do for you?
Faerywren
I make them and have sold loads of them. Primarily to my daughter's friends. Lol
ah-soy
thanks for the reply. I figured tweens and teens would love them. Do you mind telling what flavors are their favorites? I literally have dozens of flavors ha!
Candybee
Haven't tried making lava lip gloss. Sounds interesting.I do make lip balm and my best sellers especially teens are raspberry and cherry. Next would be mango and pina colada. Faerywren
Watermelon is big, as is strawberry.
ah-soy
Thank you both. I have all of those flavors so will make a few of each as well as some others. It was much easier to find teen testers when I was still teaching high school. Just don't want to come out of retirement just for the testers ha! lovetosoap
I made them for the first time to sell at a Nov show. I sold out of them-pre teens and teens mostly. I did them all in sugar cookie flavor from Oregon Trails. It is pre sweetened. A friend talked me into trying them.
ah-soy
Thanks, lovestosoap! I figured they would be a big hit with the teen set. I'm playing with my recipe a bit more to see if I can get them to taste better. I used castor oil with flavor, but the castor taste is still in there. Going to some sweetened with stevia. SatinDucky
This may be a silly question, but what is lava lip gloss? I mean, how is it different from any other lip gloss?
ah-soy
It looks like a lava lamp. You color glycerin and fill a roll on bottle about 1/3 full. Then you flavor and sweeten a viscous oil (like castor) or a mix of others...just so it's thick. Fill the rest of the bottle with the oil. They should stay separated. When you tip the bottle up and down the glycerin flows through the oil like the "lava" in the lamps.

I'm going to play around with different formulas this weekend. Do you use glycerin for the lava too?
Faerywren
Yep, gotta have glycerin!
ah-soy
Ha! I was trying to figure out how you did lava without it:)

Dolphinbear
What type of container do you use for the lava lip gloss? Any suggestions on suppliers? Thanks
lauramw71
The roll on bottles is good for the lava gloss. Natures Garden has a recipe for them on their website. I got my roll on bottles from Elements, and also Lotioncrafter.
Kitn
I am going to give this a try..
Dolphinbear
I did see the recipe on Natures Garden website and they have the roller ball bottles..however read their comments **Clearance! Once these bottle sets are gone, we will no longer be restocking them. Sold in units of 10. 6 ml roller ball bottle with black lid. Includes clear bottle, roller ball, and black cap. Great for roll-on lip gloss. Attention: Some essential oils & fragrance oils may cause the plastic of these bottles to crack. When making roll-on perfumes, you will need to dilute the fragrance oil or essential oil in a carrier oil. Using too much fragrance oil or essential oil in these bottles will affect the integrity of the bottle. Testing on your behalf is required. Flavoring oils do not appear to affect the integrity of the bottle. Sales are final. **
lauramw71
Yeah, after reading the reviews on NG's roller bottles I wouldn't really recommend getting them from there.. I've seen some leaking issues in the comments too... I get the glass ones...
