april
Hello Im just getting into making my own candles & have decided to start with a basic mold candle. My question is do I need a certain wax for making candles out of molds? I will be using one of the those plastic molds that they sell on ebay. Casey
You'll need a wax meant for pillars. It has a higher melt point.HTH
Glowlite
Igi 1343 is a good wax to start with. Or if you don't want to add your own additives you can buy a pillar wax. Welcome to the board
Trish
Peaks also offers a starter kit that should have everything you need to get started! It's worth the investment!!http://www.peakcandle.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PCMS&Product_Code=KIT-Pillar&Category_Code=KIT
Scented
You just need a pillar wax. Agreed, 1343 would be a good one to start with. There are also one-pour pillar waxes and other varieties. I find the 1343 to be quite flexible.
april
Thank you for your help, I already have another question When changing the color on the pillar wax what type of dye would youuse, liquid or is there some other way?
linwvr
you can use candle making liquid dye or dye chips...both sold by Peaks. There should be a link from the main page to their website.
strider
Hi April, I'm a newbie too and I have found that IGI pillar blend 4625 makes really nice candles. You don't have to add anything but scent and color. I wish you luck!

april
Though it is a good idea to add a UV Inhibitor with colors Hi, what does UV Inhibitor do for candles? Has any1 bought wax from hobby lobby? I ordered some supplies from here http://www.suppliesforcandles.com/index.html Has any1 else tried them also where do you buy your supplies from? sharyl55
UV Unhibitor helps maintain the color of your candle. Otherwise direct sunlight will fade it pretty fast.
SatinDucky
Alot of people have used craft store wax at some point. Some like it, some dont'. Either way, it costs an arm and leg, but will do in a pinch. There are alot of good suppliers, one key is finding one close to you to keep shipping costs on wax down. This board is sponsored by Peaks and has great stuff and the most excellent service. Their FO's are the best quality available, IMO. You might want to browse through the archives of the old board. It has a wealth of valuable info. You can also find the link in the drop down box on the bottom left of this site, Access the Archives http://www.candletech.com/cgi-local/yabb/YaBB.cgiOh yeah, Welcome to the board
