crafty in SC
I just recently started making votives and I was wondering if there is a easy way to remove the wick pin without messing up the bottom?
hawaiiansun
turn it over and press the pin on a cardboard box or something flat and the candle should slide right out
candleessence
The wick pin -after the votive is unmolded should slide right out. If it doesn't, try putting it in the fridge for a couple of minutes.
topofmurrayhill
Whack the pin sharply against a very hard surface. Other methods will work for various waxes under various circumstances. Whacking works perfectly ever time.
gerrie
I agree with top, I have a piece of iron on my work bench about 3"x4" that I give the tip of the pin a whack on, that will push it out enough to grab and then I can pull it out the rest of the way. crafty in SC
Thanks, everyone for your suggestions. I'm just wondering if the wacking wouldn't damage something? Hope this is not a dumb question. :embarasse
Margaritamama
I'm just wondering if the wacking wouldn't damage something? Sure it could! But that would depend on what you do the wacking on! I would not do it on your walls, or your countertops, or anything that you wouldn't want damaged. I use a metal sheet, and it has tiny pock marks from where I have wacked...... SatinDucky
Personnaly I would advise against putting it in the fridge to assist removal. In my experience, while it does help remove the votive from the mold, the chilled wax(making it contract) will clamp onto the wick pin even tighter. Maybe soy is different, I use paraffin. Whacking does work, as well as trimming the excess wax from the bottom/sides of the pin base.
moonrose64
yup whacking can do some damage. Just ask my 3 pins that are bent. I kinda got out of hand with this wax I tried. I don't like it, it sticks to pin to much. Good way to take out your frustrations tho.

I don't have to do it with OK6228 wax, but I do with most other waxes (the mottling waxes and 4794 especially).DanaE
faerydust
yup whacking works like a charm for me to!!!!!!
Scented
Cussing works, but only as a last resort. Actually I have stuck a few in the fridge for 5 mins. or so. Thing is if you forget about them or your beloved furry friend brings a rat into the kitchen to show you, or your child screams and hollars or the power goes out and you're in pitch black ... just let the votives come back to room temperature and then push the pin out. TerriWV
Whack the pin sharply against a very hard surface. Other methods will work for various waxes under various circumstances. Whacking works perfectly ever time.Ditto (not real hard though) Some pop out easier than others
Sharon in KY
Paraffin comes out clean when wacked but soy sticks and will break a chunk off the bottom. I had to take my nail or knife and run around the bottom of the pin and then wack your wick pin....
Melly
A little spray of pam on the wick pins also helps them slide out easier, I spray them then wack them gently on a padded surface. No breakage here any more.
Terayne
Your best chance would just be to put it in the freezer for a bit...they come out every time!!!
