Need bug spray help PLEASE!!!

Hi there...sorry it's been a while. Three little ones and work have kept me jumping!

I need to ask for a little bit of help. I did a quick search but most posts were last year or older so I thought I would re-ask (in case there are new products).

I desperately need to come up with a bug repellant spray for one of my sons. We are going on vacation 4th of July and will be staying at a lake camp. He is allergic to mosquito bites...poor thing gets bit and gets golf-ball size hard lumps for days. I don't do b&b so I am totally unfamiliar with spray bases, and I have never made citronella so I have never tested any of those oils.

Can anyone give me an idea how to make an easy, effective, and safe (for a two year old) spray that doesn't smell too nasty? I would also consider a lotion/cream/moisturizer as well.

Thanks so much for ANY help!

Jenn:)

Thanks ladies! I checked it out...I will definitely get some. I have NEVER done B&B so can I ask where you prefer to get your bases? I see alot of people like WSP. I'm near Candles and Supplies and I know they carry some bases, although I don't know if those are good or not.

Thanks!

I was in the store today and see that Burt's Bees has an herbal insect repellant spray. Maybe after looking at the ingredients you could whip your own version (or buy theirs--it was $7.99 at Lowes).

Ingredients: glycine soja (soybean) oil, ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil, cymbopogon schoenanthus (lemongrass) oil, thuja occidentalis (cedar) leaf oil, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, cymbopogon nardus (citronella) oil, eugenia caryophyllus (clove) flower oil, geranium maculatum (geranium) oil, tocopherol

Aw if hubby would watch the babes for a week, I would so be there!:grin2:

Thanks everyone...I am going to try OT's bug-off with C&S bases. Hope for the 2 year old that it works!! :)

I posted this in the classy's too, but I was wondering if anyone might be willing to sell me some of OT's Bug Off. I don't need alot, and there is a minimum order there plus shipping to me (PA) is over $10.

Really can't afford to spend over $25 on this project. Please???

Best thing I've found living in the south...believe this or not is a combo of Listerine and Skin so Soft (Avon). I've also rubbed a Bounce sheet on my grandsons with good results. The listerine I've used alone but who wants to smell like that stuff....I add the Skin so Soft Oil just for the smell but it helps repel those annoying no-see-ems. I use this on the grandsons and all my animals with great results.
