Jeana
I've been seeing candle instruction labels lately that say to trim between 1/8 - 1/4" before lighting. Before I thought most were sticking with saying to trim to 1/4" on their labels, that seemed to be "the rule". So I'm wondering how many candle makers are giving different trimming instructions now. It seems like most of us try to make our candles work according to the 1/4" rule, instead of just changing our burning instructions to meet the needs of our candles. Just curious of other people's thoughts about this.
pcbrook
I would still stick with the 1/4" rule. 1/8" seems to short to me! IMO Although I still trim my candles with a wick trimmer and I get a little too short sometimes.
Stella1952
I trim my wicks to 1/8" - 1/4". I dunno what's been done with paraffin in the past, but that's the length that I have found works best with the wicks (CDN) and palm and soy-based waxes I use. Can't speak for any others... ChrisR
My candles work best trimmed to 1/8". That's what they are trimmed to when I sell them and that's what my customers are told.
Jeana
I didn't realize so many people were going with the 1/8" trim. Do you guys have some scents that you instruct to do at 1/4" and others 1/8?
Stella1952
Do you guys have some scents that you instruct to do at 1/4" and others 1/8?IMHO, it isn't dependent upon the FO as much as the type of wax and wick used. What kind of wax are you using? That has a direct bearing on how closely the wick should be trimmed!
