Wick'n'Wax
I found a recipe on a thread on here, and I'm having trouble finding one of the ingredients, corn meal.I asked and was pointed in the direction of a thicker corn flour.I'm in the UK, so I think somethings maybe lost in translation.I've been to a couple of supermarkets and whilst they've heard of cornmeal, no one sells it.Is there anything I can use instead of white cornmeal? The recipe is as follows:Gardeners Soap 1 lb M&P goatsmilk base 1 - 2 Tablespoons white cornmeal 1 1/2 Tablespoons fine pumice 1/2 - 1 Tablespoon bentonite clay 1 Tablespoon of shea or mango butter (for moisturizing) 2 - 3 teaspoons of a citrus essential oil (orange, lemon, etc.) or one of each. Orange cuts the grime. Melt base, Stir to allow it to cool a bit, Add scent, Stir in cornmeal, pumice and clay continually until it gets to the point where it will stay suspended in the soap. Pour into molds. thanks xx
Kaylors Kreations
Cornmeal is basically a rough ground corn, the kind of thing used to keep pizzas from sticking to the peel and in hard taco shells and one of the main ingredients in a hush puppy. Here in the states its usually right along side the flour n such, but you might have to look in a shop that maybe specializes in Hispanic foods.:undecidedGood luck finding some.---- Libby
Vio
You can't even find Italian pollenta meal?
Carrie
You may have an easier time finding yellow cornmeal. There is really no difference except the color.
Vio
You know what? Maybe find an italian restaurant that makes pollenta, and ask if you can buy a little raw meal. It will be yellow but it's the same grittiness.
Louise
If you are unable to find it, don't stress, the pumace you add in will still do the trick. You could also substitute poppy seeds for the cornmeal.
Wick'n'Wax
ooh ooh, an italian restaurant, excellent idea.I did ask in tesco today, if they had pollenta instead of the cornmeal, and whilst it was on 'the system', it wasn't in store. Poor woman from customer services, spent a good 20 mins trawling round the shop with me lol.I have poppy seeds,, blimey, I have the things needed! very rare thing lol.will give it a try but out of goatmilk base for couple days till order arrives. I have cucumber and avocado, might try that, its soothingthanks for all your help xxps I'm wondering how close to a mechanics soap this is, seems the same sort of ingredients
Louise
With the orange EO in it, along with the other ingredients, it will do fine for a mechanic's bar. Take a bar and find the nearest garage and let them try it out, then you can say "Mechanic tested"
Wick'n'Wax
what I could do with is a husband that delivers to about 20 garages per day ooh wait a minute, he does I don't actually know any gardeners at the moment to test on, so maybe the mechanics

cottoncandy
Guess I am kinda late reading this post. If you are still having trouble locating the cornmeal, look at this site on eBay. I buy some stuff from her and always get good quality, quick shipping and very friendly service. She sells in small amounts so you can try stuff before you buy a large quantity.eBay Seller: patriciameeks: Home Arts Crafts, Natural Homeopathic Remedies items on eBay.comHope this helps a little.Cottoncandy
elfcat
I've never seen white cornmeal. I use yellow cornmeal in mine and it works wonderfully. I also like that you can see the cornmeal in the finished soap.
