Brat
A silly question for y'all. I'm interested in making hurricane shells, and I have the hurricane mold and the high MP wax. The instructions I read said that I need Micro 170 or 180. What exactly is this, and where do I find it? Thanks for any help!!

The instructions I read said that I need Micro 170 or 180. What exactly is this, and where do I find it? Thanks for any help!!It's microcrystalline wax, which is a special variety of paraffin. You can get some from http://www.candlewic.com. You don't absolutely need it but it's a good thing to add for hurricanes to decrease the brittleness of the high MP wax. Use 1% or so. Brat
YIKES that stuff's expensive!! Is there something else I can use, and how much does it matter if the shell is brittle?
Henryk
You are looking at the wrong pricing codes - for each item, click the "order now" link - you'll see a 1 pound block is three dollars. They do have a 25.00 dollar minimum order. You can also get similar additives here: http://candles.genwax.com/candle_commodity_groups/___0___candlemaking_additives.htmI think the paraflint (clear cyrstals or translucent crystals) was a bit better for me in maintaining transparency. If you want to PM me your snailmail address I can pop a bit of each in the mail for you - you don't need much to do a couple hurricanes to test. Alohagirl
I buy microwax 180 cubes from Genwax. The cubes are 1 oz each so they're easier to use, and you can buy in small quantities.
Brat
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it! And yup, was looking at the wrong price!
Donita
You looked at the case price.....look further on Candlewic and you will see that you can buy it per pound. It is what I love for canes. 180....1/2 oz per pound to my 5055 mp wax. It makes it stronger, flexible and gets the bubbles out.....been using it for years since the owner of Candlewic told me to use it.
