judyvega
Here's an OLD thread on it (scroll down a little to see where it starts discussing it) - It was one of the first things I made almost three years ago and it still smells fresh in the bag! http://www.candletech.com/cgi-local/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=business;action=display;num=1108738151
beau's mama
I just use Borax (the 20 mule type) & BS. Add FO til I'm happy & mix. Once it's completely dry, I pop it in the blender to break up any lumps. Then into my home-made shakers (PB jars w/ holes drilled in the top:D ). Super easy & the scent lasts a nice while. ladysj
I use the borax/baking soda mixture as well. I find that just plain baking soda seems harder to vacuum up. My daughter loves it and so do I just make sure you don't get it to wet like I did my first time making it lol It took forever to dry. Dolphin146
Thanks for all the helpful info. I am going to try BS and Borax and my FO. I found some spice shaker bottles in the 8oz and 16oz sizes. I ordered some samples to see If the holes are big enough to sprinkle it out of the bottle. greensoaper
Borax is an inhalation hazard. I would advise against using it in an airborne product like a carpet freshener.Sodium Bicarbonate alone should be fine.
MochaMama
Whatever you do, don't use cornstarch. It sticks in some rugs and is nearly impossible to vacuum up. Now that I've wised up, I use only baking soda and a touch of scent.
bells4shells
Oy-- I made some freshener with just the B.S. and FO and shook it every day for a week before I put them in some shakers. I just tried it out now and it wasn't coming out of the shaker. How long do you girls recommend drying the mixture for? I left the lid on, so I guess it couldn't really dry... Would appreciate any tips.
luvtobowl
All I use is Baking Soda and FO. It smells great and people love it. I just hate making it. I wish there were a better way than just using a mixer. I feel like I'm covered in it when I get done. I smell good though :smiley2:
bells4shells
what about a whisk? I personally use a spoon and then cover and shake it for a few days to get the lumps out. At least with a whisk you have more control over the stirring.

scentsational
After reading this yesterday, I had to try it. I am also curious as to how long it takes to dry though. I cant wait to sprinkle it on my carpet. I thought a bigger container would help the drying process, so it could be more spread out. Even thought of putting it in a cardboard box to soak up some of the wetness, but decided not to, because I figured it would also soak up the scent. Any takers on how long it takes? crafty0317
It takes a very small amount of FO pp to make the carpet fresh. I mix until the mixture is dry and then package. How much FO are you adding?
scentsational
I put a whole 1oz bottle in mine. I'm guessing that's too much huh? lol:laugh2: But, boy does it smell good.
bells4shells
1oz in how much BS? haha I use about 2TB per lb and shake it up and let it dry for about a week. Mine was still a bit on the wet side, so I may even go to just 1TB per lb.
luvtobowl
I haven't made any in a while, but I'm thinking it was 1 TB per pound. Nice and strong and I didn't have any problems with it being too wet.
scentsational
Okay, I tried it again with only 2 tablespoons of FO and added a little corn starch. The corn starch seemed to help it dry instantly and it still smells great. Not to mention the amount of FO that I'm saving, lol. Thanks for all the tips.:smiley2:
