cowgirl
I am trying to get a vibrant orange and I am having such a terrible time. Any suggestions out there ? The straight orange isn't very orange if you ask me, looks more like a peach color (this could be my problem??). I am up for any suggestions. dpowell
I use the orange / gold liquid dye from BCN at 3 drops / lb. and it comes out bright orange. It is possible to use smaller amounts and get a light orange, but I like the super bright orange.
Mimmi
add a drop of red dye to your orange wax. adjust if needed.
sudsnwicks
cowgirl, what kind of colorant did you use? I use the dye chips, the one called orange, and I get a real orange at 1 chip per pound of wax. But if I use less then it will turn out peach. cowgirl
I am using the dyes from natures garden and to be honest I really don't like them. I plan on ordering dyes from somewhere else but I don't really want to purchase JUST dyes because of shipping so I am trying to make the best of what I have right now. I do have some rediglow chips but it leaves specs of dye in the bottom of my container. I melt the dyes when I melt wax but it doesn't matter how much I stir they are still there.I never thought of adding red, I will have to try that. I am playing around with halloween colors. I gave up on black nothing seems to work with that either. To get a true black it clogs the wick. I do order from BCN sometimes I will have to try their dyes next order. Thanks everyone, I guess I will go play with color for awhile.
sudsnwicks
If you are purchasing just dyes one place to consider is candlechem.com because they charge a flat rate shipping of $5 (excluding heavy items like wax and glassware). I ordered just dyes from them before and was happy with them.
Cetacea
I use Candles and Supplies dye blocks and have no problems with their orange. If yours is still peachy, try adding a touch of yellow, red and a tiny bit of brown. If you are looking for a florescent or close use more yellow. To get a true black you need liquid dye.HTH
Stella1952
Color wheels really help with things like this. Red + Yellow = Orange, so for vibrant, try increasing the yellow. For pumpkin orange, use a little more red. For rust, a touch of blue or brown (orange + blue = brown). For a bright red orange, increase the red. Sharon in KY
KY Candle Supply has so great strong color chips and the yellow is a bright orange. I also have all the liquid colors from http://www.rusticescentuals.com/ they are very nice colors and last a long time. They come with the glass dropper top. ForHisGlory
Ok I finally got my orange after playing with the suggestions. Thanks everyone you saved me once again. I really should buy another color wheel, I have one here somewhere but I keep thinking I will find it. Thanks for the links too !!I'm glad you found the correct color you wanted.I just wanted to say that I use all of NG's blocks and liquid dye and have never had a problem finding or blending the color that I need. Did you change your mind about them after you tweaked your color?
